Thanks! I maybe went a little bit over the top with contrast and saturation, but that was the look I was going for. And I have to work on my transitions. I was also surprised at how bright the lights now are at such a small venue, so I did not have to push the ISO too much. Not so low light, after all

The ratio quality / weight of this small DSLR is unbeatable I am thankful for the work that has been done so far. I am seriously thinking of buying a 5D3, though.

It's been while, but here is a new movie. Again, a special thanks to Danne for his amazing builds

Shot on my 100D with the 40 mm STM pancake and the 55-250 mm IS. Tips for helping me improving are always welcomed!

Workflow:
1. 12 bit lossless raw with the latest Danne's ML version I could find
2. convert to CDNG with MLV App, using darkframe subtraction and 3x3 chroma smooth
3. ACR in AE 32 bits color project: optics, sharpening and noise reduction, dehaze and clarity, Cinelog-C profile
5. export from AE to DNxHR 2K 444 12 bits
6. import in PP, lumetri color correction and an adjustment layer with the "Cinelog-C to REC709 Full" LUT

Thanks for sharing this. Indeed the mighty 100D + 10-18 STM combo is killer together especially with crop_rec stuff.

How many cards did you have to bring along w you on this trip assuming you didn't have a laptop/drive on set?

Here is my new movie, shot in Switzerland. I thank you for your comments and advices: this one is much better compared to the previous one. I'd off course be happy to receive comments again on how I can improve and produce a better one next time!

Workflow:
1. 12 bit lossless raw with Danne's ML version
2. convert to CDNG file from Danne's batch_mlv
3. ACR in AE 32 bits color project, Rec. 709 color space.
4. exposition adjusted with AE exposure filter, not in ACR
5. export from AE to Cinelog-C with DNxHD 444
6. import in PP, add lumetri color with basic LUT "none", creative LUT "Cinelog universal film Rec. 709 film full"

I used 12 bits lossless raw video on a Canon 100D and a 10-18 Lens, with alternatively "crop mode" on and off.

I stopped using VisionLog, I bought the Cinelog profiles. It seems much better.

To avoid any flickering, I stopped using any slider in ACR, except sharpening and noise reduction. I wonder if I can safely use the lens distortion correction (without the vignetting correction). I miss to be able to use the clarity or dehaze filters though.

While shooting, I tried to use the "a little zebras are OK" policy for exposure, for some shots (like the one at 00:40). But now that I do not use the basic sliders in ACR, I have trouble getting the highlights back. In the Lumetri Color effect in PP, I find that only the shadows slider is helpful, but not really the white, blacks, highlights ones. I wonder if if i'm doing this right, and if I should go back to a "no zebra" policy.

Above version and 12bit lossless should give you full resolution in 25fps. Or if you enable sd_uhs you can run it with even higher bits.

Thanks for the tip and for your software! I've just tried on camera and I record at full resolution with 12 bits lossless, as you said. I find the user interface is also better.

I'm surprised it's MLV 1.1 though. And unfortunately I get gibberish (pic below) when I mount the files with mlvfs (latest windows x64 build, latest stable dokany), as I do usually. Is it because it is MLV 1 instead of MLV 2? Do I have to process the files with batch_mlv before mounting the mlv files?

Update to this post:
After trying to use mlvfs with 12 bit lossless footage, I wanted to check if everything was OK with my MLV 2.0 files. Unfortunately, no I got some green bad/focus pixels back. It remembers me the headaches back in the days, when I was setting it up for the first time.

I tried MLV App, it works. I also tried batch_mlv_in-out, it works too.

I think I'm gonna use batch_mlv_in-out from now on.

   I recommend using Batch_mlv if you're on Windows, and Switch (formerly known as CR2HDR). I really like the software Danne provides (I believe there are more people who have worked on the development of this app)

Your link will definitely changed my way to expose. Until now I was using ETTR with a "no zebra" policy.

I am surprised by the fact that you get more dynamic range at 800 ISO. Is it not that the lower, the better? What is this "native ISO" concept ? Are you saying that there is a sort of "sweet spot", like for lens aperture?

Warp Stabilizer plays its own tricks: in the static scene about 3 min. 10 sec. the mountain is breathing. Mocha would be much more controllable.

