Camera-specific Development / Re: Canon 550D / T2i
February 06, 2015, 11:52:20 AM
Hi! I've successfully installed and updated ML on 5D2/5D3 and I think I'm quite familiar with the procedure, but now trying to install ML on T2i for my son to have a play with :) and run into a problem.
When going to update the firmware, T2i finds the .fir file fine, displays "Loading" and then the display goes blank, that's it, the only thing is happening I get intermittent red light showing activity, but nothing happens? Tried few times, waited several minutes, no joy? The only thing to get out of that state is to take the battery out.

Anyone experienced something similar?

Thanks

General Help Q&A / Mark 5D3 1.2.3 Rack Focus
July 29, 2014, 03:58:40 PM
Hi! I've both 5D2 and 5D3, Rack Focus works ok but on 5D3 I'm not able to record it? When I press the SET button it does rack focus in Live View, but if I try to press START/STOP for recording video with the rack focus it just jumps back to the ML Menu? On 5D2 all works fine since there's no dedicated video record button, so SET triggers both.
I don't use this feature much, but I'm pretty sure I had it working with ML 1.1.3 firmware version...

Am I missing a step or something with the 5D3?

Thanks

@Andy600 re: dark footage and clipping highlights.
This is very interesting since I've been struggling to get decent exposure when shooting RAW. I'm on my 3rd camera at the mo for different reasons, I tried 60D, 5D2 and now got 5D3, and sort of expected the footage to improve somewhat exposure and noise wise, because I normally shoot in low light conditions. I usually use metering in still photo mode (spot or partial) and then use the readings in video mode, but the RAW footage more often than not comes out underexposed. I looked at histograms, waveforms and all sorts, obviously trying not to clip anything, that's how I understand good exposure? However, I find myself pushing exposure up in ACR and then deal with the consequent artefacts. I do get ok results and accepted this as a workflow, but wasn't really happy and often thought it's my inexperience in the field that's causing this. Now I stumbled across your post. If i understood correctly, you suggest to overexpose in camera, especially if converting the footage to Visionlog or your Cinelog later, to get as much info in the mids and try to recover highlights afterwards?
Thanks

General Help Q&A / Flickering pixels
February 04, 2014, 09:47:47 PM
Hi!
I've been processing DNG's in Lightroom 5, importing TIFFs into FCPX and rendering ProRes clips. I'm getting this odd artefact, not sure how best to describe it, but it's like sparkly flickering "dancing" bright pixels around the edges of objects? It'd be difficult to see on a web stream and it's not immediately noticeable, they are tiny, but it's there and mainly when moving the camera, pan, tilt or slide.
I searched the forum, but most talk about flickering is to do with exposure changes between frames, I couldn't find anything describing this sort of thing?
As you probably realised English is not my first language :) so, I  might be using wrong keywords to find or describe the problem.

Does anyone know what's causing it and how to fix it?

Many thanks

Duplicate Questions / Re: canon firmware 1.1.3 help

It just might save time to someone, since I was looking for OSX download version, there was v113.mac.dmg version somewhere I recall, but eos5d3-v113-win.zip unzips ok on a Mac from here http://pel.hu/eoscard/ and then it's all FAT anyways.
