Well, I finally got my 128gb 95mb/s card, and I shooted some MLV footage.

MLVFS works nicely, and its DOES remove the dots automatically! completely awesome. But I'm having some problems with soem white dots thats appear on the image. Anyone has any idea on how to fix that?

Playback of the DNG sequence in Premiere is not exactly smooth. It can play the files, and I can do some editing, but not flawlessly. Do you think there's some settings I'm not using right, or is the hardware just not enough?

Thanks everybody for the help, I really appreciate it.

I just started using MLVFS and made a tutorial for myself to remember how to use it, but in Spanish. I'll just paste it here, maybe it can help someone.

Quote

c:
cd \MLVFS_x86
mlvfs.exe M:\ --mlv-dir=E:\MLVFS

General Help Q&A / Re: 60fps Override?
« on: August 12, 2016, 04:28:49 AM »
I assume RAw at 60fps can't be done. But I would like to know also if common compressed video can be shooted in 60fps with fps override =)

4
Does anyone used MLVFS on Windows with footage from a T4i / 650D ?

Does this remove pink dots automatically? (focus and sensor dots)

5
The problem with MLVFS is that I need to remove the pink dots from the DNGs, I can't just use them like they come. Does MLVFS has the ability to remove them as well?

Also, how much hardware power would I need to do DNG editing in premiere directly? I have an i5 2500k, 8gb ram, and GeForce 5850. State of the art... of 2011 :D

Raw Video Postprocessing / RAW Workflow for T4i/650D - opinions wanted
« on: August 05, 2016, 05:31:52 AM »
Hello! I would really like opinions on this worflow for shooting 1280x720 at 24fps with a Canon T4i/650D on a Windows system. I've read a bunch of really useful things in this forum, but most of it is from 2013 or 2014, and I see there are lots of new tools available now that weren't before, so:

1) Shoot 1280x720 24fps with .MLV (including sound)
2) Convert .MLV to .DNG with MLVProducer, selecting the option to remove both focus and sensor dots
3) Import DNG sequence on After Effects and grade the footage with Camera RAW
4) Export as 1920x1080 24 fps AVI with BlackMagic 10-bit codec
5) Edit in Premiere then export to 1080p H.264 or whatever depending the need

My doubts with this worflow are:
- Should I just work with the DNG sequences directly on Premiere and then grade and export everything there? does it require too much hardware power for this resolutions?
- Will the 10-bit BM codec limit my image quality noticeably?
- Should I leave the footage how it is on AE, export it, and then do all the grading in Premiere instead?

Thanks!

That is some beautiful footage, thank you for sharing! May I ask you some questions about your workflow?

1) What resolution are you shooting with, and what are your overall settings on camera? Do you have skipped frames at some point or shoot continuously?

2) When you import the DNG sequence on AE to make the 2k AVI, do you grade the footage at that moment or do you just export it as it comes (flat) then grade in Premiere?

Hardware and Accessories / Re: SD card for Canon 700D RAW in 1280X720
« on: July 28, 2016, 03:46:39 PM »
dfort, could you post a benchmark of your sd card? just for curiosity. I know already that is the card to go, but want to actually see how it performs  :D

I'm looking to buy an extreme pro 128gb, not sure if it has the same speed as the 32gb and 64gb models.

9
It would have to be with an adapter. But I was asking if it could be done in theory. Sorry for not being clear.

10
Would this allow you to use EF-S lenses on a full frame sensor like the 5D's?

Beautiful colors. But I think it's too stretched, maybe 1080p it's too much resolution for that footage? apart from that, it looks very pleasing.

This are my 3 SD cards:

http://i.imgur.com/kLuIgLP.jpg (SanDisk 32GB)
http://i.imgur.com/bjXH7wM.jpg (Samsung 32GB)

All exFAT

I'm guessing I'm going to have to buy another card.
what the heck samsung, i think i got ripped off with that one

edit: Just tested doing 1280x426 (3:1) 24fps and it's the first time I get continuous recording in RAW mode. Testes it once more, but now it stops. I think the card speed is just too unstable.

