Post-processing Workflow / corrupted Raw files
August 19, 2015, 02:50:45 AM
hi
i'm facing problems with a few raw pictures being corrupted. after trying a lot of tool, ufraw-mod gave me an error number, "Corrupt data near 0xc28aaf"

this raw image produces a correct preview and i was also able to generate a good jpeg from it in exif tool, but not full resolution (maybe if someone knows how to generate full res jpegs in exiftool my problem is solved)
is there any way to fiz those raw files, how to prevent it
?

will try now and report

tried now

bulb timer doens't seem to work anymore
just normal bulb behavior

previous bug not reproduced
#6
well yuppa, read it carufully before you bash on others
I never turned mirror lock up on
the only thing that i touched was bulb

what i did was turning mirror lock up on and off after the proble, to see if, using a different setting that interefer witg the shutter it would come back to its normal behavior

what my camera was doing was not mirror lock up. it was bulb
#7
all settings were off
but it is working normal now
forgot to change here
i turned mirror lock up on and off and manual mode works ok now

thanks everybody

Camera Emergency Department / Re: 60D manual modes

before it started i tried the bulb timer in ML

it seem this config is now stucked somewhere
the camera takes a long shoot but doens't record the image (probably because i don't have ML in the card)
before i removed ML i disabled the bulb timer, but it seems something got stuck when i jumped from B to M

Update:

reinstalled ML
seem like my M mode is behavig just like Bulb
the shutter stays open until i press the shutter a second time

Guys, I REALLY need some help here

my camera was working just fine, then yesterday i installed the latest nightly 02/05 (it was in an old nightly already) and now my camera doen't take pictures (it does in automatic only)
the shutter opens and close but the controls get locked and the image is not shown, is like the camera freezes

:-X :-X :-X :-X

really desperate here
i formated the card with the option to remove ML, nothing
i cleaned all settings in the camera: nothing
shoot without a card didn't work
cleaned all setting in C
getting out of ideas here

Help

i'll be shooting a dance video and i have a question
as i understand, its better to shoot movement in higher frame rate, so i tought of going 30 fps and changing it to 24 in post. my doubt is: what shutter speed should i use when changing frame rate? should i use 1/60 as it will be the 180º curve for the captured clip or 1/50 as it will be the 180º curve for the final result?

I made some changes to mlv_rec to use the new SRM memory, I managed to get:

460 frames (19.2s) @ 1280x720p24
170 frames (7.1s) @ 1728x972p24
103 frames (4.2s) @ 2048x1080p24 (crop mode)
86 frames (3.6s) @ 2240x1080p24 (crop mode, max)

20 seconds sounds sweet in 720p =) well done
is it already merged in nightlies?

i think having both would be redundant

i'm thinking about selling my 60d and wait till i get enough money to buy a gh4, but i'm still thinking. i wish there were something like magic lantern for it

Kind of off topic, but how do I shoot regular h264 videos with better quality, better dynamic range and bit rate?

@comurit

I will be buying the GH4.  I will definitely keep my 60D for seconds where I need RAW shoots, and also for ML in general.  The 5d 3 is obviously the best option to shoot raw.  The one thing to consider when shooting Raw is  the space it takes up on your Harddrive.  On the other hand I have gone back to counting shots and rehearsing a shot similar to how I did when using super 8 years back..  I have recently finished a few projects with ML Raw on the 60D that went into terabytes.  With the native canon codec this same amount would have been substantially less

Here are a few examples of commercial work I have done recently every shot was ML Raw on 60D:

...

I don't expect to get as much latitude from the new GH4 as I do in ML raw.  I will use both cameras as tools for when needed.

Cheers,
Janssen

wow

can you share how have you got this amazing shots with the 60d?

if i were to buy a new camera i would have the same doubt and evend iclude the Sony A7s in the fight

but i believe ML is really something that pushes canon forward in video and makes for a difference.

i'll eagerly await the experts on that

What resolution would you choose?
thank you

if i were you i would use 1280 in 4:3
when upscaled it will give you 1980x960!
and i believe you'll get much more than 6 seconds in this resolution
