When I bring in the folders into AE, it prompts me with ACR and shows me the changes I have already made in LR. I simply click "ok"
at each clip as they import. Other than that I have not used it.

In Lightroom though I can do lens profiles, clarity...sharpening, and curves. Also, color isolation and such. I am sure there are ways to do this in other programs but each time I have dived into others for grading, I wind up wishing that the controls would be like LR. Resolve was overwhelming too...especially on my 2010 Macbook Pro!

Once I grade, I simply drag the folders into AE and hit render. I am not tried the color processing via AE and at this point that is the only reason. I am working on getting a faster computer and then I am going to dive into AE head first. To summarize again:

MLV_Dump to DNG folder, Drag into LR, grade, save metadata, open AE and drag folder in, render to Proress422...It is quite fluent though there are a lot of small details along the way for keeping stuff organized.

With AE, you are suggesting one can drag the untouched folder of DNGs in and grade and render all within AE in one fell swoop?

With my process I have not seen any of this "flickering" from my 5DMK2 and the process I use. You can see the videos in the OP do not have flickering.

Also, again...the ability to color in LR is incredible. I can even reduce the noise very cleanly! I need to get together a demo reel soon and get some feedback. Thanks for all the input so far.

I do not export or convert them DNGs to anything and have not seen flickering or color change. After Effects is only used to put the DNG sequence (with LR settings saved as metadata) back into a video format. Lightroom is comfortable to me whereas I use After Effects for nothing else except what I have described. Of course I am looking to save a step or two with my workflow but I absolutely Love all the options via LR.

I began on this workflow over a year ago and have not changed since. I Love the control I get with Lightroom and while it is a ton of work, I am very happy with it.

MLV Dump > DNG Folder > Lightroom > Grade > Sync Metadata > After Effects back into video > Premiere for Audio Syncing

Is this totally insane?
I do this on a 2010 Macbook pro and it takes overnight to render sets sometimes. Here is a sample of what I am doing mostly:

The entire thing is shot in RAW but I usually do the intro scene in a more cinematic style!

Thank you SO much...I was searching but did not find anything conclusive!

Raw Video / 5D MK3 Audio level not adjustable like MK2?
February 04, 2016, 03:05:57 PM
I just recently got access to an MK3 to use in place of my own MK2. I use a Stereo mic and have dialed in a flow for in camera audio settings through the MK2 but the menu with the MK3 has not such custom settings for dB level. Am I missing something?

Generally I am running the latest Nightly build on the MK2, so that is what I did on the MK3 as well (currently on Dec 20th 2015). Please advise! Thanks

Here is the first cinematic style short I have ever done. The entire thing was shot in raw at 1792x1008 and up-scaled to 1080. Conditions were not perfect and I wish I would have shot some shots differently but I am totally thrilled with how it turned out! Found music that was perfect for this kind of video.

I am using the DNG to Lightroom coloring process and then rendering in After Effects...it is a pain but I love the control I get over color!

Let me know what you guys think!

Share Your Videos / 5D2 RAW vs H264 Comparison - Short
September 07, 2014, 05:52:59 PM
Yet another comparison. In this case I actually tried to give the H.264 an advantage. I filmed both and then matched the raw's WB, Temp and colors to the H.264. Then I actually sharpened the H.264 in Premiere to get it close. Still does not appear to hold up!

Notice the shirt and how the detail is lost around my chest hair :-)

Here is a video I filmed and edited of my mom and step dads time visiting me in Kauai. I've been here for eight months a a they decided to come over and visit for a couple weeks.

Stellar video man! You really got the Glidecam rocking...I need to work on that myself.

That is great! Good job...and IQ is excellent!

What card were you using? Can you elaborate on the bitrate and more details on that please? Thank you so much. It looks awesome!

Finally got one that I am excited about...editing skills are not great but I got the color done well. This was an improv moment where I told her to walk out into the field and she did!

It certainly is a small island...not quite that small though :-)

Well...I'm currently in Hawaii on the island of Kauai, which is where this video was done. Kauai is a Dingo free environment!

I recently acquired a Canon 5D Mkii DSLR...learned that I could hack it and get better video quality from it. Since I needed a subject for a video, I decided I would do a setup video for my hammock. The focus was not to be a "review" as that would have required much more planning on content. This was mostly for video and editing, but Hopefully it will give someone some insight on the Warbonnet Blackbird as well as the camera gear and ML capabilities!

All of my testing so far has been with rebuild .RAW format. I am now using MLV and will post more. So far it freaks out and crashes the card as I approach the 128GB mark. I Hope to do most testing soon; let me know if there is something something specific you'd like to see.
#22
I've tried an in camera format before and it just hung for 15 minutes or so. I had to remove the battery to get it to turn off. This is with or without ML installed. As for the 256gb, I believe it is correct as along the way somewhere it wanted to make the card 128gb and it took me a while to repair it to the full 256GB. I'll have to max the card out and see if it stops at 128GB.

As title says, I've got a this card from a friend to use and can run a series of tests and post results if this has not been done already. I am fairly new to Magic Lantern but if you outline what you'd like for me to test, I can do it!

That was a comparison from the camera in standard 24fps and then RAW.
Workflow:
- Convert RAW to DNG files via Rawmagic Lite
- Color corrections via Lightroom
- Sync Metadata via Lightroom
- Import Folder into After Affects and Render to Prores4444
- Edit clips together via Premiere.

I am just now learning video editing so it is a work in progress. Still waiting on ND filter to arrive as well so I was limited to an overcast day for shooting.
