Dear a1ex, thank you for the info.

But I don't mean a post-processing after taking photos, I mean a correcting level processing from the beginning when taking pictures.
Even though I try to take a skewed picture, it corrects automatically.

Plus 1) if it's possible, it would be better to process without rotating and cropping.

Plus 2) The reason why I ask you for this is I saw a small device attachment to 6mm DV camcorder with the same function. (REAL-TIME auto level correction device.)

Hey guys, I have a quick question for ML.
Do you think is it possible to have an "AUTOMATIC " level correction function in ML?

I know ML already has a green level meter function in LiveView mode and Canon has it's own level meter in viewfinder mode.
What I mean is, with the AUTOMATIC level correction,  you don't need to correct to rotate pictures when taking pictures at first.
With a G sensor, canon DSLR can rotate portrait image automatically.
Moreover, with the function, you can always take a picture not askew. (You can ON/OFF on the menu, for sure.)

I think this function would be possible fixing firmware, what do you guy's think on this?

Hi, guys
I'm using ML for firmware 1.2.3 version.
As I see ML for 1.2.3 has no update since last August.
Maybe I can find some nightly build for 1.1.3.

•magiclantern-Nightly.2014Aug07.5D3123.zip
•Built on: 2014-08-07 07:01:30 +0900

1.
Is there any story about the reason for no updates for 1.2.3?
Development of 1.2.3 ML stopped?

2.
When coming to the download page of ML of 1.1.3 I found some ironic words.

You cannot use this package for first install.
To install ML, please upgrade to firmware 1.2.3.

What does that mean?
For ML of 1.1.3 with Firmware 1.2.3 ??

I tried to install 1.1.3 ML with ML5D3113.FIR but it doesn't work.
(Body firmware is 1.2.3.)

I'm using RAW video for now with ML.
I want to know whether there is any change for 1.1.3 nightly version(2015) with the last version of 1.2.3(2014.8) such as higher resolution or frame rate by faster recording speed.

Hi, baldand

1.3.3 has some errors running on Windows 8.1. x64.
I think you only test it on WINDOWS 7.

I used 3 PCs using windows 8.1 x64 genuine.
EVERY 3 PCs showed the same results. (No starting)

I found some clue. I hope this will help.

Windows 8.1 Event viewer
SideBySide Error (even ID 35)

Can not make an activation context on "mlrawviewer_1_3_3\mlrawviewer.exe.Manifest" file.
There are errors in Manifest or 4th line on "mlrawviewer_1_3_3\mlrawviewer.exe.Manifest" policy file.
The Component ID in manifest is not identified with required ID.

Thank you for you hard working. :)

Would it be possible to include noise reduction function or sharpen function ? thanx
#6
Thank you, baldand.
After testing 1.1.6 ver, today I found some weird thing about bitrate of clips.
If I put the setting default, the total bitrate of 7s-clip is 159Mbps.
While I changed WB and brightness the total bitrate skyrockets to 233Mbps (a whopping 46% up!)

I don't think the image quality of the WB-modified clip is 46% higher than the default clip. (no sharpening, no NR.)
If you didn't not intend to do this, could you fix it?
#7
Thanx, baldand

I think I don't have to use color grading programs e.g. Resolve or Speedgrade anymore if you have a plan to add some functions; 1. sharpen 2. NR

WB adjustment already makes a decent RAW clips.

BTW, I don't know why I got a message like

"This message is awaiting approval by a moderator."
for the first time.

Are there any requirements or something else(donation?) to leave a message here???
Then, I feel really sorry for that.

Baldand,  how many cores does MIRAWviewer support?
1.1.5 runs 3 times faster than 1.1.4 !!!

Plus, does it any chance to support
1. Noise Reduction 2. constrast adjustment(Auto mode is good, too.) in the FUTURE?

#10
Couldn't be better, Baland.

WB picker and MOV output works great. The only thing I hope is adding AdobeRGB mode.
(for taking RAW with Adobe RGB mode of 5D mark3.)
Do you think is it possible?

Very Impressive tool :D
Baldand, which post-processing do you recommend after using your tool to make apch 4:4:4 MOV file?
(e.g. After effect? Da Vinci? premiere?)

OR

You may recommend to output DNG sequence not MOV file.

Any answer would help. Thanks

First, I want to say Thank you for making this marvelous tool.
BTW I have some questions about this program.

