Bug: Crash with Canon 70-200 2.8 II IS.

sometime I can take a few pictures then crash or crash about a 30 seconds after turning on.
blue screen stating there is a problem.  turning off takes a while for screen to turn off.

have not had this error with the Canon 24-70 2.8 MkII

I have beta-4a installed. been using ML on many different cameras over the years. first time I have got this blue screen error.

known issue?
Change the date in the canon menu, it's an April fools joke programmed into magic lantern.

I have an event later today that I am covering, and while I agree that this gag is in fact hilarious, it did take me a bit to figure out that it was an April Fool's Day prank (I saw the focus on the date and had to google to make sure). Changing the date in the camera isn't a terribly difficult workaround, but I do agree that maybe it should be phased out for next year (I'm still laughing, though!).

Lmao I booted my camera up today to test before my first concert shoot tonight and got a blue screen of death, which I wasn't familiar with magic lantern and of course had me sweating bullets. I looked it up, forgetting what day it was and apparently it only happens on April 1, which is hilarious at first but then I realized I do need to shoot later today for a job. I changed the date in the canon menu, but would if it would be possible to remove this joke mode in a future update, that would be great. Thanks!

Is there any chance of developing/implementing white balance controls in the next release?

I am using an Android tablet with DSLR Controller on it, and Alpha5b version A. It works fine in All-I mode, but freezes in RAW. It also freezes when recording MLV.

Just tried RAW Recording with an external monitor attached, and the camera crashes, requiring the battery being pulled in order to reset. It never starts recording, only starts with the red time code and then freezes. The screen stays on even if the camera is turned off. This is through the USB output.

Hi everyone, I am new on the forum.
I installed ML on my 70D (098024000xxx) two days ago. So far, it seems to work fine. I use it almost only on video mode and I will test it tomorrow during a 2 hours show.
Thanks for the job you all are doing.

Make sure to thoroughly test out all settings before the show in order to avoid recording issues.

Just realized that with MLV, it always goes to the Canon LiveView when recording, regardless of what you selected in the menu, even hacked no preview.

It must just be an issue with the video version, I tried it with a picture and it worked great. It is alternating blue and red flashes every other frame. HDR works well, though. I have tried the latest raw2dng.exe and dropped the dngs onto the cr2hdr as well and both times it flashes red and blue. The cr2hdr says that it cant find the exif (ISO) data from the DNG files.
#12
Sorry, I'm using the dual ISO for video. I'm trying to convert it now, cr2hdr.exe is the version from http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=7139.0 , as I needed the exiftool.exe and the dcraw.exe. There appears to be an issue in converting the .DNG files as it specifies on that thread, as it isn't converting them.
#13
I am having some issues with the Dual ISO, the main one being this blue/red lens flare looking thing on the right hand side of the frame. Is this normal? Everything else works great!
#14
It depends on your recording settings, if the raw is above 720p in 16:9 or 1560p in 2.39:1, it overloads the cache memory, or the buffer.
#15
RAW video captures the image straight from individual pixels on the cameras sensor. What you see in LiveView is canon's rendition based off of in camera settings, RAW removes these settings and writes the straight pixel data to a .RAW file. When you convert it, it will seem dark and flat until you color correct it. I might not understand your issue, but it may just be that LiveView shows a brighter (not underexposed) rendition, whereas the sensor is actually darker/possibly underexposed.

Hey all, is there any way to direct output the data from the camera's sensor (like raw) through an HDMI output? I use a Canon 70D, which shoots upwards of 5K pictures, and don't have the cash for a 4K camera, but my friend had an Atomos which can record 4K. Is this even feasible? Thanks!

Confirmed this morning that the FPS (set to 24 on the canon menu) is locked at 21.576 and deviates +/- .002 FPS during recording. I'm sure there is an issue with the algorithm that regulates frame rate, @Nikfreak, I looked through Raw_Rec.c and couldn't find the part that actually controls frame rate/how data is recorded to the SD card. Is it in another place?

EDIT: I found fps.c, am looking through it now.

To anyone who is running this build on their 70D:

What does your camera temperature (on the ML overlay) get up to?  My 70D gets up to about 80C after ~10 minutes of usage (in either LiveView or Movie mode) every single time I use it.  Even when not recording.  I'm wondering if ML is causing my cam to get so warm (doubt it) or if it just always gets that warm, and whether that's common for 70Ds or just a problem with mine.  I'm betting it would overheat during an outdoor shoot in the summer...

I'm getting the same temp, but it doesn't feel any warmer than usual, especially around the SD card slot, which usually gets hot. It stays warm (cooler than usual) even when recording 1600p 2.35:1 Raw for 3 minutes.

@janoshsimon, I pressed it when the screen was black (out of frustration). The camera then went to show the picture I had loaded and then I got the welcome message!

Well shoot I can't load the firmware. It goes to the grey Canon "Firmware update program" screen with "Loading.." in the middle for 1 second then the screen turns black and quickly exits to the shooting info screen. I guess this means I have the older firmware. My 70D serial #062022010573. I purchased the Camera 8/12/2014 from B&H.

I did Java and C programming 15 years ago so might try to learn more and help out. Maybe some of us can make a new thread and start work on the port for earlier firmware as Nitfreak and others are going to be busy enough.

Mine did the same thing, I tried it a second time, half pressed the shutter button, and it worked. Maybe try this?

I took a look at some of the source, and noticed the problem @SML123 is showing with the raw file registration. That's just from borrowing the source code, all the aperture and ISO data is screwed up. I'm trying to learn and write/correct at the same time.

First off, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS NIKFREAK! I am a long time lurker, first time poster. I have been waiting so long for this release. Now that I've gotten that out of my system, time to state my case. First off, I too noticed that the audio tab was missing, would turning that off for RAW recording lower the necessary data rate? I am maxing at a continuous shooting of 756X1344 with a 60 mbps SD card (I know, it seems to really be maxing at around 40 mbps). Also, the frame rate is locked at 21.596 FPS, or am I reading that wrong? I'm new to magic lantern, but it seems to be the frame rate. Also, the ML menu exits out randomly, which is a bug to be expected. The list of specs, like the f stop and lens focus distance doesn't update effectively, the f-stop number never updates. Almost everything else works, though!

Other issues:
Other than the super short recording time for RAW above 720, which probably isn't a ML issue, this is great! The main reasons I wanted it were for zebras and RAW, but I can live with compression and a denoiser.
