General Help Q&A / Dual ISO .exe file
January 10, 2018, 09:14:39 PM
Sorry to ask what may seem like a dumb question, but I've had to reload Lightroom 5.7 & can't remember which file kicks off the Export to Dual ISO feature.
It's the one that processes a Dual ISO shot, deletes the old one & saves the new shot with a Dual ISO suffix.
8bit 240dpi or 16bit & 300dpi?  Colour space to use?
Many thanks

General Help Q&A / Auto ETTR not very ETTR (at times)
October 08, 2016, 09:42:26 PM
I've been using ML for a while now & wouldn't be without it.  It's a great add on for my 6D.
I use Dual ISO when I need it but use Auto ETTR all the time.

However, I do have a problem with Auto ETTR that I could use some help with:
Quite often I can take a shot where the histogram is right up to the right and not blowing highlights but Auto Snap will take another shot, usually reducing the exposure time resulting in an image where the histogram is quite a way from the right.  On the final shot, histogram on camera & in Lightroom agree it's not optimally exposed (ETTR).
It happens regularly against a bright sky but often happens in less challenging exposures too.  Very often I ignore the final Auto Snap shot in favour of the one before it when processing in LR.
In brief, I take a perfect ETTR exposure & Auto ETTR decides it's too bright & takes another giving a non ETTR image.

I only take still shots, don't use LV & have Mids at 6 & Shadows at 2.  Highlight ignore is at .5% (but I have experimented with increasing this to no avail).
Please don't suggest I switch off Auto Snap & check every exposure as Auto Snap is the method I prefer to use to save time.

Any advice gratefully received.

I've just discovered ML for my 6D & am extremely impressed with the AutoETTR & Dual ISO features for my stills photography.  Congratulations to the creators on a fantastic enhancement product.
It's like quick & easy HDR but with a much smaller file size & no ghosting on action shots.

I have a few questions I'd like some help with if possible.  I have searched to see if they have been asked before, but couldn't find anything.

1/  Dual ISO is apparently only activated when required.  However, even in very bright conditions, it always seems to be on.  Not a huge problem, but can anyone tell me if the auto activation feature actually works?

2/  When importing into Lightroom, my import routine adds CA, lens profile & some clarity adjustments as a default.  Does it matter if I run cr2hdr routine before or after these adjustments?  Running after seems fine, but am I missing anything?  After cr2hdr, there's usually very little post processing required; just levels really.

3/  After cr2hdr, my shooting data (shutter, aperture, ISO, focal length, lens etc) all gets reset to f1, 1sec, 0EV.  I'd really like to retain the shooting data so I can learn what works best.  Any way to achieve this?  This is my most important query.

4/  I always use ISO100/1600 if conditions allow.  I've set mids at S/N 6 & shadows at S/N 2.  Highlight ignore is .5% & allow green clipping.  What do other 6D owners recommend with AutoETTR & Dual ISO?  I've seen a tutorial forum posting, but would appreciate some other views.  I mostly shoot daytime landscapes in wide angle.

5/  After shooting with Snap AutoISO, I've noticed that the EV value jumps up 1 stop.  Shouldn't it remain at the previous level in case I want to take another shot in similar lighting?

Thanks in advance for your advice & recommendations.   :)
