Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon EOS M
December 27, 2017, 09:52:15 PM
Hello, just posting in case it may interest somebody here.

After buying a second hand M, I quickly realized that the lack of shutter remote really annoyed me. Unfortunately ML+ mic trigger didn't cut it for me.

I then made this : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2524414

The 3D printed part fits on the EOS M and permits to send IR trigger signal directly to the IR sensor of the M.
To emit the IR I use a Wemos D1 Mini ESP8266 board and a 940nm IR led.

Yes sorry, I didn't try to capture, maybe it didn't work, maybe it did. But without the CF card recognised, my only urge was a full reset  ;D

On a 1.1.1 40D with full battery :

After a few seconds of "loading firmware update"

- 108D1.fir : White on yellow "Update file error. Please check the memory card and reload the battery and try again."
- 108D2.fir : White on yellow "Update file error. Please check the memory card and reload the battery and try again."

Both needed a battery remove, and the 40D still works fine after that.

40d00111-ML.2013-08-30-007bb9a0574d.fir : screen turns black, DSLR works apart from the fact that it doesn't recognize the CF carf anymore. Needed a battery remove to restore proper function.

Official Canon  main 7D adapater on the left, El Cheapo noname on the right

Canon :
- Shows as a full battery
- no message
- loads .fir fines

El Cheapo
- Shows an empty battery (but the camera works fine)
- Shows "unrecognized battery" messages
- cannot be used to load the .fir

The connector difference is obvious, but only two wire go to the adapter. Either there's a chip, or the connector is the key (but then I'm sure the noname brand would have figured it out).

I usually use the el-cheapo one because I connect it to a battery adapter I made myself (to shoot all night on one 12V car battery)
