yeh, I mean real time correct framing.
how much cropped others?

same way via hdmi?

I would like to know the preview framing/crop specifics as well. Contemplating getting a 5D3...

Youngstown trailer is adorable. Congrats on your accomplishments and with ML gear no less!

Only 650d/700d can do correct high resolution hdmi out. EOS M may do that also. Thanks to Bil's work. Hope he can figure out the 5d3's realtime preview and hdmi out.
650D/700D UHD 1X3 preset has AR 16-9, 4K 1x3 preset has AR 2. I tested that both HDMI out works fine with my Zacuto 3 inch EVF.
5D3's 5.7k 1x3 preset has incorrect framing unstretched hdmi out. I can use Zacuto EVF's anamorphic ratio of 2 to do certainly level of unstretching that is good enough for rough framing, but the hdmi out framing is not correct.

Hm. Ok. So 650D or possibly 5D3.
Hopefully some test footage will be posted soon.
Fascinating developments. Exciting.

I've been out of the ML world for a few years but this seems like a tempting development to jump back. What camera would people recommend for highest continuous resolution 16:9 to 2:20 and hdmi monitor out?

Lol, not *quite* as handy as a monitor but certainly one way to circumvent potential dropped frames and other external monitor issues:

https://www.camiror.com/

I'm hoping its current popularity will spur the development of a less 'diy'-looking version.

Thanks for the info everyone. Can't actually install it yet because I don't own an EOS M yet (hence why I was asking for some more info - to help me in my purchasing)

I think I was blending together the anamorphic and mcm rewire modes when I said higher-resolution recording with no crop. I still can't pin down exactly what either of these modes actually do and don't do, but I'll keep reading the thread.

My Key takeaway is:

Only Mv1080 MCMRewire can be used with an external monitor and does not involve additional cropping.

2.5k has x3 crop so lens choice must be adjusted accordingly. x5 zoomed in liveview means careful consideration of framing (maybe by using another preset first with full liveview, then switch back over the 2.5k)

5K Anamorphic requires (I think) at least 16:9 ratio setting in addition to the 'raw video' resolution and ratio setting to meet card speed requirements (so two ratio settings to adjust). Anamorphic preview is squeezed but you do get the entire image, so framing is easier.

From reading back to around page 90 of this thread, so far I think I understand that:
    • (I think) the MCM rewire builds allow for RAW recording at higher resolutions without the huge crop factor but aren't super stable

I'm not aware of this. As far as I can tell with the recent builds, MCM stops at 1763x976.

Are you using the merged M2 ML Build or DForts M2 ML Build?

Using the M2 build listed from your recent M2 Raw AF video (I recently rebuilt my PC and didn't want to hunt down my previous files on my other drive, so I just downloaded your link).

For the M2, I copied all the focus pixel maps in the folder and dragged them into MLV App and now there are no more focus pixels/dots present in each file with the M2.

Yeah, I've tried that. Downloaded the repository, did a drag and drop of all the maps as well as pasting them in the same folder as mlvapp. No luck.

Doing some head to head comparisons with M2 v. M. M2 shows focus dots, even with pixel maps loaded. I use 3x3 Chroma smooth, which helps to a great degree however when watching footage on a large 4k TV, banding is still visible:

It's harder to see with a still frame.

This is with MCMRewire 24fps 1/50 (sometimes 1/55) shutter speed at 400 ISO. But also present at 100 ISO.

    @Danne
With ratio set to OFF in 5K Rewired @1736x2178 I can get 23.97fps using fps override, the only issue though is that it freezes in the live view.  ::) :'(

And you also experience dropped frames with an external monitor using 5k, correct?

i was just guessing that the m2 may perform well with 2.5K @full resolution dunno.

Yes, I sense the force is strong with the M2.

I personally find the audio SUPERB, even just the on board mic. here is an older build test that has a lot of good raw audio, what blew me away was all the nature sounds I was capturing while not even thinking twice about it while out shooting. If I ever needed some nature sound fx, I would be comfortable with the M getting the job done. lol

Great vid, thanks. I can sympathize with Donnie sometimes trying to catch up with all the ML info ; )

    thanks guys

Is it possible to record audio on any of the raw settings? I know the more demanding presets like Ana etc. you can't, but is it possible mv1080 or 2.5k? I ask because I rarely see sound brought up in recent builds and the videos people post are silent.

