Would be great if this could be implemented in some way. Even a ballpark figure would be helpful. I use the Canon format menu to check space and that's a little dangerous, one small click from accidentally formatting my card.

Was there ever any update on this? I would prefer to only see the colored icon and record time. Don't need bitrate/idle time, why not just leave that stuff in debug? Is there a reason not to simply create a new icon/time option?

I spent a couple hours using the cards on a borrowed 5D3 (benchmarked, test shots, formatted in-camera) Maybe that has something to do with the change?

I just tried formatting on my computer using disk utility, but I still get high speeds. So something happened these last few days that made the cards read/write via USB3 reader at much higher rate.

When I said averaged 75MB/s, I mean that I tested with F3, SDSpeed, Blackmagic, and all were appx 75MB/s.

Using a 2012 13" MBP.

Update: was able to update the RDF8 firmware with a windows computer. Card speeds still averaged 75MB/s

But I borrowed a 5D3 from a friend, did a benchmark, and both cards were writing at about 90MB/s (mlv sound off) 86MB/s (mlv sound on). 24p. 1080p.

So testing card speed doesn't seem to be accurate via usb3 reader. And both komputerbay 128gb 1066x card are working great.

Disabled SIP and I still get "no device found"

I think I'll just try to find a different computer to update the reader.

The transcend update software doesn't seem to be working for me, I keep getting "no device found". I tried a different computer, same thing.

I'm on Mac 10.11, maybe there's a compatibility issue? I don't have access to any older OS macs.

I bought 2 Komputerbay 1066x 128gb cards. I will be working with a 5D3 (shooting raw), but don't have access to the camera yet so can't test with camera.

I'm on a mac and tried using F3 software to test speeds on the two cards. Got an average write speed of 75MB/s on both cards. I also tried the GUI version called "sdspeed", and the black magic disk speed test, all with the same results.

Are those the speeds I can expect in camera? If so I'll need to send them back, but I've heard the 1066x are usable for recording continuous 1080p MLV with sound.

I need to buy a couple CF cards and hard drives for an upcoming shoot in December, wondering if I can save a couple bucks.

Anyone know if there will be any black friday deals on CF cards? Looking to pick a couple up soon.

Question about the histogram: I like that zebra has a HIDE WHILE RECORDING feature. Is there any way to implement that for the histogram? Or do I have to turn global draw off? I like having the crop marks during filming and turning global draw off removes them.

Or maybe there is a separate way to keep crop marks on while global draw is off?

I just saw there is an AUTO ETTR module, any experience with that? I think I'd rather expose manually, but maybe it's helpful for getting an idea of exposure?

I also see there is a special histogram for RAW, not sure how it differs from the standard histogram. Gonna see if I can find more info on the forums.

I was asking about using sound just to help sync audio in post. Having some in camera sound would allow you to use software like pluraleyes to sync audio, rather than having to visually sync with clap. I'm just worried if having audio ON could affect the video recording in any way.

Hi, I've shot a handful of music videos in MLV format, and I've got the post-processing down. But I've got a few questions before jumping into the narrative format. (I'll be shooting on a 5D3)

Firstly, I'd like to purchase a couple CF cards, are 128gb 1066x Komputerbay cards a good choice? I've only used Lexar in the past and I read mixed things on Komputerbay, some people say they've never had problems. Budget is tight so looking for the best deal.

Secondly, I never realized that people expose differently for Raw. Is it generally the best idea to expose to the right? Expose brighter than usual? I wish I could experiment but I won't have the camera until a couple days before the shoot.

Thirdly, when shooting 1080p 24fps, I've never had any issues with corrupt files or pink frames or anything I read about on the forum. Have I just been lucky or are those issues more for non 5D3 cameras? Should I be checking all my footage dumps to make sure everything is coming out properly or can I rest easy and focus on the next shot?

And lastly, if anyone has experience shooting MLV in a narrative format, what issues did you run into? Did you record sound to help you sync in post? Or did you keep sound off and use a clap board?

Can't find any logs with MLVFS in the name. Is there any other way to create logs?

I read in the MLVFS sticky about splitting up the MLVs into smaller folders and this seems to be working. All of the MLVs together are about 100gb. So I split them into folders of about 25gb.

I've never had problems with MLVFS in the past but I guess this is the first time I'm trying to convert this many files at once.

Another note, some clips i can drag into the Resolve media pool, and they instantly appear. Others take up to several minutes to load. And I'm not seeing a correlation with file size. It seems random.

I converted some clips using MLVFS and Resolve to ProRes 422 without any problems.

I decided to go back and convert them to ProRes 4444XQ but now those same MLV files aren't loading right.

I can use MLVFS to create the CDNG folder, and I can view the individual DNG frames in finder.

But in Resolve, when I try to drag them into the media pool, there is a very long load time and then the clips are all black. It does retain their framerate, resolution, and length, but they're entirely black.

When I check back in finder for the CDNG files, it seems that MLVFS has quit working and they've been ejected.

Again these are the same MLV files that gave me no trouble before. Unfortunately I don't have any other MLV files to test.

I tried converting to CDNG with a Rawmagic and those CDNG files loaded fine in Resolve. Seems like this is an issue with MLVFS timing out?

I'm using the latest version of MLVFS and Resolve 11. Even tried Resolve 12 beta.

I've been shooting 1080p MLV with sound and never had any problems. Decided to try 60p. Tried different resolutions and frame rates. 48 and 60fps seemed to record fine at 1280x432 (720p after de-squeeze). I shot continuously without any skipped frames. Some shots lasted for several minutes. Absolutely no problems on the recording end.

After importing, several clips have random corrupted frames. I see some people repair these frames with hex editors but it is usually for clips that were split after 4GB limit was reached (repairing the footer). For me it occurs even on short 5 second clips.

Is it just too much processing or not enough card speed? Is there a fix?

Standard Workflow: MLV > MLVFS > Resolve > ProRes > FCPX

When I set FPS override to 1, 2, or 3 fps, I get a file that plays back at 23.98, a time-lapse, which is what I want.

But when I set it higher at 6 or 12 fps, I get a file that plays back at 6 or 12 fps.

But it only does this when I'm recording in MLV. When recording H264, the end file is always 23.98.

Workflow: Camera->MLVFS->Resolve->ProRes

@TequilaKez If you press C, it will process all the MLV files in the same folder as the one you loaded.

In MLRawViewer, is S-Log the best way to get the flattest color? From the clips I'm testing it always seems to be the least contrasty.

I'm thinking of filming an upcoming project in RAW on a 5D III. My workflow is editing and color correcting in FCPX. I've been testing with MLRawViewer and exporting ProRes and it's working fine.

My question is, if I'm going from RAW to ProRes and never going back to RAW or DNG, then is it worth it to film RAW at all? Will there be major benefits in quality and color depth? I know ProRes 4444 is better than H264, but enough to warrant the whole process and file sizes?

If anyone has a better workflow for FCPX, please let me know.
