General Chat / foggy lens
March 27, 2014, 11:21:15 PM
Hey guys!

Recently I have noticed a problem with my tamron 17-50Vc lens. On the wide end somewhere from 18 to 28mm it sometimes looks like it has something like fog inside. It becomes more visible when used in bright environments or against a window. Does anyone know if I can do anything about it?

General Chat / bitrate explanation?
January 02, 2014, 11:08:40 PM
Hey guys!
Can someone explain please what does bitrate really do in video? And what is the technical difference between, for example, a 40 mbit/s video and a 20 mbit/s video?

General Chat / 550d audio vs 600d
October 10, 2013, 11:37:16 PM
Hey!

A while ago I sold my 2,5 year old Canon 550d and got 600d instead. I cannot stop the feeling that 600d has more noise in the audio than 550d had.
Since I don't have my 550d anymore, I cannot test this, so maybe some of you guys know on which camera audio is better?
550d didn't have the analog mic boost feature, which the 600d has, so 600d could even be better than 550d, but I am still thinking otherwise.
What is your opinion?

It would be really good to see on the main LV screen what sound recording option is chosen (int, auto, ext, etc...). When I had my old 550d the audio port got broken a few times. It didn't detect whether I had put in an external mic sometimes, so if it was set to auto, it didn't switch to external when I connected a mic. Then I always set it to ext only, but on some of my sd cards it still was auto, so sometimes when I forgot to check it, I accidentaly recorded with int mic instead of the ext.
Even though now I have a new camera, I am still always checking it, and it is really annoying.
So yeah, it would be cool to see which sound input is being used without going in the menu.

General Chat / android editor export xml

What about HDR video by changing shutter speed not the iso?
This would be another option for HDR video to choose from. That way you could have less noise in the dark parts.
The different motion blur would create some problems I guess, but it would be nice to have a choice.

Feature Requests / One push auto expo
May 09, 2013, 08:36:34 AM
Would it be possible to implement such feature? For example auto expo (iso or iso+aperture) for like 3 seconds with one push of a button.

Another question - is there the auto iso mode on 550d anymore? I cant find it (running a few months old nightly).

Feature Requests / [WONTFIX] Fake delete function
April 12, 2013, 02:07:27 PM
Could it be possible to fake a video deletion on 550d?
For example, if you are shooting something (government people, army, etc.) and they come to you and ask to delete that video or even take your camera to do it themselves, or in the worst case - they want to delete all in your card. This function then would be very useful.

General Chat / SD to CF adapter for video
March 18, 2013, 07:10:10 PM
Hey!

This year for weddings I'm going to rent a 5d2, I myself have a 550d and 5 16gb SD cards. I don't want to buy any CF cards for use with the rented 5d2, so here's the question - has anyone tried how well these adapters from CF to SD work for video?

Feature Requests / [IMPOSSIBLE] Expo lock in video
March 04, 2013, 10:06:29 AM
Hello!

Could it be possible to implement expo lock (if you can call it like that) in video? It could be useful for non-fixed aperture zoom lenses. For example Canon 18 - 200 lens.
When you are @18mm max aperture ir 3,5, but @200mm it's 5,6, so when you zoom in, it gets darker. It could be very useful to set the exposition, and when you zoom in, the camera automatically adjusts the ISO to compensate for the darker f-stop.
Of course, you can set the aperture to f5,6 already in the beginning, but everyone knows, that the aperture adjusts itself all the time, while zooming, and it creates some flickering during the zoom motion. It doesn't happen when zooming from f3,5 to f5,6. So, if it could be compensated by automatically changing the ISO, that would create a usable zooming motion.
Another plus is that you could use the lens at f3,5 in the wider end, instead of f5,6 (now you can't because of the exposure change).

Post-processing Workflow / Use raw photos in video
December 21, 2012, 12:41:09 AM
Hello!

What do you think of using two DSLRs that are next to each other one recording a video and the other taking pictures in raw?
Could some resolution or dynamic range be gained if those pictures were somehow put in the video (similar to how GOP frame codecs work)?
I guess that in a static landscape shot a raw picture taken from the same camera could be used to gain resolution and dynamic range.
Also, I remember a video on youtube, where some guy explained how to get a better low light static shot in the same way I am thinking about this (take a picture with longer exposure, then use it in video).

So, has anyone tried something like this?
And what would be the workflow to use these pictures in video?

Sorry, if this question has been on here already.
Not really about magic lantern though, maybe someone could move this thread to General Chat?

I hope that I am not duplicating topics, but I couldn't find this.
So - what about changing the aperture just buy turning the dial?
In most situations we shoot with 1/50 and we don't need to change the shutter speed, but the need for changing the aperture is more often. So why not make it easier? The shutter speed could be adjusted by using the Av + dial, like it was with aperture.
