Currently have the latest working nightly build working on my 5D MKIII running on 1.2.3 as I needed a clean HDMI signal for a job.

Now looking to downgrade back to 1.1.3 as that seems to be the most stable option with more regular updates.

I searched for the best practices to downgrade and the majority of posts were about getting down from 1.3.3 so they could install, Not going from 1.2.3 to 1.1.3.

I'm wondering what the best steps and order to take to ensure I don't brick or damage my camera. Should I remove Magic Lantern from the camera, then downgrade the firmware, then re install Magic Lantern? Or can I downgrade the firmware immediately and then overwrite the 1.2.3 firmware on the SD card with one of the latest 1.1.3 nightly builds?

Raw Video Postprocessing / Best format to send to VFX?
February 02, 2015, 11:46:00 AM
I've recently completed a short using Magic Lantern Raw, there's a couple of VFX shots and I'm just trying to work out what's the best format to send to the guy who'll be doing the work.

I want to do quite a heavy grade after the fact and the plan for grading the film will be do to take the raw files into resolve, use cinelog-c to and then apply a out then tweak from there.

Should I see the original image sequence to the VFX guys, should I export the sequence as a Prores444 file or similar having applied cinelog-c but nothing else? I'm just concerned whats the best way to grade the final composited image as some of the elements added will not give me the flexibility to grade that the image as much if it were all raw...

Any help would be appreciated.

Share Your Videos / Dalston - London. 5D3 Raw Test.
December 17, 2013, 09:05:09 PM

So having upgraded from a Mk2 to a Mk3 and investing in some high speed CF cards I thought I'd go and test out the Raw and the workflow that goes along with it.

Using only my 2007 Macbook Pro, the 90Gb or so of rushes took me a couple hours to adjust one by one in after effects and another 20 hours to render to prores! I think if I'm going to stick at it I'll need to upgrade my machine to something that can run resolve.

Tried to see how far I could push the grade, lifting the shadows and pulling down the highlights, I got some flicker in a couple of shots but now having exported for vimeo, it's not as noticeable.

After I've picked up a fully loaded 27" iMac in January I'll re-do this project and see how much easier it is.

General Help Q&A / Stuck Menu Problem
November 26, 2013, 04:53:58 PM
Somehow, I've managed to remove the main menu option in Magic Lantern. Hitting the trash button just switches between the live view and this screen, the main text based interface has now gone. I'm just left with this one:

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/rustmonster/11069005984/" title="Untitled by rustmonster, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2830/11069005984_ea01737fca.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="Untitled"></a>

I'm sure it's something really easy to fix but for the life of me I just can't work it out! Any tips would be appreciated.

Was as much a test of shooting really stripped down, handheld with only a monopod for support, as it was a test of the raw video quality. Shot for half an hour until my two 16gb cards were full. As a result some shots work, some don't and a few files were corrupted but overall really pleased with the raw footage.

Thought I'd finally get round to testing the new Raw capabilities, and also show off my rather photogenic rooftop.

MKII shot at 1728x736 with the H.264 cropped and zoomed slightly to match the frame size.

Shot at f22, ISO 100

Installed Magic Lantern 2.3, seemed to install fine but I did have Cinesyle installed and did not restore camera to default settings.

So I uninstalled Magic Lantern, restored camera to default settings and then re installed Magic Lantern 2.3 but when I press the picture style button it still doesn't bring up the Magic Lantern Menu...

Any solutions or have I ruined Magic Lantern for myself and my camera?
