I'm able to record in crop mode for unlimited time (apart battery & card capacity) continuously. Please specify your request.
hi Walter I'm sorry I miss the forum since a bit, as well I miss playing with my camera (I'm more focused on audio todays as sound designer for films). I remember I couldn't record for long takes in crop mode there were stops after a while. But I had no problems in non-crop, continuous shooting was working great (I have a fast CF from sandisk), the only downside was moire/aliasing.
Which resolution can you record in crop mode continuous shooting? Which settings/raw module do you use? Thx

Hi, talking about raw video.... any hope for a new update with continuous shooting on crop mode?
#3
Hi, there is any post-processing technique you can share with me to fix colored aliasing?

Thx a lot and stay safe

Hi I have a fast enough sandisk cf (the faster model) and the latest nightly built installed on my canon 7d and I'm trying to record at non crop sensor (max resolution), but after one minute the recording stops automatically. So I turned off global draws and the recording time increased to one minute and 20 seconds.
I wish to record longer footage in raw I need it for a documentary I'm trying to shoot with no budget. Can you give me an advice about which option can I try to tweak other than "global draw" turned off please? Is it theoretically possible to obtains what I'm trying to reach? (did you reached continuous recording at default full sensor non crop resolution?)
Thx

Someone somewhere said that there was an indy film shot entirely with 3 yognuo led lights. I wish to see that movie but I don't remember anything (the title, the name of the director).

Another clue is that the movie was shot with magic lantern raw video 5D Mark 3. I remember I saw the trailer and the photography was really beautiful.

All I remember is a scene inside an appartament, without fast actions. I can remember the use of the strong red light, and maybe blue light. Very intense and vibrant colors from the lights (I suppose they used some colored gel). I can remember someone in a badroom maybe.

Thanks!

BM Ursa AA filter? I do not know, it looks to be annunced: http://www.mosaicengineering.com/products/vaf/bm/um.html

I own a vaf lilter from mosaic engeneering for 7D (bought few months ago) and it erase aliasing very well. the only downside is that manual focus will be a little bit harder than before. I'm happy I bought it but it's pricey. If I could find it second-hand I would get it.
I saw their web site is ok now. I see they did a new filter for BM Ursa, cool.

try to use wide angle lenses when shooting in "crop mode".
#14
for software solution you may try: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=15271.0
there is a filter (should be "reduce false colors").
the anti aliasing filter should ruin some colors so you can create a mask with the original video. in this way you can cover only the right parts of the image (the ones with aliasing).

Thanks a lot for reply, I did a comparison test with other apps. do you think is it possible to do something to make the cinema dng white balance the same as the MLVP preview in app please? this would be very super useful for me.

I'm not sure this test would be useful I just tested all that could be possible, I hope it may have a sense.

This test is done with mlrawviewer 1.4.3 https://bitbucket.org/baldand/mlrawviewer/downloads/MlRawViewer_1_4_3_win32.zip

Preview in app

Preview in premiere

It's default source settings (I didn't touch it)

This test is done with raw2cdng 1.7.9 http://www.phreekz.de/wordpress/2014/04/magiclantern-raw2cdng-1-5-0/

Preview in app

Preview in premiere

Its default source settings

I repeated the test with the lastest version of MLVP 2722

Preview in app

Preview in premiere

Its default source settings

here I changed the default cinema dng source settings of the MLVP file to match the source settings values of the other two app tested. I did not found similarity in colors.

MLVP was default 4.354 and I changed it to 4.188 to match the value of the raw2cdng 1.7.9 default settings

the original raw2cdng at 4.188

and now from MLVP (4.354) to match the source settings of mlrawviewer for this video at 5.027

the original mlrawviewer at 5.027

If you need it I will upload the original MLV of this test.

Thanks alot for your kindness and support!

hello AWPStar I wish to ask your help please. It seems that any video that I shoot in raw with my 7D and converted with MLVProducer have a dicrete amount of magenta cast. It's something related with the white balance.
The images show the mlv opened in MLVP and then the video converted in cinema dng and opened in premiere pro.

Thx!

thank you very much for your post. very informative I wish to try those wireless system by myself to gain a little bit more of awareness before to buy it but it's hard in my little town to find people who use them for cinema.
I saw the Saramonic UwMic9 over amazon do you know if this system is good enough please?

I'm really undecided. I work as sound designer for indipendent cinema and documentary projects. I'm some kind of student to be clear. I did already a movie, and various short movies, now I'm shooting a documentary (usually at budget 0). I use basically a shotgun mic with a boom pole when I take audio and I never had a budget to buy more expansive gear. But now I could probably buy a pair of wireless lavalier mics that I saw on amazon and some tech forum.

I wish to simply ask you if you used those kind of wireless mic equipment in your works or if you have seen someone using it, if you can tell me about those lavaliers if they played an important role in some project where you worked in. To get inspired.

thanks a lot!

@DeafEyeJedi it's Nightly.2016Nov25.7D203 but maybe could be the one modified by dfort because I have 10 and 12 bit in MLV Lite module. If I remember well 10 and 12 bit are not yet implemented in the official nightly built because in early stage of developement.

p.s. I did the 60fps test (the one with the tearing) with mlv_rec module. I repeated the test with similar settings at 48fps and I has no tearing. maybe 60fps is too much or it works good to you?  thx

p.s.

I has "force HDMI-VGA: on" in "/display/advanced settings" which is good for taking tearing under control
(for someone who wish to read more info can read this topic: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=13817.0)

Thanks a lot @DeafEyeJedi I did a quick test at 60fps I get a lot of tearing. Is this natural for anyone or I did something wrong in the settings?
