Really encouraging, thanks to @ kfprod and @ a1ex for the efforts being made

I think the question slipped through the cracks earlier, what firmware are you using 1.1.3 or 1.2.3?
#3
thanks, I tried a 32Gb Lexar 1066x card with 1.1.3 fw and couldn't manage to get 30p

Can you share what firmware your running and did you use RAW_REC or MLV_REC? any settings that would enable me to test this out would be extremely appreciated.  :D
#4
can I ask what size CF you used?
#5
I will have a look through old builds and try to find the exact build that worked with raw_rec. maybe that way we can help isolate the code that changed and maybe one of the programmers can take a look.

If anyone keeps old builds I would suggest you do the same.

This really would be a great feature, you even get proxies recorded with sound, that should mean pluraleyes can easily and quickly sync a high quality external audio recording from a Zoom or the like...

I also have an Atomos device, a ninja blade and the HDMI trigger works great with the camera on H264, but mlv_rec not so much.

it used to work on Raw_rec, but i haven't tried it on recent builds.

Would love to have this feature!

The gain dial on the H6 with the NTG2 is on 4/5 on the Zoom Shotgun its on 9. The noise floor on the NTG2 is much lower and the recording is a lot cleaner you don't have to boost it any where as much.

what mice are you comparing the NTG2 to? it is a directional mic and can only be compared to other shotgun mics.

Sure its not as sensitive as an NTG3, but hey if you want to spend $600 I think thats a whole new ball game.

Hello I need to take audio in short movies and I'm actually using my Zoom H6. the problem is that his X/Y microphones are too much sensible and takes so much sound from the  surroundings environment.
I need a microphones that takes ony the voice of the actors also in ambience where it's too loud. is the rode ntg2 the right microphone?

I wish a michropnone that give a nice volume level when recording. and give not white noise. which is the best for my zoom h6? my budget is around 200 euros.

thanks a lot. :)

I use a rode NTG2 on a shock mount with a Zoom H6 and its excellent, perfect for picking up dialogue. I also have the Zoom H6 shotgun mic that clips on the front of the H6. Its not a patch on the red NTG2, the noise floor is much higher on the zoom. You will get a much cleaner and professional sound with the Rode.

Just converted my RAW footage via the ACR -> Cinelog -> DxHD 444 process and it looks like it's a killer combo :)
The only thing that is a bit annoying is the time for processing and exporting that is way slower than the Resolve.

Come back to post some graded results to you guys as soon as I've finished the editing and my current job ;)

Id love to see some actual video clips of the results of this process, so thanks in advance!

@ hans_punk & @ rigs

I will have a look at the specific builds and try a few out, I'm not sure exactly which ones they were, if i remember correctly I did have one build working. Then I had "threads failed" error message and yesterdays build didn't work at all. I'll do some digging to try and isolate what builds worked and post the results this weekend, Ill also try going back to 1.1.3 and report the findings there.

A1ex/Mods

Not sure if this should go here or in "Feature Requests"?

I did some testing this morning and I have confirmed that the HDMI trigger that starts recording on an external recorder, is not working.

I tried RAW_REC and MLV_REC with various different settings sound on/off etc resolution changes with no effect.

Im guessing that the ML code doesn't have the instruction in it to send the signal down HDMI to start/stop recoding.

From Atomos

QuoteSynced REC Trigger and Timecode
The Blade provides frame accurate timecode and start stop triggers over HDMI from many cameras, including Canon, Sony, Panasonic, Nikon, JVC, RED and ARRI. It also features LANC and rolling timecode trigger for those older cameras that don't have start stop flag protocols on board. The Blade additionally has tally lights to indicate start time.

This function works without ML running. It's a really good function as it provides instant frame accurate proxies in ProRes (with sound if hooked up correctly) to edit with and also frame accurate play back for anyone on set or even talent wanting to see how the last shot looked.

I realize that this may not be high priority, but if anyone has a moment this is a real kick ass feature, this massively speeds up post production and elevates functionality to that of a dedicated video camera with real time playback.

How do you get full hd output through the hdmi while recording RAW or MLV?
I only get 720p? When I change monitor resolution with the info button to get full hd output It won't record RAW but h264 again as i am not in the ML mode.

The image on the left is the Prores HQ 1920 x 1080 (.MOV) file, on the right is the first dng in the raw sequence. both full HD.

What input settings do you have on the Ninja?

I'll double check this for you later today, I literally plugged it in and it worked off the bat I just had to hook up the audio.

