I tried to search the subject in FAQ and SEARCH but couldn't find any; hence this question.  Is it possible to make the ML features available without having to use LIVE VIEW?  That way most photography-friendly features could be used by photographers who normally shoot by using the View Finder.  This also helps save lot of battery power as the camera is not on live view!

If it is already answered elsewhere please send the link (And bear with me for  :-[the repetition!!)

Presently, HSS is possible only with certain External flashes attached.  I read somewhere that, at high shutter speeds, the II curtain moves almost along with the first curtain forming a small slit and the Flash fires a number strobes during the entire duration of the shutter to give a proper exposure.  Since 60d's built-in flash (and many other models too) is capable of firing strobes, will it be possible for ML to get HSS with the built-in flash? ;D

Feature Requests / ML Help Menu ZOOMing
January 24, 2013, 12:50:46 PM
Since ML has lots and lots of features, quite often one needs to press the INFO button for help (60d) to view the information on respective features.  The font size of the information is very small and many-a-times extremely difficult to read, particularly in the field.  Is there any possibility to view a zoomed version of the HELP menu by pressing the ZOOM button and move the page up & down and sideways by using the arrow buttons?

It will be a great HELP.

 :'(Today I went out shooting birds in TV mode.  To my surprise I noticed that the TV mode is behaving like `P' mode!  The set shutter speed changes (like P mode or Auto mode) to MAINTAIN correct exposure.  I removed the ML card, battery and reloaded them with no avail.  Then I set all ML features to OFF mode (including global draw).  Yet no use.  Is my 60d broke?... Or is there any way I can set right my TV mode to function normally?

FOR INFORMATION: My 60d is 2 years old and I have been shooting quite satisfactorily.  About a month ago I loaded ML and am trying out its various features.

After several readings I understand that;

(1) SILENT picture is the best option to experiment Time Lapse (because it saves shutter-wear)
(2) The quality is NOT as good as regular Time-Lapse (because its resolution is limited to that of Live View Screen)

I hope I am correct.

Now, I tried SILENT picture on my 60d and couldn't play back as there were no pictures !  After some more readings I realized that I should make some display settings and `Press SET + use Main dial' in PLAY mode to view Silent Pictures.  However, when I loaded them to my computer, I couldn't view them.

Please guide me how to view them on my computer?  Is there any possibility to combine those files into one Time Lapse movie?  Do I have to download any other ML software or other softwares?  Please send me the links if any of such software (latest) and instructions as to how to load them.

Thanks in advance

General Chat / SURPRISING !
January 09, 2013, 10:38:12 AM
 >:( On one of the Nikon forums there was a thread discussion on buying a canon camera OR a nikon camera.  Some favoured Canon and some others Nikon.  I contributed to the thread and stated that; `Canon cameras may benefit from Magic Lantern features where as ML is not available to Nikons'. Result: I am banned from logging in to that forum for ever !

I am surprised ! Please enlighten me if I have committed anything wrong or illegal so that I may not use the word Magic Lantern in any other similar sites/forums.

General Help Q&A / New SD card ML menu not opening
January 06, 2013, 01:23:36 PM
 ??? I bought a New 8 GB SanDisc Class 10 card and did the following;

(1) Formatted it (Low)
(2) From my Old Card, copied all Magic Lantern files and folders to my computer through card reader
(3) Loaded the New Card and copied all the ML files (copied from Old Card) to it from the computer.
(4) Then, loaded the New Card to my 60d

Alas ! My 60d is not reading ML files/Menu.  It is working on Canon Menu.  If I load my old card, then my 60d is responding to ML Menu.  I don't understand why?  I have checked, rechecked and confirmed that all those files which were in Old Card are pasted in the New Card.

Please guide me.

General Help Q&A / 60d - ISO setting of 819200
December 28, 2012, 12:19:38 PM
60d - ML Notes say that ISO can be pushed up to 819200.  Can anyone explain me how the actual setting is made in the ML menu?  I tried; but the ISO never goes beyond the limit set by Canon's expanded ISO. I see the following settings in ML Menu `Q', but don't know what values should be fed to each of these;

Equivalent ISO:
Canon Analog ISO:
Canon Digital ISO:
Display Gain:
Highlight Tone P:
ISO Selection:

Waiting, waiting ...and waiting! ;D

General Help Q&A / 60d - ML spot meter
December 27, 2012, 12:58:36 PM
Hi and New Year Greetings to all!

On my 60d the ML's spot meter was showing up all these days.  All of a sudden it has disappeared even when I have put it ON.   What could be the reason?  Is it possible that any other ML setting might have had an impact on my spot meter setting?

 ;D 60d ML function Stack Focus;  Was experimenting FOCUS STACKING, and while the camera was in the course of taking snaps, I switched it off ! (remembered some urgent work; thought if I switched off the 60d, the stack focus function will automatically close by itself).  I was wrong!  The camera locked up and there was the constant red-light.

I let go my urgent work and attended to my camera; removed the battery and after 30 seconds re-loaded the same and switched on: No use; the red-light was back on!   Again I switched off the camera and removed the battery: This time I removed the SD card too (4GB with ML).  After 30 seconds, I loaded both the battery and the SD card and switched on the camera.  No use.  The constant red-light laughed at me again!  By then, I was a bit upset.  I removed the battery and the card both once again.

I loaded a different SD card (2 GB, but without ML) and the battery.  Switched on the 60d. No luck !  Felt very bad and sat for 10 minutes.

Then thought of making yet another last try before consulting Canon service. Loaded the earlier card (4 GB with ML) to the computer and removed all the photos from canon folders.  Only the photos and no other data.  Then re-loaded the card (4 GB with ML) and the battery into the camera and switched it on.

Voila !!! It worked !  JUST WANTED TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION

(1) To use Canon Menu (after loading ML) The user guide says `press and hold SET button while start-up to shoot in CANON menu' (i.e. ML will not be loaded for the session).  On my friend's T2i it is working OK.  But, on my 60d it is not working.  Which button I should press and hold on 60d?

(2) To erase the photos in the card; I go to FORMAT in Canon Menu.  It reads the card and says `Format card, keep Magic Lantern (Q). All data will be lost!'.  Should I have to press `OK', OR `Q + OK' ?

I was told that in t2i, if you hold set button while switching on, it will load Canon Menu and not Magic Lantern.  Can we do it on 60d also?  How?

And one more thing; can I use the SD card (with ML) for general purpose on my Nikon (not for using ML features, of course)? 8)

Hi again!

ML 2.3 loaded successfully on my 60d.  By pressing the `trash' button got ML menu and settings were set.  I pressed `trash' again to go to the shooting mode; but I don't get the features viz; focus assists (zebra, histogram etc.).  The screen is looking as it was earlier (i.e. when ML was not loaded).

So, I have not been able to use the ML features while shooting as they do not show up in the shooting screen. Help me please, somebody......anybody!

I am sorry if I am posting this again (didn't know whether my last post went through or not since I got an error message!)

Loaded v2.3 to my 60d and was meddling with the settings to acquaint myself with the Menu.  In between I switched off and on several times.  Later when I changed the White Balance settings to 5500 from Auto, I could not get back to Auto; after 15000, it comes to 1500 - it does not go to AUTO at all!

Please help me how to get AUTO in White Balance.
