General Help Q&A / Re: Alternate shots on a 50D

Thanks. I've just been trying this and it works!..... but only up to 30 mins, then the camera shuts down.
I think the Sticky Half Shutter is needed to prevent this. It looks as if it's something I may have to live with.
But for detections up to 30 mins, you've certainly solved the problem, - thanks  :)

Although I'm having a few problems getting the screen to dim and turn off on my 50D ( see Q&A post ), I can still use ML. It's been set up outside, this morning for 4 hours without any overheating and I'm impressed with it!
Here's one of the shots using TRIGGER BY FRAME DIFF and TRIGGER LEVEL 8.

In PREFS - then POWERSAVE IN LIVE VIEW, press the Function button and from the sub menu I set the DIM DISPLAY to 5 sec. and the TURN OFF LCD and LV to 10 sec.
I've attached an image of the screen. The purple square is generated in ML.
And on the first shot it dims and turns of. The next shot stays as per this screen shot. Then the next shot dims and turns off and so on and so on .....................!

Hope you can help, Thanks  :)

I've had this on test, using a mains eliminator and as alternate shots leave the Live View screen on, I've been monitoring the temperature. Although the camera warms up slightly - and I've had it like this (indoors) for over 2 hours, I'm not concerned by it, as no extreme temperatures are involved.
I intend to use it outdoors anyway, so it probably won't even warm up.
I'll be trying it out tomorrow in Motion Detect mode - set to Frame Difference , as it seems so sensitive  :)

I'll answer my own question! as I've been playng with the set up.
If the pop up flash on the camera is enabled, then the sync cable will operate the studio flash, so I can live with that!

I have the 50D working in Motion Detect mode.
When I set the screen to Dim and Turn off, it does this only every other shot!
What am I doing wrong?

I now have the hang of it ( Motion Detection )!! It's quite brilliant ! But I'm trying to get it to trigger a studio flash via a sync cable.
It works OK with the onboard flash, but will not sync an external flash via a cable.
Am I expecting too much !!? ( this is with a 50D ).

O.K. Thanks. I think I'll have a go at installing it!

General Help Q&A / 50D single shot
« on: April 08, 2013, 02:45:28 PM »
Hi folks! I've only recently been made aware of ML. It seems too good to be true!
I've searched the forum to find an answer to my specific need, but can't find any previous replies. So here's my questions .........
Will an 8Gb card be OK. I have a 50D and only wish to use the Motion Sensor feature to take single shots. Is this possible.? If so, would it reset and continue to take a single shot each time it detects motion.?

Thanks  :)
