From the youtube description, it is 1728 X 736 (2.35:1)

Oh.... correct. I saw 1728 and I just went to think it's 16:9 :D My bad

Although - I found which build he used and with that one I'm getting 5.2 secs in 24fps instead of the 4.3 which is still an improvement. Not sure how it came to be.

Wow this build solved my problem.... i'll do some other test but it really solves the problem...
This is one of the first test i did with the last release i used, in some shoots you can see bad pixel

I'm really impressed how ml raw manages shadows, no compression artifacts only the shadow... it's very awesome...

i can get 8s 208f with sandisk 45mbs the same with 95mbs version

You get 208 frames in 1728 x 972? Can you say more about how did you achieve that? it's like 8 seconds and something and so far I haven't heard of anyone getting more than 4.3 seconds on a 60D? Good job btw! :)

Wait a second... did they ported that "sensor crop" function from 600D to 60D? Can you shoot with the 3x zoom on a 60D?! Anyone? I just saw a few comments about it.

Just tested at 1600x670 and your right!!!! Weird pixilation is gone!!

Yup... really weird! Do you get crappy stuff at 16:9 - 1344 x "whatever the height was" ?

Anybody else getting rectangular pixels on the 1280x720p ?

Thanks man. It's not pixelation it's in the original DNG's too. I rendered at MAX quality on every setting in Premiere Pro.  Looks like MoirĂ© and Aliasing because of all the buildings. All the close up shots don't show any video artifacts...Hmmm

Actually... it's not normal/natural... somehow i had the same problem a while ago. Instead of using square pixels the DNGs were made of rectangular ones. I have no clue why did it do that. I do believe it has something to do with a specific resolution. The original DNG files looked like really poor resolution and they were in 1280x720p... I'm still searching for an explanation but I can't reproduce that effect. I am noticing you had your shutter speed cranked up. I had mine as well, but I see ABSOLUTELY NO connection between shutter and the DNGs pixel mode.

TRULY WEIRD :|

I agree with a1ex actually... I'm doing a TV advert these days - paid job again. For the last week I've been shooting RAW almost everyday while not working on the main stuff.

4.4 secs on the 1734x976 24.000 overridden... I made a small laminated chart to carry in my pocket with the time capabilities of each resolution from 1734x... => 1600x... => 1472x... => 1344x... and 1280x...
So from the 1734x976 - 4.4 secs to the 1280x720 - 14seconds I am pretty happy. Only thing I need to do is rethink well every shot, place it, coordinate start/end and just overall pre-plan of everything.

Actually I think this limitation works towards my skills as a cinematographer :D haha There's also this kind of feeling one of my video course teachers was talking about - trying to save film in the old days with the huge ass cameras and expensive film reels. It probably feels the same to some extent when shooting with 3 x 32gb cards and a 70gb free space on a laptop around me + THESE TIME LIMITS THAT I SEE AS AN AWESOME THING NOW.  LOL

THANKS AGAIN ML!!!

Great advice, thanks!

When you say ONLY 1280x720, do you mean selecting 1280x720p as a crop in the Magic Lantern raw settings menu, or do you mean putting the camera into 1280x720p mode in the Canon menu and shooting raw 1280x720p that way?

In the movie mode my camera is set to 1920x1080p and then I set the RAW module to shoot in 1280x720p I haven't experimented much with setting up the camera in 720p and then the RAW as well in 720p, but I've seen people saying you might get lower quality.

@DerekDock - Nice bro! Once you start noticing the whole behavior of the camera and how to avoid these small issues it becomes truly pleasant to work with it and apply it in your work.

Still I'd be cautious on the whole thing! :)

Just got 1280x720 24p 351 frames consistently on my Sandisk 95mbs   :D

I'm getting similar result with the 45mbps SanDisk 32 gb - between 330-350 frames...

I did some paid work with the 1280x720p RAW already. I am quite happy actually. I let my client know that there is a possibility of loosing the data and processing delays(due to the workflow) + I shot only scenes that won't cost anything to remake except some fuel for my car.

My rules when it comes to shooting with the RAW module:
1) 45 mbps or above for the SD card.
2) ONLY 1280x720 works properly when it comes to magenta frames, skipping and proper raw2dng extraction.
3) Global draw - OFF. Otherwise 2 out of 10 shots will have magenta frames.
4) After shooting a sequence and seeing the buffer emptying - I LEAVE the camera to take at least 6-10 secs "rest" till I start the next shot. I noticed that relying only on those stars that show the buffer capacity is not a good deal. If I shoot a sequence and then start the next one EXACTLY after I see those stars disappearing - I'm getting either magentas or lower frame count (for example 310 or even 305).

And not a rule, but more of a warning to those that are not used to work with so much crop:
5) I would really need a feature that takes the whole image and resizes it to 1280x720 like the normal movie mode is doing. It is a huge pain that I can't use RAW to take an awesome 17mm wide shot of that deserted beach near my city. I hope it is possible and that it won't take too much time or/and effort for the ML guys to figure it out. It will be SUPER beneficial!!!

Then again - THANK YOU MAGIC LANTERN FOR UNLOCKING ALL THESE INSANE STUFF FOR US!!! For me it's literally "magic" what I can do with such a cheap camera.

ML RAW captures LiveView straight from the sensor, bypassing any hardware/software. That gives you 1728 x 972 pixels on the 60D and of course no Picture Profile!

Probably you didn't get my question right.
When you compare 1080p h.264 and 720p h.264 footage - there is no cropping (picture looks the same, the only difference is the resolution).
BUT if you try to compare 1728x972 RAW to 1280x720 RAW - the 1280x720 looks like a cropped version of the 1728x972 RAW - that's why we get those cropmarks in live view... the outcome looks kinda like you digitally zoomed in.

What I'm asking is if it would be possible to use the full sensor size and get a 1280x720 RAW from it, instead of cropping it. I know that this would introduce moire and aliasing, but the way it is now when i shoot with 17mm lens it looks like it's being 25mm or smthn.

@kgv5 Thanks dude, dunno why I missed that!

I don't think there is a way you can use picture styles while shooting RAW :) So... it's not the cinestyle... Can you try shooting in exact fps - 24fps so it would show you 24.000?

BTW I'm currently shooting 1280 x 720 RAW for 307 frames. Weird thing is that 307 divided by 24fps = around 12.smthn seconds. In AE I get around 10 seconds of footage. Anyone know why is that?!

Also - can anybody say if it would be possible to use the whole sensor and shoot in 720p without cropping the picture? The way that the normal movie mode does?
