General Help Q&A / Re: Focus Distance

Oh dear! So you will need a table of lens and the distance of the principal plane from the sensor. But then you knew that already  :)

There is usually a marking on the camera for that. I see them on my AE1, 5D3 and 7D2. It is a circle with a horizontal line through the middle.

Did a bit of testing. Earlier Google translate could not distinguish between server (computer) and waiter. This one seems to.

Thanks for sharing.

Cool! Thanks. So I will start scouting for ND filters now.

Yes, that marine layer of clouds in LA is something!

I have never used 113 ver of ML. I use 123. When I updated from 121 to 123, I uninstalled the 121 version and then installed the 123 version. From your description I am not sure if you uninstalled the 113 version prior to removing the card.

If you need to AF at f/8 while shooting stills, then stay at 1.2.3 else go back to 1.1.3. I am at 1.2.3 for the AF at f/8.

The Canna plant on the terrace flowered and I used the Focus Stacking feature in Magic Lantern that I have on my 5D3 and stacked 29 images to get this one. I used LR for the edit and PS to stack (blend).

Is there a test for the 7D2 that I can do?

@dmilligan is right. That is when the two links disappear. And reappear.

I see the links just fine.

What browser are you using?

It is working for me. Yesterday though I needed to login although I had set my login forever. Besides that I saw nothing different.

General Chat / Re: How would you shoot...?
January 18, 2016, 04:41:41 PM
I don't do weddings etc. But my bird shots are manual with auto ISO. That way I can control the depth of field and handle motion blur and yet not need to fiddle for each shot.

Rofl! About your last sentence. :)

General Help Q&A / Re: Sup guys 5 newbie questions :)
December 12, 2015, 05:36:40 AM
A1. Not that I have experienced.
A2. Not mine. Some have reported that the camera stopped working but after resetting the camera things seemed to work.
A3. From the Canon menu. That is how I do it.
A4. I have not done that so you will have to wait for someone else to answer that. Btw, I have 2 cards. A 4 gb one for ML and the other for pics so no confusion on which one to format and I don't format it in a card reader...
A5. Go to the download page and check dates...

Don't be scared to dive in. Don't just dip your left toe...

Have fun using ML. I do.

General Help Q&A / Re: First Install 128mb card

If you mean only to load ML, that should work if there is a another card for storing pictures. Sorry I misunderstood.

:)

Believe it or not, I have a 32 MB card (from a loooooong time back) and I cant even take a single picture on it on my 5D3...

Well, I shoot RAW, and that may be the problem ;)

Sorry, 128 MB option as you can get more snaps before you are forced to download or delete them... ;)

4 GB SD cards are under $5.00. If you are looking to shoot RAW, this may be much better than the 128 GB option.

Impressive the amount of detail recovered. However I think you need to fix white balance and/or tint. I say this as the rocks look bluish as do some of the leaves in the middle.

Duplicate Questions / Re: ML, dual-iso and auto iso
June 20, 2015, 02:42:12 AM
I have used Dual ISO with auto ISO by setting the recovery ISO to -4EV. Naturally if the base ISO goes beyond 800 the picture is not going to look exceptional but I think a picture is better than no picture. Play around with it. It is fun. You can shoot into the light without a flash!