In last weeks build the HDMI trigger was working too, so that when you pressed record on the ninja blade, it triggered the 5D MKiii to start recording Raw. This was a sweet feature I hope we can get this back. I have a OKII USB controller that triggers the camera to start recording, really helpful if the camera is on your shoulder. This has also stopped functioning, this was a real time saver just one button triggered the camera to record RAWand the Ninja to record Rrores with sound.

Have anyone achieved continious or near 1080p 29.976?
I am now on komputerbay 1050 32gb. write speed on pc up to 125
but after 5 sec on mlv and 12 sec on rawmod without any features it stops.

Older builds of MLV with "card spanning on" have achieved Full HD at 30p, however this is very early stages with 1.2.3 Firmware and MLV is also pretty new and still in the development stages.

At present the buffers are not writing at optimal performance, the Dev's are currently working on image issues and errors with the new firmware.

OK ...but no raw or prores yet?

Camera is recording raw, the Ninja Blade is recording Prores. I will double check the resolution I just use this as a monitor with focus assist etc and a playback device.

Ill shoot a little today and transfer it to the Mac and check it out to confirm

With ML RAW and audio, is the HDMI out clean for clients and crew watching and/or recording editable HDMI with a ninja for backup?

Ninja with 5D Mkiii

Framing is perfect.

The only thing that doesn't work is the auto start recording via the HDMI trigger, this works without ML. It would be an awesome feature as we would have Proxies with sound already created by the ninja, with the exact start and stop point.

Mods - Should I post this as a feature request?

love the colors! looks really inviting

I think 30P would have looked smoother the 24p is strobing on the fast pans, its something I'm hoping we eventually get with card spanning on the 5D Mkiii.

Can you share your workflow? did you grade in Resolve or just use a LUT?

Really nice to see though, I'm working on a cooking show in RAW and the salivating colors you got going on here make me want to eat!

Any pic? And this works with RAC_REC.MO with a 5D 2?

here are some pics, i also pulled the trigger on an Atomos Ninja Blade, that way I get a source with sound synced too.

This one shows the studio set up, with the Ninja Blade on the back

Use the -20 db PAD :D

Thought I would share my trials with the Atomos Ninja Blade.

The Blade is a great high resolution monitor in its own right with a nice recording function built into boot. This makes showing clients what you have just shot easy. It also allows for the creation of proxy files with sound if you hook up a mic or send the headphone out from the Canon (Mini Jack). This makes post a great deal easier as when you have your Raw files and external sound its a pain in the ..... to sync the files manually. Having the proxy files with sound synced up already allows you to use PluralEyes to match your raw footage and external sound. There, much faster!

I also use an Okii MC1 That I Picked up cheap on Eebay, this works as a usb trigger to start and stop recording, It works great with the 5D mkiii without magic lantern running but won't start the Blade when ML is running, the 5D starts recording raw but the signal doesn't seem to get to the Blade to tell it to start

If any of the Devs are reading this do you know why the HDMI signal to start the Blade doesn't function when ML is running?

Here are 2 other pics of the shoulder a rig and also the OKii MC1

P.S. These rig are just for testing to see if I can get things working how i want, so yes Im aware I have a Battery Grip and and Anton Bauer Dionic 90 hooked up. I don't have all the cables needed to run everything off the Dionic 90 at the moment, when I do though hopefully it will go all day!

Thanks for your reply Mike.  So the HDMI output quality is the same as if you never had ML installed?

Exactly

Mike, is the HDMI output with ML installed better than the HDMI output stock?  In other words, by using the external recorder along with ML are you recording RAW-esque level of detail or is it still the normal "mush" we are used to?  Thanks

Its 8 bit 422, so nowhere near raw but it holds up a little better in post.

The reason I liked it was that you effectively get a proxy with sound (you have to connect a mini jack, from the camera or ZoomH6 in my case, into the blade to get this to work) canon protocol has HDMI without sound.  This makes post audio syncing easy with plural eyes plus you can quickly show a client a clip that looks pretty good.

Has anyone tired recording the HDMI out on a recorder (atomos ninja,) etc.?

I'm trying out a ninja blade, this weekend. It works great with the 5d Mkiii as long as the canon codecs are frame rates are matched. The HDMI start stop is very cool it really simplifies the whole process. This function doesn't seem to work when ML is running, the camera records to CF but the Blade doesn't start. I also use an Okii MC1 to trigger the start stain over USB, this doesn't seem to interfere with the functioning of ML. Having a video file with synced audio is also a big boon!

I'm at work now but I'll post some pics of the rig later.

Noix222 if there arent any changes in the module there Will be no changes in speed. Check the changelog or set to see if there are changes in mlv_rec before comparing nightlies.

Fair point, I do have  a question though is this reduction in write speed in 1x mode likely to be sorted out in the future? or will it stay as such?
