Hello !
Graded with ACR, reason why it flickers here and there !
All of the CD visuals were taken from some of the frames of the video.
Thanks ML !

Oops, thank you ;)

Hello Tony,

Once again, thank you. It seems like you moved to something else, or maybe not !
Still looking for a quicker way to convert files, but until then, your converter still does a great job;)

Hi !

Well, I don't know if it's the best workflow available, but it works for me.
Some explanations can be found here, let me know if you want further details.

Right now, imho, the main problem concerning Mlv converter is the time it takes to get the dng sequences.
I get around 200 Go files a day, and it takes ages to process all those files.
Hope Tony will do something about it when he'll get the time...

Hi,

Well, I think it's pretty straight forward.
MLV in, DNG out + proxies if you'd like too !

Tony, I'm shooting a documentary for french television in Kuujjuaq (Nunavik) and I'm using a 5Dm3 as a Bcam alongside a C300.
I'm using your converter again and again ;)
Thank you once again from the north.

I never had twice the same nightly builds nor the same version of MLV converter thanks to Tony and the other brains !
But my guess is that v1.6 should work fine with the audio extractions.
Thank you Jayzed :)

Hope you'll like it !

French 80s pop icon Desireless with Antoine Aureche (Operation of the Sun) new single.
Shot on a 5D Mark iii + Magic Lantern.
Couldn't have been possible without MLV Converter (thanks Tony !)
I shot .mlv, converted them in dng sequences, imported them in After Effects without any Adobe Camera Raw modifications, created proxies, Imported the compositions in Premiere. Imported the .wav file associated with the dng sequences (got 1 frame difference between the .wav created and the video file)
Edited in Premiere, trimed my compositions in AE as my edit in Premiere to reduce the calculations time, re-imported the dngs in AE and graded with ACR, turned off the proxies and then render in Premiere.
I'd say this workflow increases up to 30% your overall working time. Can be pretty tedious, but once you get the routine optimized, it's doable. And well, you work with raw files !
Shot reasonably for 3 days, got 300go Dngs, and deleted the .mlv files once converted to dngs.
For some clips, the frame rates skipped randomely from 25 fps to 29.776. To avoid that, choose FPS override in ML.
To reduce the amount of data, I shot in crop mode.

ML settings :
Global Draw : On all modes
Cropmarks : On
Raw video (MLV) : 1920x818 (2.35:1), Global draw : Allow

Thank you Tony, glad you liked it ;)
The grading could be a lot better if it was done by a pro, but since I do everything myself, I have to compromise on some stuff !
Thank you again...

Since somebody asked for it, here is a link to v1.6 :

Hope you won't mind Tony. In case you do, just tell me and I will delete it !
I've been using MLC converter to do this clip for french 80s pop icon Desireless (Voyage Voyage amongst others)

Hi Jason,
Yes, I shot in crop mode to reduce the amount of data.
Thanks a lot for the trick, I wasn't aware of this solution !

Hello beautiful people !
I have been shooting 4 days in a row ( in a raw ^^)  with those nightly builds : 06_02_2014 * 07_02_2014 * 08_02_2014
Everything went smooth, except one thing. For no apparent reasons, the frame rates skipped randomely from 25 fps to 29.776. I'd say one clip went wrong every 8 "good" 25 fps clips. I only noticed that when I converted my MLV to DNG sequences (thanks to Tony and his great mlv converter : http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=10198.0 )

I'm on a 5D Mark III
Global Draw : On all modes
Cropmarks : On
Raw video (MLV) : 1920x818 (2.35:1), Global draw : Allow

Is it a known bug ?
Thank you a lot !

Hope you'll have more holydays for a v1.9 Tony ;)

I did some tests with proxies, and they're all very different from my dng sequences (luminosity & colour temperature).
Which settings would you recommand to get a proxy that is the closest to the original dng sequences ?
Thank you !

Hi Tony, I have a question, maybe you could help me out !
When I convert mlv using the "lossless" option, the file size is around 70% of the size I get using "Normal".
70% of the original size is already a great gain. Is there a downside using this method over the "normal" one ?
Thanks again !

Don't know if it's relevent, but even though I shoot 25 fps, when I open my mlvs, MLraw Converter from time to time indicates a 29.776 fps number for some random clips.

Hi,
Just batch converted 75 Go of mlv files in around 3 hours on a HP pavilion laptop.
It works like a charm !

When I create proxies in AE, it exports them in .avi, that the reason why I was wondering if it would be better to do that as well within your application...

But now that I think about it, maybe it would me wiser to create proxies with AE after adjusting the dng sequences with Adobe Camera Raw beforehand.
Then import all that in Premiere, and do the edition there...
#17
Thanks again for this 1.6 version Tony !
I haven't figured out how to optimize my editing workflow for now. But as I understand it, I will have to deal with proxies in AE.
Have you planned to implement batch process .avi proxies in future versions ?
Or in other words : what is the best proxies format for AE ?
I have searched but it seems you can't import DNG sequence within Premiere, and that is a real pain...

Hi Tony,
Thank you for the 1.5 version !
What a time saver :D
Batched a few conversions tonight and it worked fine. Guess I learnt the "mlv_dump.exe -o mlv.raw -r m00-0000.mlv" command for nothing after all.
The progress bar only shows the progress in the number of conversions. Meaning that if you have 2 mlv files to convert, the progress bar will remain at zero until it finishes the first file, then jump to 50% and so on.
Not at all a deal breaker in my opinion, it could stay that way.

Thank you so much for this Tony !
I'll be starting shooting a new project on thursday, planned to shoot it in raw, and I was waiting for such a time saving tool ;)
I'll be doing some tests with the 1.4 version.
Good luck for future versions .

Hello Simone1971,
No offense, but when you say "and the result is that i've tons of videos without audio..." it sounds a lot like reproach.
You don't go shooting without testing your gear or firmware beforehand. That's what I would do ;)
Cheers

Hi there !

First of all thank you for your great work.. I know eyes are all on raw video right now, but I was wondering if these features would be interesting for photograph users :

- The possibility to assign a button to change between different picture ratio overlay (1x1 , 4x5 , 7x11 , 16x9 etc etc...)
- For any focal, aperture, and nearest object in focus given, ML would calculate the hyperfocal distance.

Thank you again !

mnteddy : it seems you like your LCD very bright  :D

Thank you !!!
Great release once again. Smooth transitions is already a favorite of mine !

Would it be possible to record video to card 1, and let say images on card 2 ?
Be able to change volume level recording on left channel and right channel separately ?
Keep the crop marks during playback ?

Watch out Canon, ML is here !!!!!
