Okay, I see. Then another suggestion. There are two types of Canon camcorders - Vixia (US/Japan) and Legria (Europe).
The difference between them is tricky: Legria supports 50i and 25p while Vixia supports 60i, 30p and 24p (!). The hardware in the camcorders is identical, so it's only the firmware that's different. Moreover, the firmware update on Canon website is also unified - it's the same file for both Legria and Vixia. The question is: is it possible to trick Legria camera (that doesn't have 24p mode) to think it's Vixia, and thus update the firmware of Legria camera to get 24p?

I couldn't find anything like that discussed here before, thus the new thread.
So, the other day I stumbled upon this page with a tool that decrypts firmware on many Canon camcorders. I was wondering - is it possible to make Magic Lantern run on Canon Vixia/Legria like the M line (M41/52/506/56)? They share the same sensor as some more expensive camcorders (for example, G10) but they lack many vital features like custom white balance (using Kelvin values) and full manual mode (only Aperture/Shutter priority).
Since hacks already exist for Canon point&shoots and DSLRs, it would've been great if ML could also be used on their camcorders.

I have an idea. Does the aperture get corrected when recording raw video? There, we disable the auto exposure from Canon code in order to squeeze a little speed for recording. If that works, the workaround would be pretty easy to implement.

Just checked and it works in raw! The aperture does NOT get corrected.
And if it's easy enough to implement, it would've have been awesome if this feature got released for 600D!

Nevertheless, it's better to have your image get a little darker than flickering like crazy.
And since this feature has not yet been implemented, would you please move it back to feature requests section?
I assume this is what it is for - requests of new features.
For now, the only workaround I have for this issue is to unscrew the lens every time which is quite annoying.

Canon cameras have an interesting bug. Whenever you zoom in and out with variable aperture lenses in movie mode, the exposure changes a little bit, even when you set everything to manual and set the aperture to its smallest value.
Example:
When using 18-55/3.5-5.6 lens on my 600d, I set everything to manual and set aperture to 5.6. But whenever I zoom in and out in movie mode, there's some auto adjustment going on that makes the image a little brighter/darker.
Curiously, if you unscrew the lens from the mount a bit, so that it loses electronic connection with the body, this problem goes away, so this certainly has sth to do with Canon firmware.
It would have been great, if this could be fixed via Magic Lantern, for example by fooling the camera into thinking that you are using a manual chipped lens, whenever you enter Movie Mode.
Hope this gets implemented, 'cause it'd finally make the variable aperture lenses usable for video.

Main Builds / Nightly build test screenshot warning
November 01, 2014, 08:21:32 PM
Hey everyone again.
Why the line beta.warn=1 in magic.cfg always returns to 1, even if changed to 0 manually?
I thought this could be a way of disabling annoying randomly appearing beta warning, but it's not.

I'm guessing you mean I should compile the source code myself. Well, too bad, 'cause I'm not bright enough for figuring that out.
'Thanks' for the advice, though.

Hey everyone. I've got one question.
Since it seems like we're not gonna see another stable build, I'm using nightlies for my 600D. They are great, but there's one thing bothering me: there's this 'developer screenshot' popping up everytime I start the camera and enter ML menu. Any idea how to remove this?

General Chat / Re: What camera are you running ML on?

Used to shoot with 550D for half a year, then sold it and bought 60D a month ago.
Been using ML on both. Still have the old version (december one) running, since the new one's lost a button remap option and has some bugs with its overlay in LiveView.
