Hello Extremelypoorfilmaker,

Have you taken a look at Alan Besedin's "Vintage Lenses for Video" Youtube channel? He has been releasing some videos about anamorphic lenses lately.

https://www.youtube.com/user/alanbesedin

I have also made my own anamorphic adapter out of cardboard and love the look of it but I don't have any experience with real anamorphic lenses.
I hope this information proves helpful.

Good luck to you,
Robby

Feature Requests / Re: Request: h264 GOP control in ML
January 06, 2015, 02:39:06 AM
I agree! It would be awesome to have more control over the bitrate like that old tragic lantern build for the 600d. The only reason that I don't use that old build is because of new features like dual iso (for photos), ettr and mlvraw video. I would be nice to have all of these features combined!  :)

Maybe it has something to do with the color space you are working in? I assume you are using After effects. What are your export settings?

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: Resolve 11.1b color problem
September 15, 2014, 04:15:35 AM
That's strange... Only some of the frames are like this? It looks like the frame with the lines is desaturating everything else but the skin tones... I've never used resolve but is there a skin tone overlay in Resolve like in Colorista 2? It looks similar to that...
Hope this helped

You have to install one of the nightly builds found here http://builds.magiclantern.fm/#/ in order to have raw recording. Stable 2.3 was before raw was available.
Enjoy  :)

When you go into the FPS Override Menu is it set for Low light, exact fps, high fps? I use exact fps and can change the shutter speed freely whereas with low light it overrides the shutter.
Hope this helped.

www.apefos.com is the new purchase place. I did not realize that the indiegogo page was taken down.

Shoot Preparation / Cook Picture Styles
March 15, 2014, 07:00:26 AM
Just ran across a set of these new picture styles on www.apefos.com and figured I'd give them a share. These PS incorporate an "in-camera grade" to maximize dynamic range out of the camera without a flat image. They are also said to keep low noise, real world colors, minimize gradient banding and best of all there is no need for post production! So far the Cook picture styles have been tested on a 600d and 5d mark iii with Magic Lantern.

If your interested, give them a look:

Happy shooting!

GoPro videos usually look sharper because they use heavy in-camera sharpening. In "Protune" mode the sharpening is reduced so you should see a difference between the standard video and "protune" mode. The gopro is also a constant aperture fisheye that is focused to infinity and has a HUGE depth of field, thus causing (almost) everything to be in focus.

Make sure that if you do use sRaw that you change the setting back to a normal pic setting (raw, large fine, etc...) before you switch to a newer nightly build. If you don't switch the setting back then you will not be able to change the pic size setting with the newer nightly... You will have to re-install a tragic lantern build in order to switch the pic size setting back to normal.

Tragic Lantern / Re: 600D/T3i Raw Video
February 01, 2014, 05:07:25 AM
Unfortunately only 960 x 544 is possible continuously with the 600d  :(. 1280 x 720 only records ~100 frames.

Here is a video shot with Raw on the 600d.
Raw is very easy to grade but I feel that you should try it out in some tests before shooting a short with it...

Feature Requests / Re: [IMPOSSIBLE] dual ISO H.264
February 01, 2014, 04:33:03 AM
This thread seems to have died but I have been playing around with Apefos' workflow for Dual Iso h.264

I tried in the Apefos Dual Iso software and these are my results, the image recorded in dual iso and the image after processing in the software and merged in the hdr software.

The Apefos Dual Iso works with JPG, BMP and TIF files. You need to convert the MOV video into a image sequence before using the software.
The software automaticaly batch process all images in the directory, it opens the image, apply the luminance factor numbers to correct the luminance for each line and extracts the low iso and the hi iso lines. After this the software interpolates the low and high iso image separately to recreate the missing lines. With these two recreated images you need to use a hdr software to merge the two images into a single hdr image because the Apefos software does not do the merge.

Apefos is using the most simple interpolation method, an average value from the pixel above and below. this simple interpolation method does not removes the aliasing. he also says in the to-do txt file he created a conversion for eliminate the 2 and 3 lines interval to make the image to be 2 lines interval, the same of dual iso raw, but this is not implemented in the beta software yet.

Another thing that is not perfect is the luminance correction in the lines. He is using 32 values, so some areas of the image keeps with some lines strip. In the to do txt file he says he already calculated 946 luminance correction numbers, but this is not implemented in the software yet.

The results are not satisfactory for use, but the software is in a interesting stage.

Apefos is still working hard on perfecting this workflow.  :)

I just had this problem a couple of days ago as well...

http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=9816.msg94468#msg94468

You have to install an older build that has the resolution hack. I did NewMem (Tragic Lantern 2.0).
Then you should be able to change the resolution through the Magic Lantern Menu. Set the resolution to anything but sRaw/mRaw.
It should work after that...

Hope this helped =)

Just another question, does sRaw do anything for raw video/ mlv anymore?
Now I'm afraid of using it... ;D

I loaded the newMem version of tragic lantern, changed the resolution in the ML menu to Largefine and now the resolution is changing in Movie mode =) I will manual mode now...

Now it works...

Thanks 1%! You saved me from a big head-ache...

Thank you again, =)

Tragic Lantern / 600d Not allowing Resolution change...
January 04, 2014, 11:02:25 PM
I have the nightly build magiclantern-v2.3.NEXT.2013Dec26.600D102 installed on my camera. It worked fine for a while but now I can't change the resolution settings either in ML or in the custom canon menu... :'(

I have tried changing the firmware to the stable v2.3 build, a tragic lantern build and uninstalling the firmware, but the resolution setting stays showing the fine symbol and nothing else in terms of resolution settings. If I try to access the 'quality' tab through the canon menu it says quality at the top, then a pink box with '[     ]' then an orange box underneath that... there are no options at all...

I think about a week ago I set the resolution in the ML menu to sRaw if that means anything...

I tried changing the settings through live view. In live view I can see the different settings, large, raw, etc... but it won't let me select any of them.

Please If anyone has any ideas, it would be great. I am kinda freaking out... :'(

Thanks for the help,
Rob

Oh... I didn't realize that... that is a problem.

I think I found something though:

http://nanomad.magiclantern.fm/650D/

http://nanomad.magiclantern.fm/650D/magiclantern-v2.3.NEXT.2013Aug03.650D104.zip

That should take the place of the 2.3 stable, it appears to have all the necessary folders.

Good luck,
Rob
