Shoot Preparation / Hyper lapse questions
April 25, 2019, 01:00:20 AM
I have a Zhiyun crane plus. Was wondering about method for hyper lapse because there are options.

Shoot move your feet and fire again.

Use 1 FPS raw video - which looks great btw.

Any ideas or recs?

Raw Video / Has anyone made a cheat sheet yet?
July 30, 2017, 08:09:30 PM
Wondering if anyone has made a cheat sheet for all the resolutions and requirements to achieve your different fps, length of clips, and final resolution with stretch.

I feel like I have to look it up every single time I have a project and half the time I can't find the answer.

Thanks.

Shoot Preparation / Timelapse Questions
November 08, 2016, 11:34:25 PM
I have a lot of experience shooting timelapses with ML now for a few years. However, I'm about to embark on a month long timelapse. I think the cameras (3) will run 24 hours a day with plugin adapters.

What I want to know is will AutoETTR be the best method? I have done some timelapses where the AutoETTR looks like its failing and not adjusting the exposure properly. Particularly from daytime to Sunset. Is it something to just keep the faith in and let it be or will it need to be massaged?

Share Your Videos / Italy - 3x Crop Test
November 03, 2016, 01:57:23 PM
Went to Italy this past spring and wanted to use it as a test for the 3x crop. Most of this video is using the 3x crop. All hand held aside from resting camera on objects at times.

So I shot an all day time lapse last week and I noticed that different sections of the time lapse (probably coincided with battery changes), the frame size is slightly different.

Anyone run into this problem before?

My friend told me to go outside as he thought he saw a rocket while driving (hes about 40 miles South of me). I ran outside and I see this thing moving at a very fast rate of speed. I run back in and grab my camera. Not realizing dual-iso is on. Btw the angle this was traveling at was not typical compared to the way I see planes traveling normally in the area. Zoomed in it does look like an airplane.

I know this is probably a hot pixel issue, but there was something flying at a very fast speed and then these two red lights near the object is kind of funny.

What do you think (zoomed in 8:1)?

I'm having all sorts of problems with MLV RAW video + Dual ISO. I'd say I'm an advanced Magic Lantern user. Been using it for a long time, have used many of its features in both video and photo.

Camera: 5dmk3, the MLV files play fine in MLVRawViewer, the files are definitely not corrupted. Recorded at a very easy on the camera resolution.

I have a mac and a pc and have tried post processing MLV RAW Dual ISO Video on the following:

On Mac (I've tried multiple MLV movies):
1. Danne's script > Import to premiere (says files are damaged)
2. MLV Rawviewer > DNG > Lightroom > export dual iso converter > Import to premiere (says files are damaged)
3. MLV Mystic > DNG / Dual Iso > Import to premiere (says files are corrupted)
4. All of the above > Open all files in camera raw then synchronize settings > Import to premiere (says files are damaged)

On PC (Multiple MLV movies):
1. MLV Rawviewer > DNG > Lightroom > export dual iso converter > Import to premiere (says files are damaged)
2. MLV Mystic > DNG / Dual Iso > Import to premiere (says files are corrupted)
3. All of the above > Open all files in camera raw then synchronize settings > Import to premiere (says files are damaged)

On MAC I can open the DNG's with Camera RAW/PS. On PC I get the message, Photoshop can't open this file.

Now the only thing I can think of, is that MLV and Dual ISO doesn't work and the proper way to do it is recording in RAW?

This is a CrossFit video we did for a local box whose tagline is Find Your Best Self. Everything but the quick cuts was filmed in RAW MLV on 5D3.

Share Your Videos / Music Video, Models, 90% RAW
August 19, 2014, 11:18:26 PM

90% of this was filmed in RAW, MLV on Canon 5D ML 1.2.3.

-There were a few scenes filmed on a Nikon D800 where she's not looking at the camera in the shower.
-The off the roof jump was a 7D 1080 shot because my shot on the 5D at 60fps was all pink frames.

Just the truck scenes were shot in RAW. The rest was h264 as you can obviously tell.

I appreciate all comments good or bad.

The first portion of this video I shot last week includes RAW footage. Workflow was RAWanizer > Lightroom > GO ProCineform > Premiere.

You will know the RAW scenes, but...
(bridge, flowers, carousel, nyc scene, boat scene, helicopter 10x zoom but propped on piling, cars moving 10x zoom handheld)

The carousel shot I think came out amazing with the details showing throughout thanks to the work done in Lightroom and the genius of Magic Lantern.

Had a chance to shoot one of those naturey RAW clips. This was the most raw footage I have shot up till now and really wanted to test the zoom crop feature which is simply amazing.

Very little grading done. Essentially brightened up the grill clip at the end.

I have a better workflow now. Its not faster, but the GingerHDR drop in method comes out a little soft like its already pre-graded.

Now I do, Rawanizer > Grade in Lightroom > GO Pro Cineform > Export

I'll post another video of some scenes I did using this method later.
