Steve,

If you use resolve after converting MLV to DNGs, just let the MLVbrowsersharp extract all your MLVs to one folder as resolve can automatically see them as belonging to one clip when you point resolve to the folder containing all the dngs. At first I thought I needed them to be in separate folders but I got use to it later on. I guess it's more organized if they are in separate folders though but its more convenient that theyre not in folders so resolve can show you all the Thumbnails of your clips in one window rather than when they are in individual folders.

Thanks Ted.  This works well for a few mlv files but if I have many mlv files MLVbrowsersharp throw a lot of excemption errors and ultimately crashes.

For a few files though Resolve does indeed import them as individual files even though all of the DNGs are in the same folder.  After Effects imports the DNGs in a similar way as Resolve.

Having 14bit gray-scale would be amazing.

If we save only the chorma information could 4k B&W recording be possible using the new mlv file format?

I use the MLVBrowserSharp.exe to do batch MLV extractions.

Gary

What is your workflow?  I have the same issues.  I have to manually create a DNG folder for each MLV file.  Is there an easier way to batch several MLV files?

Thanks!

Indeed there is.  I'll post some other comparisons and updated SNR graphs after sleep.

When you do this test Audionut it would be beneficial if the camera were locked down on a tripod.  That way we can watch the noise in the blacks disappear as we go from Canon DR, to ML DR, to ML DR + Dual ISO.

Dual-ISO looks like it did fine  :P

At first glance Dual-ISO looks softer but there is a focus difference between the shots.  This can be seen by examining the "MA" letters near the top left.

Where does this vertical banding after raising shadows come from - is this standard on 5d3? I've never seen this on the 6d, probably the latter is really an improvement in this category, but of course hard to say w/o taking identical shots.

I was going to ask the same question.  I have a 5D3 and have never seen that.  Also, it is not there on the dual ISO shot for some reason.

any idea of when you will include mlv_snd into the nightly builds?
#8
sorry not to be clear.

yes.  the ettr module (or Auto ETTR)  when I initiate it with a half shutter press (HalfS DBC) and if the BEEP is on it disables sound meters in mlv_snd and no sound is recorded.

It's most likely a conflict with the beeps (turn them off).

That was it!  With beeps on after you ATTR audio doesn't register or record.

Finding that if I use ATTR (half-shutter press) it disables the mlv_snd for some reason

Also, on this same day shoot about half of the mlv files had no sound for some reason.  ???

I am shooting on a 5D3

I noticed that there is a 5D3_111.sym as well as autoexec.bin file in your mlv_rec folder in addition to the mlv_snd module.

In addition to adding the mlv_snd module to the newest nightly build...

Do I need to copy/replace this autoexec.bin to the root directory of my SD card?

Do I need to copy/relaoce the 5D3_111.sym from your mlv_rec folder into the modules folder of the SD card?

Is anyone using Resolve for overcrank footage?  I can't get my 60p footage to be 60p.   Resolve conforms it all to 24p.

Raw Video / ETTR for video
November 18, 2013, 11:15:20 PM
I would like to use the ETTR module for exposing for video but the problem is that it changes the shutter speed.

I thought I could overcome this by setting the minimum shutter speed to 1/48th of a second but that is not a choice in the settings box (either 1/43rd or 1/63rd).

ETTR would be a great way to get a quick rough exposure setting for video if it left the shutter speed alone and just affected ISO and aperture.

Just wanna add, that I found a way to make RAWanizer include camera profile information. EDIT: The raw2dng is for 5DMKII only

raw2dng: https://www.dropbox.com/s/29qkvnf3pa1c6b7/raw2dng.exe

I overwrited the raw2dng.exe file in RAWanizer tools folder with an older raw2dng (says Last Modified 15. July) which includes camera profile, this alone did not work for me (maybe you will have better luck), but then I also copied the raw2dng in to a folder that had RAW files in it, started converting a RAW file with raw2dng - aborted (ctrl+a - ctrl+c) - Started converting that same file with RAWanizer and now RAWanizer includes Camera profile information on all other RAW files and folders, so you can choose correct Vision Log, faithful, adobe standard etc. :) Hope this will work for others.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today RAWanizer did the same crash as ubejavshiy reported 2 pages back or so and I had a while ago too. I couldn't use RAWanizer for quite some time until one day it just worked. But I believe I found the cause of the error and how to get around it.

So RAWanizer spit this message in my face today and I was like "PLEASE nooo!!".

I had chosen a folder that had some RAW files in it and then the program crashed and when opened again I got the message above. So after re-installing, CCleaning, Moving, adding, compatibility, admin rights, you name it and nothing worked. I was pulling the last few hairs out of my head and I pulled the Hard Drive out which RAWanizer accessed last. (Even though I deleted RAWanizer in Control Panel, it still seems to remember its last location)

I Opened RAWanizer and it worked. Then I tried accessing the same folder again and the error report came up again, instead of choosing Exit, I choose continue and chose another folder containing some other RAW files and those files worked with RAWanizer. So I looked in to the folder in which RAWanizer crashed in. Found a RAW file which was 1 or 0 kb, not sure right now. Deleted it and tried accessing the folder again via RAWanizer and voila!! It worked.

So if anyone else got this problem, try this solution :)

Yep.  This worked for me as well.  Same issue.

Would it be possible to include a sequential renaming feature to aid in post production?

Testing the 256 1200X cards on the 5D mkII, mkIII and 7D, they perform similar to the 1000x cards so there is no "extra 20%".
These cameras don't benefit from the speed and capacity of the new cards as they don't seem to support it well.
Also, when you format in-camera the capacity will be reduced to 128 gig.

I have been told that the 1DC or 1Dxx models seem to benefit from the speed and capacity. I can't personally confirm that.
What I can confirm is the 5D2, 5D3 and 7D cannot take advantage of the size and speed.

Im fact, in a capacity test I did with the mkII the camera will stop recording at around 128gig, even if the card was first formatted as 256gig via PC.

More of my tests on this card is posted here; http://www.ramasolaproductions.com/6.html

Ted,   I have a feeling these Komputerbay cards may not be Lexar QA/QC failed cards but acutally Chinese knockoffs of Lexar cards.  This is my guess because Lexar doesn't even make a 1200x card that one can purchase on the market - nor does anyone.

Could you please do a benchmark write test on your 1200x using a USB3 card reader and a software program and compare the results of that to a 1000x card in the same test so we can really understand if the camera is a limiting factor here?

Sorry, I'm a bit confused as well.

Does this new format currently support synced audio?
#21
Yes.  I am thiking of 5D3 raw shooting as well.

In raw shooting audio is not recorded but audio still comes through the camera mic, no?

So could this be used to trigger an external sound recorder which records the scratch track from camera as well as an XLR boom mic?

This would be incredibly useful in matching up tracks in post where one could know which sound clip goes with with audio clip simply by the clip duration.

Can external recorders be triggered by a beep, then stopped by a beep?

So is there a difference in dual iso images for still photography vs DNGs?

Would love to see a video of this!  Link?
