How do I fix this?

Format the card in your computer, then format the card in your camera, then restart your computer.
I just had the same problem, this worked for me.

Yes, this also worked for me. I was able to instal ML and copy files from the card to my computer using the UDMA-7 card reader.

Problem solved: thank you both.

False assumption.
Make sure to use an UDMA-7 compatible cardreader.

No, this isn't working.

General Chat / Computer doesn't recognise CF-card
August 07, 2016, 07:39:07 PM
My computer doesn't recognise my Lexar 16GB 1066x CompactFlash card. It doesn't show up or is unable to read it. Very strange beacuse another card, SanDisk 16GB 50MBs, DOES show up and works fine.

Is the Lexar card too fast for my computer (Windows 7 64bit)? I searched the internet for a solution but there isn't one.

Is there someone who had this same problem and knows how to fix it?

Can't find any downloads for Magic Lantern on the website. Only Nightly Builds. Am I missing out on something?

I am thinking of buying this camera. How long can you record RAW with 50fps and 60fps at a resolution of 1280x720?

Here's a good thread to refer to for high fps times and combinations-

Okay thanks.

Thinking of upgrading from the 550D to the 7D. How long can you record in RAW at 1280x544 at 50fps and at 1280x720 in 50fps?

General Chat / What kind of film grain is this?
April 18, 2015, 01:01:30 PM
Does someone know what kind of film grain is used in this video:

It has little white dots/sparkels flying around, which looks really nice.

Raw Video Postprocessing / Can't extract DNG's
March 15, 2015, 08:23:37 AM
Some of the footage I shot in RAW was early stopped, but now I can't extract those DNG's. It was shot in 50fps. When I shoot in 24fps it is possible to extract DNG's from early stop files but with these nothing happens.

Is there a way to extract these to DNG because I need them badly. I use raw2dng converter.

Those are corrupt/pink frames, which happens to everyone once in a while. Nothing to really get worried about. Search on this forum how to minimize those frames.

No, it works better without Global Draw turned off. I'll use the grid from the Canon menu instead. ;)

Load RAW_REC.mo only and try recording with Global draw turned off.

Yes, this works much better. No corrupt or skipped frames. The only thing I miss now is the cropmarks, which are very useful to compose your shots. Oh well.

Thanks!

Delete ML directory and Autoexec.bin from card. Copy extracted nightly contents to card and try again. Report results.

Did what you said but it's skipped and corrupt frames GALORE. I haven't been able to record anything without having skipped/corrupt frames.

Just installed the latest Nightly Build for the 550D. I keep getting this message: "1 skipped" , even when there isn't a frame skipped. Is this a (known) bug ?

Furthermore I do actually have more skipped/corrupt frames than with the older version of nightly build (installed about a year ago). :(

Can you help me choosing the best settings for shooting a video on the Canon 550D with Magic Lantern?  :)

Yes, I have the 550D as wel so this is how I do it:

1.) In your Canon menu choose "Movie Rec. Siz 1920x1080 24fps"
2.) You can use Raw Video (MLV) but I always use the RAW Video (it's underneath MLV)
3.) Choose in the RAW Video menu the Aspect Ratio and set it to 2.35:1
4.) Set your Resolution to 1280x544

Now you can record in HD and film about 10 to 12 seconds of footage each time. It sounds short but if you plan your shots and know what you want to film it's long enough. You can play with the aspect ratios/resolutions to see which size you like best. The smaller your resolutions the longer you can film.

You can't record at 1728x972: the resolution is too big for the 550D unfortunately. Try a smaller resolution instead. The bigger the resolution the shorter your recording time will be.

The 550d can't write faster than 20mb/s, so buying a faster card like 70mb/s won't help a bit. :(

Post-processing Workflow / Re: Downscaling your footage
December 29, 2014, 02:33:51 PM
Alright.

I did a little test just now and the higher resolution (1728x736) has more detail than the smaller resolution (1280x544) - even when downscaled . :D

Post-processing Workflow / Downscaling your footage
December 29, 2014, 11:44:35 AM
If you record in -say-1728x736 and put in a 1280x720 timeline (so you downscale your footage), will this still give higher quality footage than when you record it in 1280x544?

So in other words: is it worth recording as big as possible even if you downscale your footage afterwards?

The color grading is great. Which LUT did you use and which software did you use for further grading?

General Chat / Re: Best way for slow motion
December 13, 2014, 03:36:16 PM
Thanks for the fast reply.

It's not possible to use 60fps on the 550D with Magic Lantern unfortunatly: it will give  me only 1 second to record in 1280x334, which is too short. That's why I will use 50fps so it will give 3 seconds of footage.

I know twixtor but the results aren't always that great (ghosting).

[edit] Oh, it isn't twixtor I see, i'll check it out, thanks.

General Chat / Best way for slow motion
December 13, 2014, 03:24:40 PM
I have a videoshoot with a model coming up soon so hopefully someone will reply.

All the shots will be filmed in 50fps and i want it slowed down to 50% to give it a "dreamy" feeling. Can I achieve this by putting the 50fps footage in a 24fps timeline? What is the best way to get a little slow motion ? I am using After Effects btw.

Second question: when filming with 50fps or 60fps in tungsten light it gives flickering. I will shoot a lot under tungsten light so how can I use slow motion without flickering? A low shutter speed perhaps?

Thanks!
