no new bug to report but additional evidence for crashes commented on posts above:

1. unable to extract several mlvs together, always crashes
2. individual files, sometimes works, sometimes crashes (when it stops, it has already created the extract folder with the first 4-5 DNGs already extracted)

I'm on windows 8 (not 8.1) with mlvs coming from 5D2

pink in highlights as in previous versions (at least for me), only visible in premiere pro, not in ACR or Resolve

thanks for your work

Please read the Dual ISO white paper to understand why it only works on a few camera models.

I'm not too good at very technical stuff, but from what I can see in this doc http://acoutts.com/a1ex/dual_iso.pdf, nothing is said about dual ISO for video vs photography, and Dual ISO does work in picture mode for the 5D2.

Hi,

I understand Dual ISO RAW video is yet to be ported to 5D2, right?

Any alternative idea for raw video in situations where dual iso video would apply? will dual iso video ever be ported to 5D2 or is there any physical/technical limit?

Thanks

just ve seen it :) fixed.

@melimelo
(1) i didnt recognised any disadvantages on 12bit versus 16bit. primarily i left the 16bit because of acr and resolve-users. and some, saying, its a disadvantage by numbers :)
(2) will look deeper on that.

Thanks for your extremely quick reply...have downloaded the new version, I guess this native feature must be a big improvement (as I've read you've been working on this for quite long) but could you elaborate for "illiterates" like me what are the main improvements/advantages of this version of this vs previous versions? Thanks!

PS: the only thing I may add is that in the new version the default tif model tage still says version 1.4.9.3...not much help but that is the most I can contribute ;-)

I'm a total newbie so my questions may be quite simple but have a few doubts about the raw2cdng workflow and quality implications:

1. To edit directly in PPro (with no pink cast) I just extract the cdngs setting bitdepth at 12/linear as I hve read in chmee's blog. Everything goes smoothly but my question is: is there any quality loss vs extracting at 16 bit and then grading in resolve and sending back to premiere via xml for edit and back to resolve for export (or using the 16 bit extract at ACR)? (I'm not a pro in any way, so the quality I get with the 12/linear export in PPro is more than enough for me...but just wanted to know...)

2. When I open the CDNG sequence in premiere for color grading I use the speedgrade direct link but when I've triedto color in resolve (via xml from PPro) I get the problem that the CDNGs have embeded a 24fps frame rate. In premiere I just interpret footage as whatever it actually is (i.e. 25fps) and sequence is adjusted accordingly. But if I export that 25fps sequence as xml, Resolve just does not import the clips as it says the clips do not match the sequence timecode (I guess the dngs have a fixed 24 fps timecode embedded). ANything I'm doing wrong? If not, how can I change that "internal" fixed 24 fps setting?

Thanks

First, I am no tech expert in any form, therefore my apologies in advance if my questions are just too simple or even pointless...

I've read many many threads on thisd topic but still have sooooo many doubts. As for anyone my objectives with MLV post processing are 2, quality and speed.

My workflow now is as follows:

1. Convert .mlv (shot with 5d Mark II) to raw + wav with MLV browser
2. Convert raw to cinema dng with raw2cdng
3. Open image sequence in After Effects, adjusted and coloured with Camera Raw, and create comps straight from those sequences
4. Open PPro and import comps from After Effects through Dynamic Link
5. Edit in PPro and export

Doubts and questions:

1. I am using CDNG instead of directly DNG because I've realised that if I need to render in Premiere for easier editing, CDNG sequences are 2-3x faster (10x length of clip vs 20-25x with DNG). Is this because Premiere natively supports CDNG?
2. Do I lose any quality while importing the AE comps into PPro thru the dynamic link the way I do it?
3. Editing in Premiere without rendering is a bit of a pain, but at 1/4 resolution and with no added effects, I can sort of do very simple stuff (my PC has an 8 core  4770K overclocked at 4.6Mhz + 32Gb RAM and a decent Nvidia Geforce GTX 770). But if I need to do any fancier edit or add any effect, then rendering is required, and it takes what in my opinion is way too long (at least 10x the length of the sequence). Anything I am missing to speed this up? Anything similar to those proxies that I have read that can be created with Resolve (which I have never used)?
4. For coloouring and other adjustments I just use ACR....am I missing some big quality improvement by not trying to use SpeedGrade or Resolve? What improvements over ACR?
5. In summary, am I doing anything right or should I just change all my workflow? Is it real that plug-in I have read in one thread that will allow to natively import and edit and export MLVs into Ppro for $100?

Thanks for your help!!!!

General Help Q&A / Problem with FPS override
February 21, 2014, 06:25:53 PM
When I use FPS override for 5d Mark II (at low fps, 2 or lower), it does not work properly with MLV video as frame number 2 is repetated every other time during the recording. I've searched in the forums and found two answers: a) do not use 10x zoom (which I do not), b) reinstall ML.

Should I just reinstall? I'm using nightly build from January 14, 2014. Which nightly build is working pretty much stable? Thanks

Still getting used to ML and questions/doubts keep coming...fortunately, the answer is almost always available in this forum... :-)

But one thing I have not found the answer to is the following:

I like to have ETTR always easily available (but not always on or auto snap) and therefore have set ETTR to "press set" (HalfShutter DC is either too "difficult for me" or not very smooth!!!)

However, when in Live View movie mode, set button is also used (at least in the 5D mark II) to start/stop video recording.  Therefore when set is pressed, ETTR does its magic but there is no way to record video.

So I figured that I could use the REC key feature to start/stop video. When I tried that configuration (rec key "ON" and ETTR "Set Button"), and half pressed  the shutter in Live View, instead of starting video, ettr sort of started to launch, then camera sort of freezes for miliseconds, then live view goes off and normal photo mode turns on...

Anything i'm doing wrong? any other way to have ettr "available" (not always on or autosnap) but at the same time being able to record video???

Thanks for your extremely fast response!!!

I will install the January 6 nightly build, though the one I'm using is from jan 27!!!!

by the way this also happens with mlv... not only with raw_rec

Hi,

I'm pretty new to Magic Lantern but gotta say I really love it. Outstanding work by all developers, and so grateful you decided to do this open source!

I have a 5D Mark II with ML v2.3 and nightly builds from a week ago.

When I try to record raw video,  I just enable the raw video from the raw_rec module and turn it on on the Video tab. No other video feature on. Go to Live View press set and then Canon's H264 launches. If I press set again raw video starts but H264 keeps recording simultaneously. When pressed set once more, raw video stops but h264 still on. Only way to stop H264 is to get out of live view.

I'm pretty sure there is some simple answer to this as I must be doing something wrong. Anyone can help? Thanks

PS: I've seen many threads regarding MLV (gotta recognise have not read them all...sorry). In short: any significant quality difference (advantage to use) vs the raw video from the raw_rec module? thanks again!
