General Help Q&A / Re: Recording stopped - 3.5K raw
June 14, 2020, 02:36:58 PM
I'm using build crop_rec_4k.2018Jul22.5D3113 downloaded straight from the ML website, any reason why I should download it from somewhere else?

Settings are 3.5k crop mode 1:1 at 24fps. 12 bit Lossless raw. I've had it working most of the time but every now and then I get a random 'recording stopped' which really messed things up.

Card is benchmarked at 116MB/s in the camera.

General Help Q&A / Recording stopped - 3.5K raw

I'm using a 5D III with a SanDisk Extreme pro 64GB, but quite often the recording stops due to the card not being able to keep up.

Everything I've heard about CF cards has pointed me to this one, including posts on the forum. If I can't get reliable results on this, what should I be using? I'm not recording audio and I'm using 12 bit lossless.

I'm having similar issues with the SanDisk cards. Remember that the 160MBps figure is read speed, the write speed on mine is around 117MBps, benchmarked in the camera.

Test yours and see what the figure comes out as, ML should give you a guide of what write speed you need at the bottom once you select the correct video mode.

Only run the necessary modules for now.

Raw Video / Re: 5D III CF Card Requirements

Got the Sandisk Extreme Pro, benchmarked at 117ish in the camera but I still can't seem to record 3.5k with 12 bit lossless or anything else? Don't want to go down to 3k, 8-11 bit works but I'm not sure how that even works or what the benefits are?

General Help Q&A / SD Card disadvantages?
May 14, 2020, 09:31:58 PM
I've always read that having an SD installed in the 5D III brings the speed down dramatically. Is this still true with booting ML from it?

Will I have the same burst rate performance as without an SD, just with the added benefit of being able to quickly remove the SD and disable ML?

Cheers

That's where I got my 80MBps figure from.

So the Extreme Pro should get me the write speed I need to record 3.5K? I'm surprised it's such a step up from my current card, seems like I'll need a lot more if I can barely manage 1080p!

Raw Video / 5D III CF Card Requirements

I've got a SanDisk 'Extreme' 64GB with a quoted 120MB/s, which I assume is the read speed.

I can barely write 1080p 14-bit to this card, when I was hoping to do 3.5K! Seems like I've got about 80MBps write speed...

Is this what I should expect? And which card should I buy if I want to write 3.5k?

Thanks

Scripting Q&A / Reading DoF or AF-On key? 5D III
May 01, 2020, 10:08:47 PM
I'm trying to write a little helper script to switch between AF modes using a key on the camera, preferably the DoF preview key or AF-ON.

Is there a way to access these keys or? They're not listed in the lua script documentation...

I'd like to toggle from one shot (with expansion) and AI servo (set point then tracking) using a key, but it seems impossible in the canon menus.
