QuoteCR2 out of the cam (with and without ML): Lossless compressed
DNG/MLV/RAW out of ML (produced by some ML features, not all of them): Uncompressed.

This thread is about enabling ML to produce lossless compressed output, too.
And compression means less bandwidth required writing to card.

QuoteFiles are 15-20% smaller and image previews load faster in lightroom. The disadvantage is some metadata is discarded and dng files don't play well with some non-adobe software. There's also an argument that dng files are more future proof, but since old dng files are different to new dng files, I don't buy that argument; I'm sure I'll still be able to access/convert cr2 files in 20 years if it becomes and issue.

Basically if you never intend to move outside of Adobe's ecosystem then it's a nice choice for saving some hard drive space. With modern hardware the speed advantage will be minimal for most people, and there's the risk if you move to capture one or dxo (say) in the future, you'll have issues with camera profiles and lens correction not working accurately (despite the format being semi-supported).

Well, i still don't get it... :(

Hi, can anyone explain what's going on here? Why do we need this? CR2 files are compressed? Lost smth? Not 14bit? Thank you and sorry for my lack of knowledge.

Hi,

Still no way to capture true 1080p raw? Only 21:9 crop variant?

Was there any attempt to solve moire issue on 6d? Make video more like it is on 5dmk3.

Hi, i read dual-iso.doc, and found this passage:

QuoteUnfortunately, most other Canon cameras follow a different pattern for the CMOS #0 register,
without any obviously duplicate fields. As we know from Canon specs, most cameras have
a 4-channel sensor readout, except for 5D Mark III and 7D which have a 8-channel readout.

So this dual-iso trick, which originally worked only on 5dmk3 and 7d because of 8bit, is now working on all cameras, how you did achieve this?

p.s. in usual, not magic lantern, camera usage is there any advantage of 8bit readout?

Hello, i'm not using ML, but i'm interested in it in future, just enlighten me in one thing:

What's the current status of dual-iso mode? I'm especially interested in it in photomode, Looks like easy way to take photos with enormous dynamic rage. Is it possible? Just with on button have CR2 which will have 100/1600iso shot?
