Hi,

I need your advises.
I have to shoot with my 2 cameras:
- Canon 600D/Rebel T3i with Magic Lantern
- iPhone 5 with Filmic Pro http://www.filmicpro.com/support/

I need to make these cameras matching as much as I can.

I understand that there will be a huge difference in depth field. I hope than using the iPhone for wide shots and the Canon for closer shots could be OK (do you think so?)... but I need that picture quality matches.

How could I?

Should I use a picture profile during shooting in both cameras that could match. Do you think so?
With Filmic Pro I could use Natural (Apple default), Dynamic, Flat and Log modes.
On Canon with ML, what could be fine?

Then I'll finalize with FinalCut Pro X editing and grading (I never made any grading until now with FCP).

What could be your advises for the process, picture settings,...?
Is there an almost fast & simple process to get it?

Thanks for your help

Hi,

sorry for this newbie question but I am afraid of doing bad settings, and I shoot tomorrow...

I use ML 2.3 with "600D Audio Test release": http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=2032.0

On Rode VideoMic Pro:
- High Pass Filter (HPF) ON
- +20dB ON

On Magic Lantern:
- Analog gain: +15db (and it's here that I modulate depending of the audio source to record)
- Mic boost: OFF
- Digital Gain: 0 for all
- Output volume: 0db

• Is it OK until now, are these settings the good ones?
::)

• Tomorrow I'll shoot indoor, so do I have to turn off all the "Wind Filter" settings? (DC Filter OFF ???/ High Pass Filter2 OFF / HPF2 Cutoff Hz : 80Hz)
Is that correct?

• If I shoot outdoor I should turn the "Wind Filter" settings ON (DC Filter ON / High Pass Filter2 / HPF2 Cutoff Hz : 400Hz), even if I don't have any deadcat yet?
(it's said that I could get infos p.77 of ML26121A.pdf, but I can't find this file on internet...)

Big thanks for your help and your patience!

General Help Q&A / Install: unzip autoexec.bin ?
December 17, 2012, 03:01:58 PM
Hi,

something unclear for me: do I have to unzip autoexec.bin during ML install process?
If I do that I get a autoexec.bin.cpgz file but I am unsure to have to do that step.

Please, could you tell me if that's needed?

Thanks

General Help Q&A / ML always active?
December 13, 2012, 07:29:23 PM
Sorry for this naive question but I doubt...
In photo mode (let's say Manual or Av for instance) is Magic Lantern always on?
I mean if I don't use LiveView and don't clic on garbage icon to set parameters with ML menu, is ML active?
???

Thanks

Hi,

sorry for this naive question but I need your advises for shooting handheld in a place where I'll not create the light.
I mean that I'll not be placed behind a tripod with my settings fixed for the planned scene with fixed enlightenment,
but I'll be in real life moving everywhere following and filming people that are themselves moving around...

So there will be movements!
And exposition will change... I need to let something automatic, no?

What would be your settings approach ?
Manual video mode with a global setting made (aperture, shutter speed) and keep WB, ISO in automatic mode to adjust automatically?

Thanks for your advises for best practice

Hi,

I'd like to use the hdmi external display on a Video-Projector during a performance.
So I need only the image, not with the Magic Lantern textual menus...
Is there a way to manage that?
???

Thanks for your help

Hi,

I see in ML userguide for Green color:
QuoteShutter speed: in movie mode, values that maintain a certain amount of filmic motion blur (180 degree shutter) are displayed in green.

- If I shoot with a tripod with Green color values, the filmic motion blur shouldn't appear or are we speaking of a blur caused by the moving filmed subject?
- With shutter speed indicated in Red I suppose it's too critical to shoot, in any condition? (I get Red values for a 1/30...)

Thanks for your help

Hi,

here is the red blinking horizontal line I see on the screen:
http://cjoint.com/data/0IBqEdHDzEp.htm

Is it normal or is there a problem?
???

I have a 600D and Magic Lantern 2.3 installed
I installed Eos Utility and upgraded it to 2.11.4 as the install CD version wasn't compatible with my Mac opération system (Lion 10.7.4)

Thanks for your help

Shoot Preparation / Newbie: Best settings for B&W?
September 26, 2012, 10:02:42 PM
Hi,

I am new to DSLR Video/Photography (just got a 600D) and starting using Magic Lantern too, so please forgive me for this naive question...

I am going to shoot next saturday movie + pictures that should be used in Black & White. But sometimes in color too.
So I am thinking of shooting in color Raw and do after the B&W process in Photoshop.

I am looking for the best quality for the shooting

I see in ML WiKi http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/Unified/UserGuide#waveform
QuoteTip: if you shoot RAW, use the UniWB method to get a good approximation of RAW RGB histogram. To setup UniWB, do a custom white balance on a completely overexposed image (100% white), set the picture style to Neutral 0,-4,-4,0 and disable Peripheral Illumination Correction.

Does it mean that I have to create a user preset from Canon menu like that?
http://cjoint.com/?0IAsU2e7iln
Am I right?

I didn't find any UniWB600D.cr2 file for my 600D here:
http://www.guillermoluijk.com/tutorial/uniwb/index_en.htm

So perhaps before playing with UniWB method, I should wait a little:
QuoteNew users who are still finding their way around the camera are advised to wait before trying to tackle UniWB.
http://www.malch.com/nikon/UniWB.html

Well, I am half way and about to renounce.
Just shoot with Picture style: Auto, make a real white (grey) balance before shooting, and record jpg+raw pictures...

What do yo think?
Thanks for your help