Could I get better results by playing with the stabilizer parameters ? I use "position, rotate, scale" as method in this scene.

We al use ML RAW for different reasons, my reason is because that I like fullframe and 14 bit raw. I like grading a lot.
Does the 5D3 enables me to make the most initeresting videos I can make? I don't know but maybe not.

In camera I shot raw video, 25 frames per seconds, at a resolution like 1472 × 616, maybe a tiny bit less. That's how much I get from my Canon 100D. since I did not modify it, I suppose this is 14 bits per channel. I did not find where to set it to 12 or 10 bits yet.

I'm interested in obtaining as much quality as I can. I watched your latest movie , and I can see you like grading, impressive work. I hope to be as good some day.

The video 4 years ago was shot without ML, in H264 1080p.

Here is a short ski touring film, made with raw video on a Canon 100D and a 10-18 Lens. I'd be happy to receive comments on how I can improve and produce a better one next time!

I use the VisionLog profile. Do you think I would benefit from using the Cinelog profiles?

Workflow for each clip:
1. MLVFS -> AE -> ACR : Adjust the image with "Adobe Color" profile, then use VisionLog profile. The project settings are 16 bits per channel, Rec. 709.
2. Put in new HDTV 1080p 25 composition (no upscaling, means I have black borders), export to DNxHD (10 bits)
3. Import in PP, edit in a new 1080p DNxHD sequence, and apply a Lumetri Color effect with "VisionLog to camera neutral Rec. 709" input LUT.
4. Create a new 720p sequence, export to H264.

Here is my second attempt of an AETTR + DUAL ISO time-lapse.

I am mostly satisfied, but the end result does not match the quality I want to achieve (yet). I followed the method of the first post of the thread.

Around 10% of the images did not survive the cr2hdr process (latest official zip, PS or LR were unable to reopen the DNGs renamed to CR2 (step 4)). I skipped a few other images, which exposure compensation was not good, I mean a perceived difference of more than 1EV from one image to the next. I go with default settings, except the intervalometer set to 30s, max shutter 10s. I also use a 1s mirror lockup.

I would appreciate if you have any advice about that. I'll try next without dual iso (to see If I still get those glitches in exposure compensation) and then update the Magic Lantern to the latest beta.

I would say 2,5K is very unlikely, especially in continuous recording. Do you have an idea of the SD card writing speed?

Yeah, from what I see, the more CS, the worst it is. I'd better not touch this. But I do not see any difference between NoFix, BadPixelFix and Agressive alone. Do you?

Update on the tested stuff, minor bugs (or surprising things to me) found:

• ML menu: flickering of the screen, a fraction of a second every five seconds or so, while navigating it in move mode, or in liveview while in photo mode.
• ML LiveView: the histogram and DOF info together are overlapping a little bit and flickering, one over each other
• The date of the written files on the FAT filesystem on the SD card is UTC, not local time. I don't remember if it is the same behavior with the stock Canon firmware.
• Post Deflicker: the first character of the XMP file name (IMG_xxxx.XMP) does not match the CR2 one (_MG_xxxx.CR2).

Thanks so much for having a look at this! I guess I'm gonna go with crop mode as much as I can then.

The only drawback I see is about the limited focal length on the wide side: by using the value provided by ML in the movie menu (5.83 instead of the regular 1.94 with a resolution of 1440×602) my 18-55mm lens is the equivalent  of a 105-320 in crop mode. Maybe someday I'll buy the 10-18mm IS STM.

On the good side, beside getting rid of the artifacts, being more in the center of the glass should provide better quality, or at least reduce drastically the vignette effect of the lens. And my 55-250 is the equivalent of a 320-1460mm!

MlRawViewer is supposed to work natively I think, you should not have to use wine. Anyway, MlRawViewer is not maintained anymore. Did you have a look to MLVFS?

I did not refresh, because it seemed to me at first that changes are taking effect immediately, and apparently it's not 

So I did it again, here how:

I have a sequence opened in PP, direct import of the mounted MLV in PP, no transcoding.
I tested each setting (nothing, then chroma 3x3, then chroma 5x5) like this:

1. Closing PP,
2. Change the setting with refreshing the browser, loading the preview
3. Reopening PP, play a few seconds of video, export a PNG image (the same each time).
