I mentioned workstation which is the original setup.
No, I am not interested in arguing how demanding your setup is.

I think that for video streaming you need cpu and ram plus good network. However latest mac with SSD/PCie gets 1GB/s write and 0.9GB/s reads in Blackmagic disk speed test,  PCIe 3.0 has specs (theoretical) 8GB/sec. Better though add 128GB RAM (LGA 2011 e.g. MSI) which for video streaming is more important than fastest disk

so get yourself an upgrade if you need it instead of asking about real-world speed tests because it does not matter what your setup can do.

Cruial W/R 250/505 MB/s
Raid-0 (2x1TB 7200 rpm) on the Mac W/R 241/240 MB/s
So as you can see there really is no big speed differences
Until you get to raid-5 which is W/R 450/450 that on my Mac (4-2TB 7200 rpm)
So Money wise it still better to use Spindle hard drive for Storage and or Raid's
Then SSD's
That very Strange! how do you define "Little Value"
I see great value in having a raid-0 @ 1800-1300 MB/s Can't You !
Unless that raid-0 is only 512GB then that's to small.

1) you can use CrystalDiskMark (plus some more) if you want to test your SSD
2) I mentioned specifically Samsung 840 PRO series 256GB/more - currently fastest SSD, much faster than these SSDs you mentioned. As far as reviews go, it seems that Samsung is close to the maximum of current solid state disk performance.
3) about "little value" - you (I assume standard workstation setup) do not have anything close installed (huge db?) to saturate such pipeline (forget about SATA III of course).
4) I would assume that you have proper setup of SSD and HDD to get this working with best performance.

I know that decision has been made so I am not suggesting alternative setup
but
there is no contest what is faster SDD or two (even three) HDD 7200rpm in RAID0.
Samsung 840 PRO 550-520 MB/s 250GB ($200 a month ago)
Even in terms of reliability SDD is better than RAID0
combination of independent SDD (system), and single 1TB 7200rpm (files) will give you faster system. Size is one third of your wishes, but even with 1TB you need backup, more so with 3TB (would be a huge loss of data without backup). Nowadays SDD 250GB/1TB HDD 7200rpm cost below $300. And price will drop fast as 1TB SDD are on the market.
By the way SDD RAID0 (intel) can achieve 1800-1300 MB/s which currently on workstation has little value.

I have 60D. Based on

it seems that 60D + ML is better than 70D stock. However sooner or later 70D will get ML so, personally I would pick up 70D and wait.

On the other hand if this is an upgrade 60D > 70D then it is not worth it in my opinion

Hello,
I am trying to master focus stacking, however I am not able to achieve as much as I wish.
I have 60D with nightly from 11/07.

This is what I am able to do:
go to focus menu
-highlight Focus End Point and press Q. This is your 0 (starting point)
-Focus Stacking menu select:
Num pics in Front 1
Num Pics behind 6
Focus Steps/picture 1
- Focus Settings and set
Step size 2
Step delay 50ms
Step wait ON
Start delay 2

This works well, however numbers of pics is set arbitrary and often requires adjusting/running stack again.
I did search forum and youtube and I found this tutorial:

This is done on 5D mk2 with ML from few months ago. What I like is about this tutorial is that end point is set with joystick. Unfortunately this method does not work form me on 60D/recent ML - number of pics is taken from Focus Stacking menu rather than from joystick.

Evidently I am doing something wrong. I would appreciate your help/suggestions.

not possible: drivers for most of linux fs are available for windows so moving to linux fs will not prevent windows from reading these (if you install drivers). I don't know about OSX though. You could try to experiment with hidden partitions/flags. I don't know if this would be what you want

I understand this (it works perfectly with aettr only), but it seems that shooting aettr only or aettr with dual-iso is a little different.

thank you for prompt answer.
Maybe I did not explained this well enough: what is changing is base iso, not recovery.
let's say before shooting I have set ISO -100, dual-iso is set (recovery) to 800
then I use aettr
at the end iso is 400-800
if for the next shoot (same target, next shoot) I leave all as it is left by aettr (base iso 400) the noise is higher than if I set base iso back to 100 (plus original recovery iso 800). Target is the same and light conditions are same

I am shooting stills with AETTR combined with dual-iso as it generates much less noise. I noticed that after shoot aettr keeps iso settings (that are again changed by aettr if needed), however when combined with dual-iso this requires to change base iso for each shot if I want to keep dr.
for example when I set dual iso 100-800 and combine it with aettr in specific light conditions after shoot base iso is set to (e.g.) 400-800 then for the next shoot I have to set base iso again to 100 manually.

I wonder if it is possible to make aettr to the original settings (in this case 100-800) after each shoot?
This option has a value only if aettr is used in combination with dual-iso?

Hello,
I installed ML 2.3 just as official release was published but I was watching ML progress for few years. ML 2.3 is seems to me the first version that takes care of still shooters and it is really great. I was planning on getting upgrade for my 60D but it seems that I can wait until price will drop more (planning to get 5dmkiii) and ML version matures.
For now enjoying nightly builds dual-iso, aettr, macro options and still learning ML to use full potential of 60D on steroids.

I am running linux and wondering if you have a manual for lightly compilation on alternative OS?

Thank you for great software.
