Hi All,

Red one user here with Cf module, i would like to use 3rd party Cf cards on my camera but because of a firmware limitation, only cropped resolutions are available with "Non Red cards".
I know what some of you guys are capable of, so can someone replicate the Red Cf card code to 3rd party cards so the camera will be tricked thinking that a Red card has been inserted?
Red cards are Lexar cards originally but rebranded with an added code i guess (i'm only guessing), i can provide a card if needed and i will pay for that feature.
Here is an old thread showing the inside of a Red Cf module, maybe that can help:

Thank you in advance all,

All the best

General Chat / Red One Mx camera
December 27, 2013, 11:50:27 AM
Hello The Ml team, i hope you're fine!

I come from the 5d mark3, and since recently, i have a Red one Mx camera, i know that it's not the place but, here is a thread i've opened on the Reduser forum :

http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?107690-Fantastic-News-For-Red-One-(Mx)-Users!!-Is-That-Real-!!

To resume my request, Red one users with Cf modules has no other choice than shooting with the 16gb Red card because of a firmware limitation (we are able to use third party cf card but @ 2k only, which means a Huge crop of x3), a new Sandisk Cf card (4k designed) has incredible specifications, much more faster than the Red cf card (which is not really hard to make as the Red Card is very old), my question is:

"Can you open the firmware to other Cf cards brand for the Red one camera"?

Sandisk told me that they are ready to give technical help to make that happen but that didn't went all through, let me know guys, i'm sure it's a pretty easy issue for you, you made much more biger miracles by the past...

Raw Video / 3x Crop mode vs Lens
July 19, 2013, 12:54:46 PM
Hello all, everything is said in the title..

Let's say, for someone who got a 35mm 1.4, is it judicious for him to buy a 100mm macro (2.0) or the 3x crop mode will do the same job ?

I'm talking about zeiss lenses, with the 3x crop mode, the 35mm 1.4 will become a 105mm 1.4, vs the real 100mm 2.0 macro, what do you think guys?

Does the 3x crop mode can replace a lens or never at all?

Raw Video / RAW: Focus Peaking vs Small Hd monitor
July 16, 2013, 02:47:10 PM
Hello everyone, how are you?

So, the question is on the thread, in Raw mode, what is the best way to focus a subject? The ML focus peaking or the small Hd Ac7?

I've heard a lot of issues coming out from the combination "Raw mode + monitor", some people say that the write speed decreases when recording in raw, others say that the output is not "Hd" (so, the resolution is no more than 480p), and is the image "late" compared to what the 5d3 screen shows us?

Is the focus peaking from ML is enough or do we need a monitor (recording in Raw of course)

Thanks for your replies all..

Hello all, i've heard that having a samllhd monitor is useless when using a 5d2, due to the 480p resolution while recording..
Is there the same problem with the 5d3? I mean, while recording, can we have more than a 480p resolution (thanks to the hdmi output maybe) or no?

If no, which monitor can allow more than a 480p resolution?

Thanks all..

Raw Video / Raw video on 5d2/3, what does canon say?
April 29, 2013, 11:41:57 AM
Hello everybody, how are you? We all heard about this great announcement "Raw video on our 5d's", but no of us can say if a 2k 24p raw is possible. The thing which is indisputable is that the Magic Lantern team is working hard on it.

Tomorrow, the 30 april, canon will release their official firmware which will allow an uncompressed prores 4:2:2 8bit, through an external recorder.
Some people downloaded a "leaked" version of it, saying that there is no difference between the H.264 compressed file and the uncompressed one..

canon is making fun of us, and it is not a scoop, but, what are they saying about the fact that, MAYBE, Magic Lantern will find a way to record at 2k 24p raw? Why don't they help you to figure out this feature and make this possible?

We should ask them in person, if someone have a link wher we can directly talk to them, please share, and have a great day all..

Hello everybody, i've read a really strange think today, about the official April firmware for the mark 3, the guy talked about the 8bit 4:2:2 and says that, maybe, the firmware wil not allow a real 4:2:2 signal..

Here is his text:

"I have some doubts over Canon and Nikon's specs when they talk about HDMI. Canon say they have uncompressed 4:2:2 coming in a firmware update this April for the 5D Mark III, a full year after the hardware was released. The Nikon D800 it is claimed does 4:2:2 1080p out of the box. Is it really 4:2:2? This would require a significant change in the way the sensor is sampled. When a DSLR is skipping whole lines on the sensor just to read out a 1080p feed from a high resolution photographic imager, I don't see how it can be sampling 4:2:2. Rather, I think the HDMI coming from these cameras is 4:2:0 wrapped in a 4:2:2 ProRes format by the external recorder, and Canon and Nikon are possibly guilty of mislabeling it as true 4:2:2 when it isn't, much as the video is mislabelled 1080p when it is actually resolving far less in reality".

I would like to have your opinion about that, because if it is true, i have no reason to stay with canon..

Hello guys, how are you?
We all know (or almost) that in april, a new 5d mark 3 firmware will be released, which will allows us to have a clean 4:2:2 file, perfect, but we'll miss something really important, "the canon log gamma"..
Some people will talk about the technicolor cinestyle, but we know how bad can be this picture style (moiré, noise)..

So, my question is, "is it possible to convert the c300 c-log (or 1dc) in order to make it usable in a 5d mark 3", and my last question is: "why no one asked for that? you think that the Prolost neutral is enough or the same than a c-log?"

With the new firmware in April, and a c-log, our 5d mark3 can become a c300, or a 1Dc "1080p", am i right guys?

Thanks for reading!

Feature Requests / 5d3, The perfect camera
August 16, 2012, 12:56:51 PM
Hello everyone, hope you're fine,

the best dslr ever for me would be the 5d3 with

- magic lantern as it exists

- a clean hdmi output

- a 4k (or at least 2k) resolution

-60fps at 1080p

Why do you think? Is that a dream or something possible?  damn, canon should put all these options in the 5d3, a 4000 euros camera, hope they'll do something in the next firmware. In my opinion, they will, don't you agree?

ps: i have the 5d3, and it's a nice camera, but without these options, it's just a little upgrade of the 5d2, pretty bad
