Good idea, but what about alternative solutions? I would be happy if everybody respected each other. I have never seen such a strange picture used in this form in magiclantern.fm 😇

An alternative to magic lantern would only be a really expensive camera. Of course, cameras like the Canon EOS 5 RC are not really affordable. I'm considering the Canon EOS 1DX Mark iii, but then I noticed Canon EOS R5 was a similar price. I really would imagine that the Canon EOS 5D Mark III + Magic Lantern is a better camera. I am only happy waiting for the best in the Canon EOS R1 announced in 2024 to replace magic lantern.

Hope you all still happy. I have got a more philosophical question. Why are all of the codecs for all the cameras not recording in RAW. 😇

It seems to me like a mystery? I don't want to make it sounds like anybody's fault. But why are ports in progress, that maybe aren't so relevant? Thinking about : The journey is its own reward.

It is of course a controversial question. E.g. Which model looks better. 🙂

I would think the best way to go in develop Ing, would be the biggest and best cameras.

I would say, it is'nt made for autofocus compared to Sony.

Dear Magic Lantern Forum,

just for fun, I wanted to ask if anybody has any alternative. I prefer the Canon EOS 5D Mark III.
 Just saw a comparison between the Panasonic VariCam LT to the RED Scarlet.

And to be honest I love magic lantern very much more. Only the colour looks even more beautiful. This isn't full frame, but these cameras cost used 8,000 dollars at least.
So which camera would be your alternative out of all variations?

#5D3. I also can't record like without connecting the camera to the gimbal (DJI Ronin-S). I have to turn off sound completely and freeze LiveView. It would work though you can't see what is focused.

Dear Grognard,

I record in 14-bit lossless or in normal FullHD in uncompressed14 bit, to keep the best amount of colour. I then export in uncompressed *.dng and then edit with Adobe After Effects (Adobe Camera RAW).

Wow, I would love to see the whole movie. You really like 5D3 more? I love the 5.7K
 Beautiful how it doesn't look too Sharp. Some of the videos |example; DPReview| on YouTube looks to me over sharpened?

Good music.
Some music videos are filmed with real anamorphic lenses. I see that all the Sony cameras record mostly in 16:9, using an anamorphic adaptor I think that aspect ratio then gets too extreme. Maybe the Magic Lantern Developers would be able having an even better aspect ratio? Will there be any another Canon EOS 5D Mark III built? I am sure there would be donations? 🤑😉😇

Dear friend,
I would guess, CF cards over 64GB are in a different data format. This should be formatted in ExFat. Are you sure you formatted the card in the camera before you recorded?

Thank you so much, @Grognard, I really appreciate this super useful information! I will purchase two 128GB CF cards instead of two 256GB cards, knowing it's enough space. This will save me a lot of money 


@Bruno Italiano, I have a 6D with a VAF-6D installed that will serve as my B cam. From what I've seen of the 5.7k footage, it appears to squeeze down to a 2:39 aspect ratio, so I will just simply shoot in regular MLV in a 2:39 aspect ratio setting on my 6D.

 Amazing what kind of footage you can achieve with these cameras. By the way has anybody heard anything of Zeek?

I just recorded without 14bit lossless.
First magic lantern settings:
Presets > OFF
1920x1290
Movie>    RAW videw     >.   Data format          >  14-bit lossless\14-bit.
With Sound
Basically I completely FrozenLV. So there was absolutely no preview.
Anti global draw {ON}
Movie>Shoot>Focus>Display
Anti Canon GUI {ON}


Second magic lantern settings:
 Danne's 5K I set to 12bit.
Presets > anamorphic
Movie>    RAW videw     >.   Data format          >  14-bit lossless\12-bit.
Anti global draw {ON}
Movie>Shoot>Focus>Display
Anti Canon GUI {ON}
So there was absolutely no preview.
In the normal Canon menu I completely disabled sound recording. And of course. Enable sound {OFF} in magic lantern.
