General Help Q&A / 5D2 problem Err 06
December 09, 2013, 01:12:46 AM
I have a strange issue with my 5D3.  With no ML the camera appears to work perfectly.  As soon as I load ML 2.3 I get Err 06 - Self cleaning sensor unit malfunction.

Has anyone else come across this issue?

Please stop posting in multiple boards.  You need to go here and post your questions:

RAW video & ML -- Beginners Guide, FAQ & Useful Links -- READ FIRST
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5520.0

But .. before you ask the same question again, please read the manual, watch the video and also follow the first link to a tutorial on the manual.

Thanks for the links which sorted the problem for me.  I did however search the forums before posting and did not find these links, but I have just come across this post:

which explains the issue I have with removing the bootflag - at the moment it appears to be impossible.

Not sure where to post this.  I have been using Alpha3 without bootflag successfully.  I decided to try the RAW build but have problems installing.  I copied all the files as usual to the SD card, inserted into the camera and did a Firmware Upgrade as usual.  Upgrade continued through to "Enable Bootflag" and ":)".  After that nothing videowise or ML worked and when I looked at the card in the computer it was read only (card switch was at read/write).

I now have my 5D3 with bootflag enabled and reverted to Alpha 3 but with no way to remove the bootflag.

Questions:
1. Why is my SD card now read only?
2. How can I load RAW ML without this problem
3. How can I remove the Bootflag.

thanks

General Help Q&A / Re: SD card writing trouble
June 11, 2013, 08:12:38 PM
I am able to format the card using the Mac Disk utility.  However, I have tried again, with the exact same result.

This leaves me with another issue.  When I remove the SD card from the camera, I get a "Firmware update program - loading" on the screen. I put the Alpha 3 card in again, remove and reinsert battery, then "Firmware update" runs something for about 2 seconds then goes off.  I turn on the camera and it autoboots into ML.  This is fine, except I do want the option to be able to remove ML completely so I can use a non ML high capacity SD card for on occasion.

I can't format the later SD card in the camera after reformatting it in the Mac as it does not have a firmware update programme on it.  So, I am unable to kill the bootflag on the camera.

General Help Q&A / Re: SD card writing trouble

I have just downloaded the 9th June 5D3 nighly build.  I copied the files onto my SD card, put it in the camera and loaded the firmware.  After loading, the bootflag enable message came up followed by :).  I rebooted the camera but it did not autoboot into ML. I went through the procedure again, and this time I got an oops! message rather than a :) but again it did not reboot into ML.

I then put back the Alpha 3 version in the camera, with no autoexec.bin file on the card, and lo and behold it autobooted into ML.

I went back to try to change the June9th card and saw that there is now a ROM.DAT file on the card and the card is read only.

Now I would like to get rid of the autoboot, but as I cannot get the newer version loaded, I can't unload it though ML.  Any suggestions?

The green/gray boxes are the battery performance.
The number is the actually used battery from battery history table.
If you register your batteries there are 1-6 battery info in the battery history.
You can see the same info on Battery info menu, but you should navigate through the Canon menu system to see it.
I have 4 batteries and when I put one of them into the camera I can see right then which one is inserted.

I can't see a way of registering batteries within Canon menus.  How have you done this?

No stability issues.

Zebras - Luma Fast gives solid block of colour for over/under exposure which comes and goes at 1-2 sec intervals.

Focus Peaking - all methods seem to work well on low ISO's.  Raw focused best and quickest especially with Strong Edges (my preferred anyway).  Increasing ISO made it harder to focus especially using Sharpness.  Beyond ISO1250 it was impossible to focus.  Changing colour does not have any effect when Fine Dots are selected - in fact it only seems to work in Blinking Dots.

Histogram and waveform at the bottom only worked on 3:2 top/bottom mode. All other modes displayed at the side.  Did not move at all on my Marshall 5" monitor.

Gradual Exposure works extremely well.

Fast focus box moving works well.

Will test some more.