You can read about what´s going on with the regular 1st gen eosm:
    https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=9741.msg208959#msg208959

These presets mostly don´t apply to the eos m2 atm. If you really want it working you need to take the long route and learn about compiling and to understand the code around magic lantern. There are also specific issues with eos m2 such as freezes, only working stable with raw_slurp disabled etc. Not solved yet so don´t expect too much here.

Thanks. I don't necesarrily need it working, just wanted to know how what it meant/how it works. I think I found the relevant information after more searching.

I have an EOS M on the way, since it looks like that's where the bulk of development is right now.

Could someone explain what exactly 4k Anamorphic means as used in the M/2? I am trying to read as many threads as I can but it's hard to trace origins/definitions of terms. For instance I'm playing around with the M2 and I see I can turn on 4k Anamorphic at x3 Crop with Raw set to 1736x868 (2:1).

x3 Crop I understand, Raw mode I understand, but '4k' Anamorphic isn't clear to me (yes, I know what traditional 'anamorphic' means).

Could someone shed some insight? It would be much appreciated.

Whatever it means, I was able to record about a min straight at ~54MB/s.

Are you serious? Even the MicroSD while using the adapter doesn't bottle neck the writing speeds at all? I'm surprised...

The Extreme Plus MicroSD 80 is ranked just behind the Extreme 95 Pro in the 6D memory test on the CMS website. That's why I thought it was worth getting the Costco 170. I assume they used an adapter for the test.:

QuoteSpeed tests with and without the adapter in readers with both slots provide virtually identical results (microSD to SD adapters are simple pass-though devices).

The microSDHC version of the Extreme Plus outperformed the standard SD card version that was previously reviewed.

...In camera tests the 32GB Extreme Plus microSDHC posted some impressive results. In some cameras it is among the top performing cards.

Just benchmarked two cards for my EOS M2:

Using Transcend USB3.0 card reader and CrystalDiskMark:

    SanDisk Extreme Pro 170mb/s 128GB = R 94mb/s and W 84mb/s.
*No problem running continuous 14bit lossless MCM Rewired at 1736*976

    SanDisk Extreme Plus MicroSD/Adapter 170mb/s 128GB = R 93mb/s and W 85mb/s
*No problem running continuous 14bit lossless MCM Rewired at 1736*976

For anyone who is a member or knows someone, the 128GB Extreme Plus w/adapter is available in a 2-pack from Costco for only $45 (USA) (for both). Great deal.

According to an unverifiable source around 30 percent of all SD-cards offered by non-official dealers are faked.
If you purchase a card from such a source a thorough after-buy check is mandatory (in all other cases highly recommended).

    Check for faked speed specification:
    - Fast cardreader + PC + a benchmark program like CrystalDiskMark (Windows) or Blackmagic Disk Speed Test (macOS).
You only need to run sequential R/W. Compare with benchmark runs from reliable sources like www.cameramemoryspeed.com

Ok, thanks Walter. With Transcend USB3.0 card reader I got:
SD 95  = Seq. Read of 92mb/s and 27mb/s write.
    SD 170 = R 94mb/s and W 84mb/s.

I guess I got a fake one alright. Thanks for the info guys.

No, the 480p thing was with mv1080 a lot of builds ago before we had mcm rewire. It works with mcm rewire 1080 no need to set 480 on the monitor. The M2 works well with my different monitors such as the FOTGA A50T and the Feelworld 4K Monitor F570.

"WARNING" - Just make sure you "TURN OFF" Wi-fi when using an external monitor on the EOS M2, otherwise nothing will show up ;)

    Thanks Zeek.

I received my M2 last week. I've spent that time learning ML but was mystified why I could not achieve any higher than ~1376x5xx continuous, regardless of setting (I did a lot of testing with different settings). Even worse, the performance seemed to be slowly getting worse over time. From ~23-24MB/s down to 20-21. Never anywhere close to 30. I used a brand new 128GB Extreme Pro 95 UHS-I ordered from Ebay. Finally I decided to buy another card from a local electronics chain - this time a 64GB 170 Extreme Pro. Now I get 33mb/s and continuous no problem. I don't know if the 128 was fake or a bad batch being offloaded for cheap or just bad luck. But I thought it worth mentioning.

    perfectly working with external monitors

I've just purchased an M2 and intend to install ML. Zeek, when you say perfectly working do you mean only with 480p setting limitation?
