General Help Q&A / Change SDHC card permission so I can write the .fir and other files to the card

When I format my SDHC card in my EOS T3i, it puts a DCIM and a MISC folder on the card, and I can't write to the card.
How do I write the magic lantern files to the card on my macbook?
I could format it with my macbook, but that, of course, would not be formatting it in the camera, which is recommended.
