Gosh, curb your saturation a bit. This looks like a Samsung TV promo video where the grading and clarity is just completely over the top...

But I do the see the love for ML and the editing is pretty consistent with a good music choice, so keep on doing!

But a few weeks ago I finally had the opportunity to dust off my magic 5D again.

I'm still amazed by the results I get with this modest setup:

• 59.94 fps override
• 1440x672 -> 1440x1200

Workflow:

• MLVFS
• Davinci
• Premiere/After Effects
• MediaEncoder

Neither a tripod nor a gimbal was used, all of the clips where shot handheld on my skates.

Very nice images! A little underexposed but very nice

Ach du Scheiße war das schräg...

Only the first outdoor scene was somewhat well graded and lit. The rest is way too underexposed.
And watch your audio recordings, it's noisy as hell!

Nevertheless, I do see the dedication and passion you've put into this little project.
You've got some solid foundations which can be built upon, so keep going!

Why destroy this piece with some overrated drone shots ?! They just don't fit at all and completely break the vibe:
Your great camera work really allows us viewers to feel like being on site and then u completely annihilate this great feeling with some imperialistic aerial shots, which snatch us completely back to reality since we're reminded by them, that is just a video...

Please forgive my hard words, but the love for your work made me do it.

Cut the blue in your shadows!!
Looks very amateurish and I would highly recommend starting with some LUTs instead of getting everything done by curves, especially if you're new to grading.

If you take some time, u can find a lot of really good workflow breakdowns in some of the posts in this forum...

I just stumbled across this forum's section and I couldn't find any topic related to this subject.

I'm a passionate user of ML and its wonderful Crop Mode and being able to get the exact framing while filming in Crop mode would be a real game changer for me.

I understand that it's very easy and comfortable for me to ask for such a feature but I'd also really appreciate to understand why this isn't actually possible yet ?

Thank you very much again guys for your nice comments! I didn't expect that.

Since many questions also refer to the stabilization process, let me say that it took a me few years to get this result from my bare hands. After many stabilizations, u get to understand what the software likes and what it loathes. Of course u can't film everything with that technique, since not everything can be stabilized. But restriction promotes creativity, so I can get along with that compromise

What music is it?

Did you go by inlines or skateboard while filming?

I made all of the shots on my inline-skates (apart from the one shot of me where my friend used his skateboard).

The nicest thing about shooting with Magic Lantern is you can shoot close to a square if you want to, which is great for social media and phones!

Independently of social media, that's also what I love about ML, having that total freedom when it comes to aspect ratio. Also being able to shoot narrower than 21:9 is amazing.

Was your resolution a creative decision or technical decision ?

Purely creative.

Is that Warp stabilizer or another effect?

What stabilizer did you use? How much time did it take you to edit all the videos? just a single 35mm for all the shots?

• All shots were filmed with my bare hands (no gimbal nor glidecam) and stabilized in post
• Some of the clips are about one year old, the grading of each location took about 2-3 hrs each and the whole cut around 72 hrs. Even tough is hard to tell exactly how long each step took since there's been much back and forth in the process of grading and cutting due to trial and error
• And finally yes, just a single 35mm lens has been used for all the shots! (apart from the old DV-clips of course)

SPECS:

• shot on the 5D Mark III with a sigma art 35mm
• shot in 1296x1080 in 14bit at 23,976 fps
• the files were mounted w/ MLVFS, graded in DaVinci and edited in Premiere

Apologies for bumping an older thread but how did the live view work in 3.5k? ive been reading around but everyone says its extremely slow and unusable in this mode. Your shots look absolutely stunning to say the least.

Thank you very much for your kind words! I used the plain old canon liveview but before hitting the record button, I half pressed the trigger so I could get the exact framing.
This is very handy for stills but a bit tricky when you wish to add some camera movement, since you won't get a realtime nor framed liveview in crop mode while filming.
So I had to remember the framing, go for it and hope it'll turn out good.

Is this context it was quite practicable, but imagine filming sports or even on some serious productions, this would be way too kamikaze.

I will allow myself to make a wish to the next builds right here since I am also a heavy user of this wonderful piece of software:

I know u guys out there have pushed ML to a state which no one could have thought of and I'm honestly really grateful for that.
The last little tiny thingy I would love, is to be able to use the wonderful crop mode with an accurate liveview while filming.
This would enable so much possibilities and turn those canons into some serious workhorses.
I know it is easy for me to say so, but I'm sure you guys are able to do that since you already made all of this happen!

These Art-Series are indeed high-quality optics! I'm very happy with their results, even in crop mode!! It's even where I get the best out of my 35mm, since it'll "crop out" the very small amount of distortion and vignetting around the edges of the lens. Perfect for the 3.5K resolution
