Hey man, a picture of your construction would be great, sounds like a pretty daring and successful diy project!

As for the video: I love the concept, good to see you don't mind getting wet for a cool video. I really like some of the compositions, while some others not so much - she was missing headroom fx - is this due to shooting in crop mode? Also, I think you should try to put some attention to getting some smoother moves, sure having your camera underwater is quite a challenge I imagine.
I love the grading you did, powerful look!

Hey Satis,

yeah I know it's kinda shaky in some parts. Didn't had my glidecam with me .. just handheld.
What are compositions you don't like? Can you point me to the min/sec in the video so that I can look it up.

If with "missing headroom" you're referring to this one than I have to say this was intentional:

Thanks for your help!

Here are some quick snaps from the "underwater housing" as promised earlier:

Nice! DIY underwater housing sounds adventurous, can you tell us more on how you went about building it?

hey man,
thanks for your comment. :)

the underwater housing is more like a "underwater" housing. it's a plastic box that I cut a whole in on one side and attached an acrylic glas to. the glas is fixed to the box with screws and hot glue.
on the inside bottom there is a quick release plate attached.
I just put in weights or sandbags to get it below the surface of the water.
I tested it in the bath tub before I took it to the lake. But I'm really impressed of how simple of construction it is and how good the results are.

There is still enough place in the box to mount a external monitor and add a wireless follow focus system.

If you like I can show some pictures of the setup.

cheers mate

Hey everyone,

I'm so lad this whole ML community exists.
I've been testing with ML RAW for some months now and this recent shot is the first that I wanted to show.
It's not about the story as there is no story at all. I just wanted to see how far I can push the colors in post.

Oh and I wanted to find out how my DIY underwater housing would perform. :)
What do you think?

It's a pleasure to work with those files in davinci resolve.

What do you think about my first test?
I shared some more insights on my fb if you'd like to follow: https://www.facebook.com/sebastiankubatz.de

Raw Video / Re: mlv_sound not working regularly

yes I know it's not really good audio from the internal mic but before investing in a rode mic I wanted to see if I can figure out the problem with recording audio.

I don't think the gain was too low. The audio file doesn't contain any information. Like if I would import them into a premiere or resolve timeline you always get to see the "waves" of that file. But on some files these waves or completely missing. So there is no information in those files whatsoever.

Are you using built in mic or external?

I'm using the built in mic. Is that a common problem?
Does it work better with external mic for whatever reason?

Raw Video / mlv_sound not working regularly
July 30, 2014, 09:07:21 AM
Good morning from the other side of the world (depending on where you live ;) ).
Thanks a lot for that great community and all the work all the individuals have done. ML is just mind-blowing.

I got one question though.
I'm having trouble recording internal audio with mlv_sound enabled.
It works in some cases but not in others. Say if I record 8 short clips in a row and look at them on the computer (OSX 1.9.4) only like two or three of those wave files that come with the video really have audio in them. The other wave files are there but they are empty and do not contain any audio.

I convert with MLVMystic and am using the latest built on a 5D3.

Does anyone have the same problems?
Did anyone find a way to fix that?

Thanks a lot for your help.

What aspect ratio are you aiming at?
What cards you got?
16:9 gets you half a min or more in Raw rec at max resolution with GD off.
If its a music video, I guess you wont be needing sound recording, so raw rec will do just fine but 2:20:1 is continues with GD on and sound in this MLV build (if you got the right card).
If you wanna go with Raw_rec, then 24th oct build is best one.
my 5 cents.

thanks for the input
we'll be using two lexar 1000x 32GB and are aiming at 1.85:1 or 2.39:1 aspect ratio
yes audio is not a big deal

raw_rec is still have an edge. You might take a look at the version of 24th Oktober.

I'm shooting a music video in the next two weeks and really want to use magic lantern.
Do you think it'd be better using raw_rec from Oct 24th or the newest mlv_rec?

I really appreciate your help. Thanks a lot so far.

That does help a lot.
Thank you very much.

Can't wait for you to go into more detail though. :)

Thanks David for writing those Tutorials.
This is a huge help for me.

What I'm really interested in is how to work with all the different node types in Resolve.

I'm having trouble with OSX Mavericks as well.

Can someone please post a link to a version that runs in Mavericks?

Is there a way to convert .MLV files to DNG? (an what are the .idx files for?)

Hey,

great work so far!

Is there a way to get files larger >4GB working?
raw2dng always comes up with:

[image2pipe @ 0x102019600] Could not find codec parameters for stream 0 (Video: ppm): unspecified size
Consider increasing the value for the 'analyzeduration' and 'probesize' options
[image2pipe @ 0x102019600] Estimating duration from bitrate, this may be inaccurate
pipe:0: could not find codec parameters
Done

Raw Video / Re: Raw video on 5DMK2
May 26, 2013, 01:18:52 AM
Hey everyone,

pretty cool things going on here in the last couple days.
I'm totally new to ML Firmware and am really amazed by it's capabilities.

I still do have 3 essential questions:

1. Where can I download the latest ML RAW version for the 5D MKII? I'm running an older version from the first page of this thread.
Can someone post a link on where to get the latest version?

2. Where can I set custom video resolutions in the firmware? I only get 1280, 1320, 1880 (and the smaller ones) for example. But I saw people here posting about different sizes.

3. I use the raw2dng app on the Mac to generate the DNG files but on some files it just shows "Error: This ain't a lv_rec RAW file".
As I noticed that happens on files larger than 2GB in file size. What am I doing wrong?

I'm really looking forward to your answers.
Any help is deeply appreciated.

Thanks a lot so far!  :)
