Hi Sebastian,

> Cable protection would indeed be nice to have but I do not consider it an essential vital camera feature.

I say this is partly true for cameras _with_ built in displays and recorders. With the AXIOM Beta it is essential. Lose the connect and you don't record anymore. Not good! I mostly do live recordings, so for me it is even more of an issue. No possibility of a retake, and I might lose that client as well. Potentially damaging the socket is also an issue, but at least the AXIOM Beta's got three of those ;-)

Andrew

New rendering of the remote controller:

Very nice, and a bit more compact.

Just followed up on the links to other ML-forums, and the Tessive dead-end. This is (another reason) why the open camera project will be a godsend! :-)

Thanks for the links a1ex! I especially liked the second article.

"[...] a soft global shutter pushes the limits of what is possible with motion capture, and effectively overcomes many of the traditional trade-offs. Cinematographers ordinarily have to choose between using a lower shutter angle and achieving sharper stills, for example, or using a higher shutter angle and achieving smoother motion. A soft global shutter can achieve both simultaneously.
The end result is a more natural and robust representation of motion that makes the most of a given frame rate. Everything else being equal, panning and motion blur will therefore appear smoother. [...]" [http://bit.ly/1xW0BoV]

Wow! Amazing things to come :-)

External monitor users, please have a look at this:

Hi a1ex, is there an easy way to get the compiled code to test? Sorry, my programming days are so far away... Concentrating on creating content nowadays.

Cheers,

Andrew

Since my camera came with 1.2.3 installed the question is if I should revert to 1.1.3. Does "serious video use" pertain mainly to using the raw functionality or to video recording in general? For me H.264 recording seems to work fine except for a one-off issue. Are most people using the older firmware?

Also, just noticed that if you record on CF, you are more likely to get dropped or corrupted frames (in both raw and h.264). Yesterday I did all my tests on a SD card, and it seems a better choice when pushing FPS to the maximum value.

I thought only CF cards had the necessary write speed. Is that not so?

I just had a strange experience with the 5D mk3 and Marek's build. The camera would show the ML menu when I pressed the trash button but switch back after a second. I managed to get all setting dialed in and recorded the set, but it appears the camera wants to negate the WB shift setting in irregular intervals, causing short (luckily slight) colour changes for a fixed number of frames. I'll post two samples in a bit. A few hours after the session the camera (with the same card and all) luckily performed without any problems.

Here are two samples.

Cheers,

Andrew

Fresh compiled version of ML with overlays on LCD (mirroring enabled):

USE IT FOR TESTS ONLY AND ON YOUR OWN RISK

A sure way to make the camera crash is to enable the 5x zoom, hook up an external HDMI display and start recording in raw mode. A static image was displayed on the screen, turning the camera off did not change a thing, but popping out the battery did the trick.

is there a way to get rid of the "FPS override: ..." text when recording RAW?

Disabling "Extra hacks" does the trick, although I think the FPS override announcement should take care of it's disappearance on it's own.

BTW, what is the preferred way to report (potential ;-) bugs? Is it OK to mention them in the camera related section or should I file create a Mantis-entry or some such?

Cheers,

Andrew

Hi Marekk, has this feature been integrated into the nightly builds yet?

Cheers,

Andrew

OK, looking at the changelogs it appears the last significant additions were on April 24. Probably not an easy task ;-)

Hi guys,

Im receiving my Lexar 64gb 1066x cards tomorrow and I cant wait to test out the ML Raw on my 5D3.

I just got a few questions if anyone could help me answer.

1. Should i start with 1.2.3 or try 1.1.3 first?
2. Where can I find the right camera settings for RAW on this forum? (stuff i need to switch on or off in camera settings)

Thx in advanced!
Dan Estee

Hi Dan, I jumped right into using the version that supports 1.2.3. Seems to work fine so far.

Cheers,

Andrew

You should to disable Extra Hacks or Memory hack in MLV_REC options..

OK, I'll try that next chance I get. Thanks!

Andrew