13
That is amazing news! at least if Canon doesn't want to do it, we'll probably have an A7s who will :P who knows..

Ok, I just inserted the card into my PC, copied the files in a folder, formatted it to exFAT, then put the files again in the SD. Once in the camera I had to "update" the firmware again to have ML again (I'm just writing it for anyone with the same dumb questions as me, to have it ultra clear).

Now, camera is set to 1920x1080 24fps
ML is seto to 1280x720 (16:9)
ML VIDEO and SOUND are ON
I got 27 seconds of footage until I got a skipped frame.

"Files>4GiB (exFAT)" is ON = 29 seconds of footage

1280x720 50fps on camera settings
1280x432 (16:9) on ML RAW settings = 7 seconds of footage

What am I doing wrong here?

15
Yep, it's better than nothing, but it would be cool to have the ability to actually record non stop without the half second cut

Do I just format the card with de ML inside it to exFAT, delete everything, and put the SD on the card again?

Or do I have to uninstall ML, then convert to exFAT, move the ML files inside the card and reinstall everything?

Sorry for the silly questions, I know you probably answer the same things over and over, thank you for your patience.

I record live gigs for 2 3 hours straight with my 650D. Only thing I have to deal with is the 30 minute limit, so it actually cuts there and I have to play the record button again. I wish that limit was eliminated.

128gb would be 50 minute of MLV raw footage?

Anyway, I can't seem to find the correct settings for recording in MLV more than just a few seconds. Where can I find some optimal settings for the T4i? I've practically read the entire forum by now, and can't seem to find anything accurate. Same thing with RAW 1.0.

This is the SD card I'm using: http://i.imgur.com/kSDBTOV.jpg

Could this be the problem?

The highest resolution I could record for continuous recording was 960x540 (16:9)

@Walter Schulz if I monitor the audio through an external recorder (H6) connected to the camera, would it be the same as monitoring from the camera if it worked?

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: MLVProducer
« on: July 24, 2016, 09:56:41 PM »
Does it make any sense to record MLV, then convert it to H264 with MLVProducer to edit files in Premiere Pro?

Will it keep the great quailty of the raw video? how much better than H264 straight from the camera would it be? (I'm using a 650D)

I'm new here, just trying to undertand how this all works.

Thanks!

Has anyone tried using MLVProducer as an all in one solution for working with th MLV files that come out of the 650D (pink dots, etc.) to make them usable for editing in premiere?

I haven't even recorded anything in raw yet, I'm trying to figure out how this all works.

Thanks for the reply, I will definitely try that! I sometimes do work as a cameraman for live gigs, and having to cut is a bummer, so even if it cuts half a second it's better than what I have.

I have some very noon questions, and I'm trying to avoid making a thread:
1) where can I find a step by step guide to record raw, and what would be the settings options I have to consider?
2) where can I find a step by step guide to make the raw files usable for editing in premiere pro?
3) What's is the difference between RAW_REC.mo and MLV_REC.mo + MLV_SND.mo. Are they as "safe" as using the features that comes by default in ML?

4) Also, I noticed the focus ring is slightly different (18-135 STM), as if it has shortened the movement I can make with the ring to focus or defocus at the ends (I'm not sure if I explained it right). Is there something I should know concerning that?
5) I want to get a 128GB SD card for doing MLV recording. What are known card models that I should get?

I really appreciate all the effort you guys make with this, it's absolutely amazing.

edited cause I found some answers, but still have some questions!

Just installed last version of ML on my 650D. Audio seems to work fine for me! I even connected a Zoom H6 to the mic line, and works fine. Maybe is it in RAW mode that it doesn't work?

Is it possible to record video for more than 30 minutes in normal 1080p/30fps mode? how do I disable and enable the audio bars? where are the profiles?

Sorry for the noob questions.
