QuoteI managed to format the card in an old 5D. Recuva has found a 2GB block of uncorrupted data but wont show it as individual files. Stella Phoenix has found all the images (& displays previews) ...I just have to pay the $39...

[UPDATE]
Reinserted the CF card into the 5DmkII & now the controls are functional. Reformatted the card then put it in a PC cardreader. Ran Recuva software again & this time it retrieved all lost images.

Result. :D

General Help Q&A / Battery Fail ...CF card corrupt!
March 07, 2016, 09:40:08 AM
I did a photoshoot this morning, at sunrise. Right at the end the battery failed. I'm now trying to download the images but Lightroom just hangs. I put the CF card in a USB reader & it does not show a drive. I've never had this happen before & can only assume it has to do with Magic Lantern, as this is a new addition to the camera.

Putting the card back in the 5DmkII, I get a notice 'Card not formatted. Format with this camera'. I was willing to take the risk of formatting the card & then salvaging the images with a rescue software but all the camera functions are frozen & I can not format in camera!

Any advice ...there is no option to reshoot?

General Chat / dotTune Results!
February 11, 2016, 12:34:53 PM
Today, I'm very happy!

I've been having a lot of problems with the Auto Focus for my 5DmkII & the 50mm f1.2L. Of course, I was advised to upgrade to the 5DmkIII (because the lens was 'made for it') but my budget does not stretch that far.

I went to Specsavers & also bought the Precision Matte focus screen which improved the Manual Focus but Auto was still out. I then tried the manual Northlight Microadjustment method for correcting the AF.
http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/cameras/1ds3_af_micoadjustment.html
The resultant correction factor was -20. Still the focus was out & I was tempted to send both to Canon for recalibration.

Two minutes with the Magic Lantern dotTune & the lens was recalibrated to a -7 correction factor. Test so far show good results.

Thank you for all the hard work!

General Help Q&A / Transparent Cropmark Overlays
January 31, 2016, 09:37:29 PM
I have been following the ML Wiki guide on how to make cropmarks for LiveView overlays on my Canon 5DmkII.
http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/Cropmarks

  • I tried a 95% black made with a solid black layer set at 95% in RGB >convert to Index using the ML ColorPalette > save as 8Bit bitmap.
  • I tried CMYK (0,0,0,95) >convert to Index using the ML ColorPalette > save as 8Bit bitmap
  • I tried picking colour 20 from the pallet (#202020) > save as 8Bit bitmap
...but nothing produces a transparent mask. Is this a deprecated feature? :(

I noticed others have been using stripes to create a shaded mask ...this, however, creates, irritating moires!
