It is great news that you are considering the 7D, Reddeercity!

I am waiting with great excitement for a working build for the EOS 7D.203.  With its fast CF-card interface and especially its unique filmic look, the 7D has the potential to become the next 4K-crop RAW video monster!

7D needs '4K-crop RAW' !

7D Users,

I played around with the 10/12bit Magic Lantern build for 7D found here: https://bitbucket.org/reddeercity/magic-lantern_10-12bit/downloads/magiclantern-10bit_12bit_raw_twk_crop_rec.2016Dec01.7D203.zip
I was shocked when I managed over 2min of continuous 2520x1200 video @ 24fps with working Liveview and in camera playback! I used a Lexar 64GB 1066x card.

Here's a guide for noobs like myself who wish to try it out.

-In Modules menu enable mlv_play.mo, raw_rec.mo and raw_twk.mo.
-In Movie menu set FPS override to 24 FPS Exact.
-Enable RAW video and set Bit depth to 10, return to Liveview and do 5x zoom, return to Movie menu set resolution to 2520x1200,
-In Overlay menu set Global Draw to OFF, return to Liveview in 5x zoom
-Hit record!

When the camera is turned off and in some other situations when you attempt to record in 5x zoom mode Liveview will freeze. Go back to Overlay menu, enable Global Draw again, return to Liveview 5x zoom, go back again and disable Global Draw, return to Liveview one last time, hit record and you will again be able to view what you are recording.

Most of the time I get around 1min40sec of continuous 2.5k video :)

Edit: I've noticed there's a few of pixles in the bottom right corner of video that do strange things..

Thanks Tonij !
It's working !
I've made some test this morning and i get around 73 seconds of 2.5K 10-bit with 1000x card :

an unofficial test build w/o any warrants for those who want to give raw_rec.mo a try on 7D with 10bt:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9Mu66yg5QzRSXFVREkzZkYwYzQ/view?usp=sharing

have fun.

Feedback for this better provided in the official development thread for bit depth reduction for not becoming offtopic:
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5601.msg175495;topicseen#msg175495

And if there' s already test buildsfloating around elsewhere then I missed it and you can sratch this.

It's working for me !  Global draw off / Preview Canon / FPS overidde 24.
MLV doesn't play in 7D but it's ok when transcoded to DNG in PC.
50 sec in 2560 x 1200 pixels (10 bit)  :)

QuoteI usually get about 6-8 seconds of recording in this mode

With 1000x card from Transcend, i can get 14-15 seconds in 2048 x 1200 pixels (24 fps, crop mode).

I'm back with a small one...
With the VAF-7D, I filmed the Cap Griz Nez in France in 1728 x 972 pixels in RAW format. Much less moire, and the latest ML'S builds are super stable.

I discovered raw video with the 7D recently. First, I used Adobe Camera Raw for grading DNG files but in the future I will use Cineform Raw for sure. The color grading requires other tools and is slightly different but I have excellent results with the Cineform codec raw after a few days of practice. In FilmScan 1, the ratio is between 1/6th to 1/10th compared to DNG raw files. I struggled a bit to find the highlight recovery function but it is possible. I'll try to post some examples when I have time.

First tests results with the 1920*818 Crop mode, using the Brunonickos build.

Hard to frame the picture in the "crop mode", as the picture displayed is not actually as the same size as the one captured.
It's kinda tricky with such tiny subjects ^^

is there a way to add anything to help me framing in this mode?  ???

I'll try the new build tomorrow if the weather is less windy... ;)

Here is your solution for framing  in crop mode (but only on 2.5K) : http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=7503.msg65223#msg65223

I got something to report on the brunonicko build, I get corrupted frames from time to time during a single movie (not only at the beginning)

Strange thing but I have some corrupt frames too with Global Draw activated but no one when Global Draw off.

Love you Brunonicko!!!!!  :) :) :)
on Lexar 1000x 32Go (24p) :

1728 x 972 (16:9) : = continuous
1728 x 736 (2.35) : = continuous

Other resolutions are available in crop (Love that because no line skipping here !) (30p) :
1728 x 736 (crop Mode / 2.35) = continuous

1920 x 1080 (Crop Mode / 16.9) = 235 frames
1920 x 818 (Crop Mode / 2.35) = 660 frames

2048 x 1152 (Crop Mode / 16.9) = 147 frames
2048 x 872 (Crop Mode / 2.35) = 359 frames

2240 x 1200 (Crop Mode / 1.87) : 126 frames
2240 x 1200 (Crop Mode / 2.35) : 198 frames

2512 x 1200 (Crop Mode / aspect ratio 2:09) = 100 frames
2512 x 1068 (Crop Mode / 2.35) = 127  frames
2512 x 942 (Crop Mode / 2.67) = 150  frames

Some corrupt frames with Global Draw activated. No one when Global Draw off.

Awesome progress !!!! i'm loving more and more my 7d !

Hi everybody ! I'm back with my 7D. Just made another one (2.5K, crop mode, with a limit of 59 frames) :

Tested the RAW module with a 1000x Lexar card and

1728x972 = 107 frames
1152x576 = 243 frames

get weird glitches in 1728 see this picture

Exactly the same results with 1000x Lexar and 400x Transcend.
And like Pelican, I can record 1152x576 (ratio 2:1) continously.

Thanks to Aaron (vimeo.com/user10880142), by setting the still image resolution to S2, i can now record 69 frames (1736 x 1156 pixels) and 59 frames of 2.5K (always with transcend 400X CF card).
And same number of frames with Lexar 1000x 32Go...
