Forum and Website / Re: RAW/PostProcessing

hi,
Imho , I think that there are no standard H.264 (no-RAW) users left  here on ML forum :D
ML it's all about RAW Video lately that's the cherry on top.

Noob question:

the difference between used height dimensions (upscaled 720px - 625px original =95 px) ,is black area - right ? The image doesen't look stretched .thanks

ML team, thanks again for your work
...

hello there,
I am just curious , it was 1280x720 RAW 24fps or this is an upscaled resolution ?

LE: thanks, great commercial by the way.

How about the maximum size allowed for 6D SD cards ,128GB could be a good solution for recording raw ?
Anyone tried in decent conditions 128GB (Transcend , Komputerbay ,etc) ?
thanks,

Thanks 1% ,
Meanwhile ,I think I've found the reason of jumbled frames appearance.
In the user manual we have :
QuoteYou can take a still photo at any time by pressing the shutter button completely, even during movie shooting.
...
•If you take a still photo during movie shooting, the movie will record a still photo for about 1 sec. The captured still photo will be recorded to the card, and when the Live View image is displayed, the movie shooting will resume automatically. One movie file and the still photo file will be recorded to the card.

it's all clear now,
cheers

Hello there,

I use a Sandisk Extreme pro SDHC UHS-I card up to 95mb/s (I think one of the fastest at this moment on the market ) but if I try to take a still shot during video recording , the video will freeze on playback no matter what format of movie / photo I choose .
Is that normal ?
Thanks,

General Chat / Re: 6D - Best ISO in Video mode
May 06, 2013, 12:04:18 AM
thanks guys for your recommendations,
true but as 1% said, those ISO tests are made on 60D (DIGIC 4) vs 6D (DIGIC 5+),there should be a difference .
Anyway, in conclusion : ISO 100-200 should be fine together with the above mentioned values wide open, 1/50 shutter speed, 24 fps.
Now I have to find out how to deal with the overexposure situations using fader ND or CPL will be enough (?!).

I understand but ,these things are linked :D
The "film look" can be achieved if you have these few parameters around 24fps, (1/48) 1/50 shutter speed ,of course we will want DOF so the aperture will have to be f1.4-2.8.

Having said that ,the ISO must be the lowest possible but not so sure how to approach the problem in order to avoid overexposure in daytime. Using low ISO's keeping the rest of the settings at the values mentioned above and/or using fader ND filters .

Now I just opened another box with monkeys because I have a 16-35 mm (82mm filter size) and using a ND filter sometimes could be pretty tricky ,vignette or uneven polarization effect may occur as we already probably know.

General Chat / 6D - Best ISO in Video mode
May 05, 2013, 07:50:52 PM
Hello there,
As a rule of thumb, the shutter speed should be the double number of frames per second as far as I know.
In order to avoid overexposure in daytime maintaining 24fps ,what kind of ISO values do you use on your 6D at wide open aperture f1.2 - f2.8, 1/50 shutter speed for example ?

Do you use any ND or CPL (or both) filters on you lenses at low ISO ,wide open aperture, 24fps, 1/50 shutter speed ?
Thank you,

General Chat / CPL maximum thickness on 16-35 USM II
April 11, 2013, 07:47:08 PM
Hi there,

I am about to buy a 16-35mm USM II Lens for the 6D body and I wanted to know what is the maximum recommended CPL filter thickness in order to avoid the vignetting .7mm can be to thick ?
Thanks,

oh, I got it. thanks 1%
So the ML will do what we can do with an Intervalometer for example right ?
In this case, I will reformulate the question  : If I use an intervalometer , the result will be the same (dark noise/lines on the final video) ? I am counting the worst case when this option of ML will be impossible to be fixed on 6D .

With timer A/B control FPS override can be tuned to get rid of the lines. Unfortunately the side effect of timerB is dark noise.. The specs might be dust on the sensor? I'm not sure... Purple cast in the corners is part of the dark noise.

The M seems to suffer the vertical line thing too, here you can see it starts at about 0:04 and gets progressively worse through the timelapse. I shot this for about 9 hours.

Did you guys experienced the same situation without ML in a regular timelapse shot through 6D ? if not, sorry if sounds stupid ( dooh! ) but why do we need ML on timelapse ,to improove what ? ISO is pretty good at high rates, ... what else ?
thanks

VAF can be an option for the moment but unfortunately ,the annoying part will come when you take photos. You have to remove the filter in order to get the best quality , the filter is made for movie mode only.

Remove VAF filters for still photography.  VAF-series filters are specifically designed for HD video -and should be removed to shoot high-quality still photography at your DSLR's full, native sensor resolution.

MMy guess is that Canon designed this 20mp sensor not only to be lower than the "pro" cameras 5d2/5d3 but also to do worse for video, they want to sell their 5d3 after all ... there's no other explanation for the bad moirse performance :-\

So the short version: If you shoot video for a living, get the 5d3.

But one level below, if we compare 6D vs. 5DMK2 the results are pretty much the same and I saw a few videos made with 5DMK2 looking amazing .Do you agree ?

I just watched the 6D demo video with/without VAF filter. The result looks great but the price is not to low.I was wondering is there any good alternative to remove moire by using software for example ?

sorry guys , :D
the truth is ... the producer is not so important ,the movie is great :D
Jamer u're the one :D

Regarding these type of cinema lenses ,assuming that the aperture and fucus settings will be all made by hand (with or without attached confirmation focus chip on the body lens) , could be a good alternative in shooting photos too ?
Thank you,

General Chat / Re: 5D MKII vs. 6D

1% thank you for you fast and complete answer.
The main reason of thinking about an upgrade it was the full frame sensor.

After that , I agree with you and I know that in some cases like T2i and 7D for example ,we have the same sensor ...so the image quality will be pretty the same. All we got if we buy a 7D it's just some new buttons and additional functions (more or less essentials).

I'm not looking for additional options (loke GPS, WI-FI etc) I just want to find an upgrate solution to a full-frame with decent photo/video abilities and I have (at least in canon range) only a few options 5D MK2, 5D MK3 (price too high) and the new 6D.Actually as I've put in the post title 5D MK2 vs. 6D :)

It's not a rush ,I will try to make a video shoot mode comparation between cameras with APS-C sensor like T2i, T3i (DIGIC 4) ,T4i (Digic 5) even D7 (Dual Digic4) and the 6D (Digic 5+) FF sensor in order to see how big is the difference.

BMCC look so great, I just saw some movie samples, but as far as I understand , you can't use it in photo mode (hope i'm not wrong).
Best wishes,

:D, got it - but no offence , I thought that someone can give me some guide lines ...5D MKII vs. 6D in video shooting mode on most .I've read some oppinions pro/cons about these models but without arguments.

General Chat / 5D MKII vs. 6D
January 14, 2013, 07:29:47 PM
Dear all,
I am a new member but in the same time an old Canon owner.I am thinking of an upgrade and these days I've read and watched some reviews, pro and cons, etc about Canon products and specially the battle between 5D Mk2 vs.6D.

In your oppinions which one is better ? In shooting photos mode 6D appeals more to me , seems to work better but how about in Video mode ?
Not so sure about the freezing motion defect and overall in Video 6D vs. 5D MKII.

Poor ISO of the MKII in comparation with 6D can be a real problem or MKII have enough ISO value in order to handle low light conditions in movies/pictures ?
thank you,
