FYI, let me assure that I'm not discouraging anyone to stop this project but I have done this awhile ago. The technology advancement of memory cards today are faster or equal that of the SSD drive; pushing to achieve the goal of Compact Flash-to-IDE or Compact Flash-to-SATA requires amount of time . I hope you succeed. Here's link to an initial step I did back then:

"Your collection of PATA -> SATA chips is nice.
But, you still need active conversion from the non-True-IDE CF to True-IDE mode.

Does anybody, by any chance, know which CF-mode the host controller uses? That seems like the fundamental challenge people fail at figuring out here."

True-IDE mode. And after all that, you still need help from the ML developer for some firmware changes.

"anyone have updated information of the project?
I found this adapter that does exactly the opposite

That's nothing new.

one of my friends said that some of he's firends shot a bullet for the new year day last year but they did it in the wrong way... what does it mean? this gun was "Blank shots gun" (the same king of bullet that I need to record in the next days)  they shot with the window closed. after that shot they where deaf for 3-4 days.
Do you have any idea if for high end production sound designers uses special protection for very loud sounds (for them and for theyr microphones I mean)?
Foley complements or replaces sound recorded on set at the time of the filming (known as field recording). The soundscape of most films uses a combination of both. A Foley artist is the person who creates this sound art. Foley artists use creativity to make viewers believe that the sound effects are actually real. The viewers should not be able to realize that the sound was not actually part of the filming process itself. Foley sounds are added to the film in post production after the film has been shot. The need for replacing or enhancing sounds in a film production arises from the fact that, very often, the original sounds captured during shooting are obstructed by noise or are not convincing enough to underscore the visual effect or action. For example, fist-fighting scenes in an action movie are usually staged by the stunt actors and therefore do not have the actual sounds of blows landing. Crashes and explosions are often added or enhanced at the post-production stage. The desired effect is to add back to the original soundtrack the sounds that were intended to be excluded during recording. By excluding these sounds during field recording, and then adding them back into the soundtrack during post-production, the editors have complete control over how each noise sounds, its quality, and the relative volume. Foley effects add depth and realism to the audio quality for multimedia sources, and simplify the synchronizing of sounds that would otherwise be tedious or downright impossible to manage.

Read about it at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foley_(filmmaking)

Tons information/resources available on the web, if you know how to google and do a simple search, you'll find what you're looking for.

Audio dub the gunshot sound in post processing. There are gun sound effects around for free. My "two-cents" advice.

I agree totally  :)

If I change the export options to dng, I get a different message saying:

~ Already treated ~
The file _UAL1916.CR2 has already converted to dual iso

No converted file exists, and I have tried playing around with different naming options. All there is in the folder is the original CR2 and a txt file generated by cr2hdr when I try to export

I have LR 5.3 installed on a Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.2. On Export window:
File Naming/Rename To[Custom Settings]/Extensions[Lowercase]
File Settings/Image Format[Original]

This is the default setting for the Export To: Magic Lantern/cr2hdr, nothing else to do except leave the imported filename as the original as in: IMG_nnnn-dualiso.cr2.

It should work.

I meant to say "Are they updated in cases where there is new or added ML feature or functionality?". I'm just saying....

Why such an old build?

Thanks Audionut, that matrix helps me to understand the features on Nightly Build. Are they updated in cases where new features for a camera?
I'll try and download/test the latest build.

Thanks again> :))

I'm using Nightly Build Feb-2014-02-18. Question: Does Dual ISO works on 60D?

Thanks.

Yes that's the Lexar 800x, but according the OP the 8-32gb cards max out at 45mbps, while strangely enough all the 600x cards can write at 90mbps. I need at least 70mpbs to record 24fps on the 50D, so 800x won't cut it unless I buy the 64gb, which is $120. That's why this 8GB 600x looks such a good deal.

"That's why this 8GB 600x looks such a good deal." Based on industry standard, 600x should give you 90MB/s speed, normally that is the read speed. Check the manufacturer's specification and manufacturers (believe it or not) are out of spec. on speed rating.

if you installed ML on your Dolgix 128GB CF (600x) and based on the spec: http://www.amazon.com/Dolgix-128GB-Professional-Blaze6C-Compact/dp/B00AXRQYUU/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Don't be surprise if you had a average write speed of 82mb/s. A 600x rating on memory cards simply:
"This reflects how much faster the card is than (believe it or not) a standard CD-ROM drive with a transfer speed of 150KB/sec; a rating of 66x or above would thus be equivalent to class 10. A 200x rating would imply a transfer rate of 30MB/sec. So, in your case (600x), is 600 times 150kb/s = 90MB/s; no surprise at all from your result:-)

I think Blackmagic is ushering in the end of the DSLR era much faster than one would have thought possible. While there will always be demand for cameras which can both shoot stills and video, I doubt DSLR's have much life left in them in the pro and semi-pro arena, particularly for independent feature work.

As much as I am a fan of ML raw, I have to say that having just gone through the process of using them in a fairly involved shoot, I'm not sure I'd do it again if I had a choice to use a BMCC. Now that 4K is going to be available at a 5D3 price point or less, the argument for using DSLR's becomes even less persuasive.

I suspect NAB will bring some additional surprises that will put the final nails in that coffin.

P.S.

I also suspect that Canon will not have anything particularly exciting to announce, and if they do it will be priced well beyond the independent filmmaker's financial range.

I agree that the direction to the future is 4K but don't count Canon out. We really can't predict the future, just saying:-)

For ten days they add new features, then for the rest of the month they fix things. ... Be sure to read the following pages before trying these out: ... You could expect breakage when running which can be downloaded from here. Nightly Builds. Nightly Builds are made on a daily basis and contain the most recent changes.

I forgive you; you're new to ML. Hang in there, in time you'll see how great ML is!

I was thinking completely getting rid of the digic  processor and the buffer memory with a miniITX PC running i7 and that would either directly control the sensor and the lens system or emulate the canon motherboard hardware completely.

This will require an interface for the PC to work with the canon hardware and it can be canon firmware free (which justifies the earlier name canon mark free XD).And all this to record on high frames rates on RAID SSDs.

Cool idea and it can be done I'm sure but it's just...reinventing the wheel. I wish you lots of time. Good luck!

It's educational. I might just try to build one myself.

The "2x 10cm Rope Pulley wheels KBS100K10v - http://www.wielen-bandenhuis.nl/groef..." link is broken.

Thanks.

I think the Leadership, the Master cannot discourage the padawans without showing a proof that things will not work.

In this moment, the Leadership, the Master, just have a theory that things will not work, not an experiment, a real proof.

And me, the padawan, I already found the waves behavior and I have an algorithm that worked in the first lines reconstruction test, so I have the first proof that things can work.

So, due to this, I believe that the discouraging behavior of the Leadership, the Master, is a disrespect to me and to all padawans, because if we are in an open source environment, we all have the rights of doing our attempts.

Yes, me, myself, as a padawan, I lost my temper, my bad. But me, myself, as a padawan, I do not need to endure the disrespect from the Leadership, the Master, discouraging me and all the others without any proof.

Probably you all are waiting for me to say sorry. So, I say sorry, many times as needed. But respect my attempts, do not say impossible without any proof, stop discouraging all the people who are willing to help this development.

All I am saying "Give peace a chance!"

;-)

The next generation of SD cards for 4K videos are here:

But of course, we have to wait for the new cameras that will offer the functionality.
