Where can I find the special build of silent.mo that allows returning to liveview after full-res silent pictures? I looked on Dfort's downloads page but can't see anything related to it. Any help appreciated!

Thanks!

Just verifying this appears to be an issue specifically in Full Res mode for Silent Pictures - simple mode doesn't seem to disable live-view after taking a pic.

Silent Pictures don't seem to work properly with motion detection, though the docs seem to suggest it does. It's likely I'm doing something wrong, but I think it may be related to the LiveView being essentially paused until a long half-shutter press occurs. I think the motion detect module uses the LiveView to compare frames so it does take a single photo and then just stops after that. Any help appreciated, looking at the code now in silent.c and wondering if it is line 1162, in silent_pic_take_fullres() where PauseLiveView(); is called? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks miket! I'll definitely browse your post history to see if I can pick up some tips. I am using a 7D - so I think I am a bit more limited in that regard. I am able to scan a 100ft roll in 2-3 hours currently, but the nice thing is that the scans are 5k - so I can crop down to 4k. I guess what I was mainly curious about was the quality difference between using MLV to shoot FRSP and using internal DNG. With the DNG setting it takes closer to 10 hours to do a 100ft roll, but I am unsure if there is a difference in quality. The MLV setting seems to produce DNG's that are 8-bit (according to the info on the files) but I am wondering of the DNG setting outputs files at 14-bit or if it is essentially equivalent. It's pretty amazing to be able to shoot a roll, develop it, and scan it in a single day!

I'm using Magic Lantern FRSP (Full Resolution Silent Pictures) to scan 16mm film. I've found that using MLV I am able to more quickly trigger another photo (2-3 seconds) - whereas with DNG it has a longer turnaround (5-10 seconds). I am curious what the quality trade-offs are between the two - and any tips you might have on increasing my turnaround time between taking photos. Happy to answer any questions on my process if you're curious. And one other question - are Silent Pictures able to take advantage of sensor cropping? and if so - how do I go about it, hitting zoom and taking a photo seems to render the full frame in silent picture mode.

Thanks!

More than happy to help provide testing on the 7D.

Just tested this new build on 7D - it works! - the live view in some cases works as well which is awesome - what i had to do was: i turn global draw/liveview on, and then i turn it off, and when i hit record i am able to see what i am shooting! If i don't do that first it doesn't seem to work, it just freezes like it had previously.

The user guide link is broken. Does anyone have an alternative?

Was able to record 2240x1200 at 10-bit continuous on 7D in crop mode with the build Nikfreak provided.

Yes I was able to confirm that it was recording properly and without issues on my mac using mlvfs and davinci. Beside continuous at 2240x1200 was able to get around 1m40s of recording at 2520x1200. This is really awesome, I hope it will continue to be developed!

By turning off Auto Lighting Optimizer in the Canon menu I was able to record at 2240x1200 continuously but still unable to view what is being recorded.

I think I figured it out, I am able to record at higher resolutions when I zoom in with cropped mode at 5x. I am unable to see what is being recorded, the image just freezes, but it appears to be recording without issues at 1080p in cropped mode. The next highest resoluton 2240x1200 goes for about 25 seconds before stopping.

I tried the firmware hack from nikfreak but was unable to increase the resolution past 1735x976 even though my bit depth is set to 10 and my preview is set to canon. Anyone know why that might be? Thanks!

That's really interesting! Unfortunately searching for 12 bit raw recording on the forums returns zero results. What would be helpful would be the documentation on those attempts at recording 10 bit raw! I'd love to learn more about it :)

But according to your calculation there, if 12 bit color depth were possible (the Digital Bolex shoots at 12 bit), the data rate would be low enough for 1080p continuous? Just making sure I'm doing the calculation right.

Is a bit depth of 12 instead of 14 possible?

Is it technically possible to crop the sensor at ratios other than 5x? I am curious because I wonder if the censor were cropped only slightly maybe we could bring the continuous recording resolution up to 1080p?

I am trying to use the Restart Rec. Feature in the Movie Extras menu, and it doesn't seem to be working at all.

Here is my settings:

Crop Mode: 2048x1152
FPS: 24

I usually get about 6-8 seconds of recording in this mode, but to be able to have it auto restart recording at the end of each of these segments would be awesome because I could put it on a tripod during a shoot and get a bunch of 7 second clips that were basically sequential and could be cut into A-cam footage in post.

Any help would be appreciated!

Did the 50mm have image stabilization?

Shot on a Canon 7D with 28mm f2.8 Soligir Lens with Magic Lantern RAW hack at 1728x972
Color Graded in Davinci Resolve 11 Lite with Vision Color M31 LUT as starting point

No crop mode used, was too shaky on my monopod.

7D has dual-iso for still photos, but not for video yet

Right i just mean i heard that 7d can not use more than 64gb but it appears to work - is this actually true?

This is on a 128gb card, i just read up there that exfat doesn't work, but the menu shows 120gb available? and i think i formatted as exfat. Is that not actually how much I can use?
