General Help Q&A / Re: High Speed Video Recording

My hope was, that ML could record at much higher frame rates (high speed recording) for a smooth slow motion.

Now THAT would be very useful!!!!!! 120fps. Even for just a short period of time. Anyone know what the challenge would be, from a tec. point of view?

If I took the original cable, and cut off the phono part - and replaced it with a stereo mini jack female. Would that do the trick?

Or is the only way, to use the original cable, untouched, and then ad on what ever will work  ???

Thanks it advance...

Hi,

I can't seen to monitor left and right audio channel - at the same time, in v.2.3. It´s either one or the other, not both - with the mini jack, half way in, or out - depending on what channel  :(

Changing headsets and/or cables don't solve the problem. I had a Canon tec. guy check the 5D - just in case og a loose connector etc. But all was fine...

Any one? Or did I miss a detail or two in the software setup?

General Help Q&A / Re: Headphone use on 5D Mark II

I just tried the canon cables with rca to 3.5mm adapter and headphones work.  BUT, when I plug in an external mic at the same time as headphones, the headphones will stop working.  They will work again once the mic is removed.  Can anyone monitor with headphones while a mic is plugged in?

Same here! I also did experience that Im only able to monitor either left or right channel. Not both at the same time. Depending on how far in the headphone cable is plugged. Tried lots of different headsets and reinstalling Magic Lantern.

No luck...  :(

General Help Q&A / Re: Format card - all is gone...
October 17, 2012, 02:56:19 PM
I format the card in the camera - and when only shooting video - no problem. But when stills is involved. Big problems...

I know I can re-install (... as I has done several times) - but thats not always an option, possible or convenient, when shooting on location. That´s also "...not rocket science"...  :o

I was looking for a possible solution - nothing else...

General Help Q&A / Format card - all is gone...
October 09, 2012, 02:22:18 PM
Sometimes, I have to shoot video with my 5D. And the same day/job - stills as well. Lately, after doing that and backed up my card - and formatted it. Magic Lantern is gone. As in erased ...  :-\

It only happens when stills is involved etc.

Now what..   :(

General Help Q&A / AGC - stuck....

AGC is in on mode. The indicator in menu is missing, so I cant turn it off? On the other card, no problem.

What to do?

Quote from: 1% on July 12, 2012, 11:17:39 PMBut I wonder 1.0x vs 1.8x what kind of difference it would make. You lose audio after 1.2/1.3x thus far.. wonder why nobody has tweaked the audio part of the encoder.

Hmmm ... interesting fact. Maybe its worth a try after all  ???

A green screen test with moving subjects or hair would be an interesting comparison.

;)

With a bitrate at 60-70, vs. 25-28 - its guarantied to look better. And make your croma key nice and easy, not only to look at, but also to work with. Shooting green screen demands three things (... amongst a few more), to be succesfull:

1. The right kind of lighting.
2. High bitrate as possible.
3. The right kind of key software.

But a test is always interesting, if not - just see why a high bitrate is good stuff  :)

It is always an aim to get as high bitrate as possible/with the hardware limit. No matter if you shoot on dslr, XDcam, P2 etc.

HDV is about 28/30 - the lowest of them all, in the HD world. And its not impressive.

The higher the bitrate, the better color, more "sharpness" (... in the good way, and not resolution). Its gives you much better possibilities for color grading, fixing stuff - lowlight/highligt faults etc.

You might not be able to see the difference right away, looking at the raw material  - but when being creative, fixing stuff and colorgrading - you will feel it, and see it very clearly. And it will open up a world of possibilities thats not technical possible with low bitrates.

So keep it high - in the edit its too late to fix things, if the bitrate was too low while shooting.

General Help Q&A / Might be a stupid question...
July 12, 2012, 12:40:22 PM
... but google has not been able to help me, so here we go!

Im new to Magic Lantern - very new. It just got my hands on a brand new 5D Mark II, with firmware ver. 2.1.2. Can I install Magic Lantern, without any problems on my new 5D with that firmware version?

I go here;

http://www.magiclantern.fm/download

But the 5D Mark II is not listed  :o - and then again its is, else where...

Super user advise will be appreciated ...
