Hey guys,
After some googling and reading the ML forum I still have the following issue:

Just bought a FEELWORLD F6 5.7inch IPS 1080P and want to use it as a field monitor for my canon 5dm3.
I am using the Canon Firmware Version 1.2.3 and latest magic lantern build for RAW recording.

Now I have the funny issue that the video signal always switches back to 480p after a few seconds on the monitor.
If I open up the canon menu on the camera HDMI signal switches to 1080i 50 hz.
When I go back to liveview the signal stays 1080 for a couple of seconds looks great and the goes back to 480p which is unusable...

I played around with mirroring on/off and video mode PAL/NTSC.
I managed to get a 1080 clean signal on the monitor but then I do not see any menus, histograms etc...

Are there any restrictions I need to be aware of?

Raw Video / Crop mode questions
October 07, 2016, 12:33:50 PM
Hey there,
I searched the forum but didn't find the answers yet. Altough I'm pretty sure they are in the depths of this forum.... Some help is appreciated  :)

  • Can I only go beyond 1920 resolution in cropped mode on the 5Dm3? I understand that in video mode canon only uses couple of pixels on the sensor to get the 1920 and in cropped mode ML uses more pixels (with manual selection?). As far as I understand this affects the focal length? So there is no way to film in 2k or higher using the original focal lenght of the lens? Is it possible to have the full frame in liveview?
  • If I hit the magnify button I get the 5x liveview in gray with shitty resolution. If I press and hold the star button it is in color with ok resolution while holding. In 10x it is fine again. Can someone explain this behaviour?

Sorry this crop mode still confuses me :)

Do you mean on the cam? Or what exposure?

I did a retest with 1/50s shutter time. First one was 1/800.
It seems a bit better. But still, what do you think?

Guys,

Can I have some opinions here? Here's a quick test movie filmed with a wideangle lens on the 5D.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2s5Zdqufgk4UWN5bkdUWFJPQzQ

I recorded this in RAW 25FPS and imported to Davinci Resolve. Used BMD mode Hunter 3D LUT.
I then exported to TIFF 8 bit image sequence and imported into Sony Vegas to export to MP4 (Sony AVC codec).
I specifically turned off any resampling features from Vegas.

However, if I look at the results, it just doesn't look fluent and very low FPS-like.
It this just me? Or is this just normal for 25 FPS? Can I record 30FPS in RAW, would this help?

Thanks guys

Ok tested on win10 with davinci resolve. Works well.

Thank you! This is brilliant!!

cool, sounds great!

However, AMD processor tz tz tz tz  :)

yeah I do have a SSD. I will test this on my win10 machine with *wonder wonder* including a Intel CPU  8)

@reddeercity thanks for the hint, did you test this on win10?

I assume, BSOD mean Blue Screen Of Death...  ;)

@dmilligan thanks for your reply: HM, ok I see.
I guess the bottom line is - since I am now running win10 and the win version of the mounting scripts are more than a year old it's not an option anymore for us windows users.

have you heard of any plans to update the mounting sw?
#14
@dmilligan: great work and cool idea to mount and use the stuff on-the-fly

Do you know how far behind the windows version is?
Has someone actually tested this on windows with Davinci Resolve?
#15
Just checked, it crashes with one single DNG File....
I don't understand that.

I used the mlvConverter:
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=10198.0

scarluuk which one do you use??

Just tried another converter MLVMystic_v0.3

It always crashed with any clip. I tried with resolve 9 as well. My PC is win7 and 4 years old, so I tried another PC with win8 and new hardware with resolve 10 lite. Crashed as soon as I want to open a DNG sequence.
#17
Hi guys,

I have the same problem! As soon as I import DNG sequence (used MLV module)  resolve lite 10 crashes!
Is it possible that the DNG Converter writes files, which messes up resolve?
Opening the DNG ins Adobe Camera Raw works just fine.

Any hints what to do or how to figure out the problem?

What temperature is critical for the sensor? Is 44C already worrying or not? I really don't have any references.

-> Some technical facts

Ok so the MLV is the newer format with more features/info. So it hasn't yet merged into the 1.2.3 version? Or can you select the format?
thanks

hi there,
thank you for the new build. it's nice to see, that some people invest so much time into this and we can profit from it!

just switched from 1.1.3 to 1.2.3

after a quick test I have now .RAW files instead of .MLV files

Could someone tell me why and what the difference between these formats is?

thanks guys
