Scripting Q&A / Timelapse run at certain days/time?
October 06, 2016, 12:55:04 PM
Hello!

Just wondering if it is possible to have the intervelometer module only activate between certain hours, on certain days of the week?

I was looking at this thread: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=10886.0  but it says the script listed wouldn't run.

Any ideas of where I should look?

Cheers!

General Chat / Biggest buffer on a sub £500 DSLR
April 10, 2014, 01:48:03 PM
Hey guys,

I'm going to purchase a camera as a backup to my main 6D. I'm going to stick to Canon for obvious reasons, but I'm just deciding what model to go with...

Essentially I'm just after decent image quality, and a really high buffer/write speed. I'd love to be able to take 2-3 frames per second, and shoot indefinitely. Ideally with full RAWs, but m-raw would also work.

I checked the raw video chart at http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=6215.0 and it lists the buffer sizes.. but honestly I'm not sure what the numbers mean?

Anyway current options are a 7D, 50D, 5Dc, or I might even be able to stretch to a 5D2 (but I'd prefer not to).

Does anyone have an idea if any of those cameras are capable of a constant 2-3fps? :)

Cheers

General Help Q&A / Re: TONS of noise with RAW video

Unfortunately I really need the slow shutter speeds! When you say 'other FPS optimizations', what do you mean exactly?

I might be able to get away using s-raw (so the buffer won't fill). I'll probably have to buy a faster memory card though.

Not sure, is there any way to check after? I had only taken about 20 pics prior, so it shouldn't have been too warm

General Help Q&A / TONS of noise with RAW video
March 25, 2014, 11:36:32 PM
Hey guys,

I've been trying to use RAW video on my 6D. I dropped it down to 2.5fps, and used a shutter of 1/3.3  The ISO was set to 1250, which should be fine..

But I've got horrific noise! See: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jm30doom7kgncjk/M000142.jpg

Any ideas what's happening?

General Help Q&A / Using Overlay with Spirit Level
February 26, 2014, 04:00:02 PM
Hey guys,

I'm trying to use the magic lantern overlay in Live view mode, whilst having the Canon spirit level showing. However I can only have one or the other.. is there any way I could have both showing at the same time?

I'm trying to use it for hyperlapsing, and both features at once would make the job 100x easier.

I'm using a 6D btw!

Cheers

I've been running some tests with ETTR and I'm really impressed with the results!

https://www.dropbox.com/s/lzqz11w7989tu7j/ETTR%20Test.mp4
Started at 1/15, iso 100, f9
Ended at 5 seconds, iso 400, f9.

That's a VERY challenging sequence to shoot, yet it came out beautifully. The stutter is caused by the long intervals between pics.

I've got a few questions that I hope one of the dev's can answer :)

Is it possible for the camera to deflicker the sequence after it has finished? This would cut down on the length of interval required (10 seconds is too long for most shots).

What's the minimum required time for ETTR to work? Could we shoot sequences with a very fast interval (1-4 seconds) without it breaking? I've yet to test it fully.

Just been trying out the deflicker, but can't seem to get it to work.

It runs through and processes the files, however bridge doesn't 'find' them in the normal way (where it shows a little icon on the top right of thumbnail preview). I opened a few images and they DID however have adjustments applied... Weird.

I left the deflicker at default settings and ran it through. It didn't work at all, so I'm not sure what's going on. Has anyone else experienced this issue before?

HOWEVER, that 'ramp all ACR settings' is GENIUS. It's so easy to use, it's going to help me out a lot! Another question, will it affect the exposure adjustments, or just ramp the other settings?

Feature Requests / Re: +1/-1 EV exposure ramping
October 08, 2013, 02:41:19 PM
From what I understand in your description, your module just ramps values based on the time/frames that you set?

The issue I have with that is that it's mainly guesswork trying to calculate times and so on. If you start it to ramp aperture too early, the whole sequence could be ruined.

I've not tried auto ETTR yet, but will give it a go soon

Feature Requests / +1/-1 EV exposure ramping
October 08, 2013, 12:36:21 PM
Hey,

I'm wondering if it's possible to implement a new mode for timelapse shooting. As you know, sunsets/sunrises have extreme exposure changes. The easiest way to shoot them right now, is to shoot in manual mode, and wait for the meter to be 1 stop under (or over) exposed. When that happens you adjust the exposure to bring it back to 0EV.

It's a pain in the arse to manually do, so it would be great if we could automate the function. I know there is a mode in ML that gradually ramps the exposure, but it's not as useful as this.

You would be able to input what values you want to ramp to change the exposure, so could set any combination of shutter speed, aperture, ISO. Also being able to set limits on each would be great, so don't use a shutter speed longer/shorter than XX.

Any ideas if this is possible, or how difficult it would be to implement? I have absolutely zero coding knowledge unfortunately..

Raw Video / "is not possible in current video mode"
October 08, 2013, 12:26:36 PM
Hey,

I'm trying to capture extremely low frame rates in raw VIDEO, for playback as a timelapse video. So I'm working in the region of 2-5FPS.

I get the error "is not possible in current video mode" when trying to record large frame sizes. I zoomed in on LV, but was still restricted to 958 pixels vertically.

As far as I know, RAW video records straight from the LV window. So is this why large frames are unsupported, because there is a max resolution on the LV display?

General Help Q&A / Re: Changing timer delay?
May 22, 2013, 01:40:17 PM
Oh yeah, doh! I don't use the intervelometer

The signal comes to trigger my camera, at the same time the motor starts moving (it's only a basic circuit). So I need the camera to delay before it takes a picture

I'm using the intervelometer to shoot timelapse ;)

Basically I made a DIY motorised dolly. As the motor starts moving, it sends a signal to the camera to take the photo.

Obviously I don't want the picture taking as the motor moves. So I use the 2 second delay to start later. However 2 seconds can be too much, would be great to change it down to 1 second.

Is there any other way? :)

General Help Q&A / Changing timer delay?
May 22, 2013, 11:54:23 AM
Hey!

Just wondering if it's possible to change the delay of the self-timer? Currently it has the two options, 2 and 10 seconds.

I just read a thread that seemed to suggest it's possible, however I can't find anything in the menus.

Any help appreciated! :)

Cheers
