Yes I tried removing ML and had the same problem, so likely is not an ML problem.  Canon tech support is also clueless as to why or how this could be happening.  I wouldn't much care except that sometimes it's nice to leave your camera in a mode where you can take a quick timely shot with no manual fiddling.

I also updated to FW 1.3.4 and ML 1.3.4 and it also made no difference.

Did not try undoing the boot flag that allows ML to load.

I have a 5DIII with ML 1.2.3.  I am having a problem with autofocus in full auto mode. Auto focus works fine in all modes except non-live view full auto, in which case no focusing occurs.  There are no focus triangles in the viewfinder.  Interestingly the focus works fine in full auto mode in live view.

Canon support has no idea why this would happen as in full auto mode there should be no setting that stops auto focus.

Can this be an artifact of ML?  I still have the same problem if I remove the card with ML on it.  Same problem with multiple lenses.

Restoring factory defaults made no difference.

Has this been seen before?

Thanks.

So I don't see where to get anything after 5D3123.  Where can I get the later versions that work with newer Canon FW updates?

Thanks.

OK, I got put on to the right answer in another forum.  It's the Canon live view face detection.  If face detection is selected for live view focusing the magnify function does not work.  Not sure how it got selected, I've never used face detection.  Apparently nothing to do with ML.

Thanks.

Well this problem is back, and I can't figure any way to fix it.  Booting with ML disabled doesn't fix it.  Removing the flash card entirely doesn't fix it.  How can this be anything other than a SW bug or a config setting somewhere?  The button still works since I can zoom on previously captured images.

Thanks.

It seems my problem may have been the autoexec.bin was not updated with the new version.  That seems to be the only thing I did different this time that made it work.  I did do the card format each time and tried both leaving and removing ML for the format.

Thanks.

That's exactly what I did.  I see the latest build is still 2014Apr09.50D109.

I'll do it again.

Hi,

I updated my 50D to 9Apr build and ML menu fonts are all corrupted.  Seems to work, I just can't read it because all the menu items are 'special' characters.

What is the last good build for 50D?

Thanks.

General Help Q&A / Which version of ML??
February 23, 2014, 08:14:32 AM
Hi,

Please forgive me if this is answered more consistently somewhere.  I searched the FAQ and forums and didn't find a definitive answer.  It may be there, and honest, I did search for it :-)

On this page   http://www.magiclantern.fm/install.html  it says:

"Installing Magic Lantern             This document is up-to-date.
This guide is only valid for version 2.3. We will NOT support beta versions and nightly builds. We strongly advise to use the official Magic Lantern version only. Those are well tested and reliable. "

But on this page    http://wiki.magiclantern.fm/install    it says:

"Magic Lantern v2.3 - Install Guide
This guide is only valid for version 2.3 (currently obsolete, but you need it for first install). After first install, we strongly recommed to upgrade to a recent nightly build (simply unzip the nightly files on the card). "

Since there hasn't been a stable release since 2012  I'm wondering what I should be using.  I don't want to deal with too many strange behaviors, of which I have had several in the 2.3 version.  So what is it?  Should I use nightly builds or stick with V2.3 until (if?) a new stable release appears?

I use a 50D and like to have HDR bracketing, time lapse and the basic video capability, but many other features I haven't gotten into yet.

Thanks very much to all the developers who have brought this software to us with it's great features!!

My video mode fps override was set to something other than off.  Setting it to off seems to have made it work properly.

Thanks.

When I go into live view I get a normal moving view for ~1/3sec, then the view freezes with a slight underexposure, then ~3sec later it updates with an over exposed image, then continues to update about once every 3 seconds with totally overexposed views.  Over then next 5-8 screen view updates the exposure gradually reduces back down.  The live view zoom buttons also do not work.  What's going on?  This live view function doesn't seem usable for anything to me.

I thought at one time this worked better than this.

If I boot with ML off live view works as normal for Canon std SW.

ML V 2.3.50D.109

Thanks.
