Raw Video / Re: 7D high fps
June 08, 2014, 05:25:02 AM
hmm yeah, really harsh compression.... and it's hard to get reference on how slow it is with just beez, but it's the quality I'm looking at. what I said about stretching is, what if I wanted the aspect ratio to be that, is there a way to get it to be normal at that res? and if possible, how bad is the quality loss? can this be achieved by changing the recording aspect ratio in the ml menu?

how about upping the bitrate multiplier? in normal h.264 what is the highest bitrate (Mb/s) you can get for 50fps?

its true, I gave up after the 3rd page, but most searches at the time were giving no results, and having to wait the 15 seconds each time was just a bit of salt in the wound, but thanks for making a relevant post to the conversation.

That link you posted shows really bad aliasing, but it's also really really compressed. It's also a bad example, showing high fps with still subjects? But it showed low rolling shutter problems. Is there some way to set it to shoot at a letter box ratio that doesn't need to be stretched? other wise I don't think the 7D would be worth it for me.

I tried to search for it but came up with nothing, not even on youtube....

can you put up an example, I want to see how bad it looks and to see if it's usable or worth it?

Raw Video / 7D high fps
May 31, 2014, 12:46:42 PM
I'm looking at upgrading from my 50D to either a 7D or a 5D ii, I keep looking at the capabilities sheet, and I like full frame, but I like that it says that the 7D can do 50/60 fps, but I can't find any tests.... why is this? does it not actually work?

And why isn't the 7D on this regular list? http://www.magiclantern.fm/downloads.html

I'm fine with the lower resolutions, because it comes up higher than 1080 when upscaled anyway from the 50D anyway, so that's not factoring into my equation .

tested this with .MLV and .MOO files, it's pretty much exactly the same, but put a space after the "/b" part, or it probably wont work for mlv or raw, the other thing you may want to know is, if you're accessing a different drive, you have to type the drive in before the "cd" part, for instance, on it's own line put in "G:" then put in the "cd" part (cd stands for change directory, not compact disc :P )

finally after many variations of command lined prompts, this seems to have worked. Get your command prompt, then:
cd C:\your folders address
copy /b"M25-1920.RAW"+"M25-1920.R00"+"M25-1920.R01"+"M25-1920.R02"+"M25-1920.R03" xyz.RAW

(of course change the file names to the names of your files) then just add your own file name at the end that's in red, and convert to dng like normal (I use raw2dng.exe)

with the tragic lantern it would reach about 4gb then stop, but with nightlys it just keeps going, it gives me a  .raw and a .r00, .r01, .r02 etc and I can't use them. http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=10136.new#new

Raw Video / 50D can't turn movie restart off
January 24, 2014, 09:08:54 AM
I'm new to nightlys, I've used 2 versions now and I couldn't turn of "movie restart" off in either of them? I know where the option is, but is there more to it?

I wouldn't have such a problem with it if I could get the files to work, but I've tried a whole lot of things to no avail.

I saved the file as that from notepad? because if that's what I was supposed to do, then I don't know what was supposed to happen  :-\ because all it did was ask me how I wanted to open the .pl file

can anyone help me figure out how to turn movie restart off? I've turned it off in the menus, but it still does it? am I missing something?

Raw Video Postprocessing / I .r00 the day
January 23, 2014, 07:23:24 PM
I have a .r00 and a .raw file, named the same. I have this because I was testing the auto restart (but can't seem to turn it off anyway)

I'm on windows 8
I've tired raw2dng.exe on both, neither worked
then this http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5557.0 then managed to get a conjoined .raw and then raw2dng.exe again, but nothing, in fact, it gave me some sass!
so I tried this http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5732.0 but gives me nothing but glitched pink videos
I also tried some other command prompt thing where you "+" the files together, it did some thinking, but gave me no file at the end?

is there a proven way to join them?

Tragic Lantern / Re: 50D RAW install guide

This is posted in the tragic lantern section, so that's not relevant, I'll write a separate one for nightlys and post it in the "raw video" or "nightlys" section then.

And that's the thread that's stickied, I'm using nightlys now anyway, but there was a lot that wasn't exactly explained for me, so I'm making it easier for new people.

I'm planing to do that at some point, but that's what is on the stickied post, plus, this is a guide for beginners, and nightlys are said to be less stable?

but if you want me to edit it, then I can. But can this be edited too then? http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=5586.0

Raw Video / Re: Real world use of RAW video on DSLRs?
January 12, 2014, 09:32:03 AM
3 simple reasons;
1) green screen, compositing and other digital touch ups become a whole lot easier and better looking
2) colour correction with compression is like stapling your eyelids shut :P raw is a dream for this!!
3) until recently, the majority of movie projectors were 2k, so for the 5d3, h264 didn't look to great, but raw 1080 (close to 2k) that I've seen looks fine

it really comes down to what you want.... and if you want to colour correct..... seriously.... colour correction........... colour........ correction....... colour erection....... :P

Raw Video / Re: can't understand things
December 03, 2013, 02:06:04 AM
Okay so the answer I think I was looking for is; In all modes the raw image is coming from live view, and for some reason in crop mode it sends way too much horizontal information?
I suppose even though this is good, the buffer would fill up way too quickly.

Dmilligan, good explanation on buffer chunks ,thank you.

it seems my reply went missing for the second time O_o

walter, that's very interesting

lenny, in the simplest way, how does being in crop mode increase the amount of pixels your camera can handle?

dmilligan, I thought that may have been the case, but now I want to know what these "chunks" are? :P Does it have any effect, or is it all about the biggest number?

Raw Video / Re: can't understand things
December 02, 2013, 09:52:25 AM
I know buffer size isn't important to understand (thanks for the link though), I just like to know what I'm dealing with when I look at things. But if you don't know, it's fine.

I understand the idea of crop, but it's still dealing with the same amount of pixels, why would "max resolution in crop mode" be higher than "max resolution 1:1 liveview no crop"? Is there something I'm missing, or does the crop mode not use live view, thus freeing more processor?

Raw Video / can't understand things
November 30, 2013, 03:56:45 PM
Okay, once I understand what this all means, then I'll decide if I want this.

I was looking at the chart http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=6215.0 and I want to know what they mean by crop and no crop? is it similar to apsc being 1.6? (though that wouldn't make sense.... wouldn't it still be the same amount of pixels?)

The other thing I don't understand is the numbers for buffer size.... I'm more lost than..... something that is really lost.....

Is there a chart for approximate recording times before it starts to frame skip? Are the columns with "continuous rec" the only modes that continuously record with out frame skipping because the buffer is full?

What are the advantages of ExFat over the other types?

I have a 600d but might upgrade too. Can you also save space in recording by not having an audio track? (I have a zoom etc for audio)

(please excuse bad grammar and english, I've been looking at this for a while and it's now almost 1:30am....)