Any Plan making MLV browser which can browse thumbnails of all MLV files in a folder?
like

Parallel processing at once per CPU core. (at least 4 converting processes at a time.)

Thanx ted.
Was it a full frame clips (1920*1080)? Then it's interesting.

I tired Rawanizer at first. Though I can shorten the time to convert RAW clips (6~8 times the clip's length), the output quality was not good. So I seeked other way.

Now I use the last way to convert MLV to MOV(QT H264).
I do MLV-> DNG -> TIFF -> MOV using MLVBrowseSharp, Lightroom, Quicktime Pro.

I tried AfterEffects for 4:4:4 export. But I couldn't find a difference for usual scenes.
So I turned to Quicktime to make a MOV H.264. (The quality is the same as AE.)
Rather, the thing is Lightroom which spends MUCH more time than RAWanizer.
(It takes more than 90% of the whole process; It's about 30 times clip's duration.)

Anyone has an idea?

I open this thread to share some information of times needed to make movie clips from RAW video.

Hello, guys.

I'm using ML raw video with my 5D markIII since it was released.
I bought fast CF sandisk 160MB/s card to shoot 1920*1080 RAW video.
I also set SSD, RAM disk storage and i7 quad-core system to convert RAW clips to Movie clips.

By the way, converting MLV to MOV(H.264) is still long and tiresome process for me.

I checked up the time to convert it.
I took about 30~40 times a clip's duration. (e.g. Making 1 min clip takes OVER half AN Hour.)  ---> It's 1920*1080 24p 8)

So, I want to discuss
How long does it take for you to convert RAW clips? (and via what workflow?)
It depends on a resolution and frame rate for sure.

Raw Video / Re: Real world use of RAW video on DSLRs?
January 13, 2014, 10:40:56 AM
I can't chime in with prevalence of RAW video; Rather I belive 4K era will come, soon.

No matter how *fast PC is, it still needs time to convert MLV into DNGs and combine them to movie file.
Plus, there's no software to convert MLV files to movie clips in one click.
If you shoot with 4K video camcorder, all you have to do is just connect USB cable to PC and play it.

Even though RED is cheaper than $1000, people will not use it to record their everyday life.
Usability issue cannot be igrnored when it comes to daily life shooting not commercials and films.

*You don't need nice GPU; CPU is far more important.
GPU encoding quality is not as good as CPU encoding. Cuda-acceleration filter is limited.
*I use RAM disk(write speed: 11000 MB/s), but it still takes much time.
*AS I said in low light, 4K smartphone is not good at all. That's why I pointed "only in a day circumstances"

Depends on your needs.  8)

IF you shoot a commercials or movies, RAW video is a good choice 'cause we can focus on the 1-min-clip for 2 hours or more.
HOWEVER, if you shoot for hobbies and record for a trip abroad, you got the wrong one.

How many time could you put into JUST making videos for A TOUR?

10-hours-moive recording?

voi·là
Maybe it'll takes 100 hours or more (with SUPERFast i7 computer)

So, RAW video is not good for recording your everyday life.
I rather recommend you shooting SMARTPHONE can record 4K movie (e.g. Galaxy note 3).

4K video has more cleaner image than 5D mark3 RAW-video. (only in a day circumstances)

Thanx Danne ;D

I use windows, though. ㅜ.ㅜ

Hi, I'm wondering there's way to convert MLVtoDNG+WAV in one commnad file by Drag and Drop.
I know MLV2DNG can do it. But not convert WAV file from MLV.

Anybody know about the development?

Marten,

I want to convert RAW->DNG (via RAWanizer)
DNG->TIF (including color editing)  via Lightroom

Then I "REally want to convert this "TIF" (not TIFF ) into MOV file.

However, all I can do is just press start button and see "error message".

What's the problem?

What I did was...
1. changing file names from .TIF to .TIFF
2. Making tiff subfolder in DNG folder RAWanizer made when I convert RAW to DNG.
3. put .TIFF files into the tiff folder I made above.
4. pressing "start" button in RAWanizer clicking "RAW files" "DNG folders" "Watch folder" "Auto TS"

I tried ver. 0.3.3, 0.4.2, 0.5, 0.55. but the results are the same.

General Help Q&A / Re: Nightly builds for 5D3?

I don't think that version is brand new.

I heard July 8th build is the new one for 5D mk3.   ;D

Isn't there any CF card can record 1920*1080 30fps ???

It must be as fast as 107MB/s write speed. :D
