I've been following this thread and please forgive me if the answer is present somewhere but I was curious if this increase in dynamic range will be applicable to h264 videos.  If so, this development combined with the recent bitrate hack being investigated here http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=4124.0 is really exciting for 5d3 owners who want to shoot h264 for a project.

Feature Requests / Re: dual ISO H.264
November 23, 2013, 08:29:25 PM
I own a 5d mark 3 and atomos ninja 2 so I'm very curious about the potential of recording dual ISO video feed to the ninja and then processing.  Because it's uncompressed I wonder if we might have some really nice results.  Or is that impractical?

General Help Q&A / Re: Aspect ratio without RAW?
August 31, 2013, 10:23:23 PM
One possible work-around is you can use the overlay to put the black bars on the top and bottom of the screen when recording h264.  Using this cropmarks will help you shoot for the aspect ratio you desire and then in post you simply cut off the appropriate amount from the top and bottom.

Here's a raw video still processed using the latest cr2hdr!  I'd say it's looking pretty damn good, I wanted to try a particularly alias prone shot to see how well the new techniques were working.  I can't wait to see where this goes.

I also put up an unprocessed and processed DNG to check out if you'd like.

I love Dual ISO, it really can produce some stunning imagery!  I'm excited to test the newest processing method on raw video but I don't know if it's been adapted for video yet, is that further down the line?  Still, this is really awesome.

Today's update keeps freezing as soon as it reaches the "looking for hot pixels" point.  Am I the only one with this issue? It seems to happen regardless of which image I try.  Thanks again A1ex for all the awesome work, it's exciting to see it get better and better.

I'm sorry about that, that should have been obvious to me.  Here's the .cr2 file. https://www.dropbox.com/s/s2tew00wftvlef4/7O4C8804.CR2

I'm having an issue I would like help with please, I don't think I've seen this before on the forum and I couldn't find it with a search.

A number of my pictures will begin processing only to say "file doesn't look like dual ISO"

The images are definitely dual ISO so I'm not really sure where to start troubleshooting, any suggestions?  Thanks very much.

This is really exciting, full of great ideas and I'm really happy to see magic lantern raw looking more and more convenient and usable professionally.  The custom tagging and take number is a fantastic addition, I think something like this was really needed.  I'm wondering if it would be possible to have an option to name the .mlv files after their tag and take number.  It would be awesome if a file would come out looking like this: "Day 1 take 1.MLV" or "Night test take 5.MLV" or "Scene 3 setup 3 take 5.MLV"

On a set a script supervisor could be keeping track of good or bad takes and then you don't even have to process the takes you know were bad, those files could just be deleted and save precious time.  Really, this new format is great and I can't wait to see more, thanks so much everyone for your work.

Thanks, I'll definitely check my results in Darkenergy, I hadn't even thought about the "comparison between frames" quality that specifically video de-noisers have.  That's a good point.

I'm doing some tests but I'm curious if someone is already ahead of me.  I have darkenergy so I could use that to denoise the raw footage once it's rendered as a prores video etc or I could use the noise reduction available in adobe camera raw before transcoding the DNGs into the subsequent format (for me usually prores).  What does everyone think?

Following your workflow has been awesome, Rawanizer is really awesome and I hope you are able to just keep improving it.  Thanks so much!

Hey thanks, I appreciate it.  That's good to know.

I'm sorry in advance if this has been discussed, I was trying to find it on the forums but I couldn't.  I was trying to estimate (I own a 5D mk III) how long I could record raw at 1920 x 1080 on a 64 or 128gb CF card.  I thin that people here said the average rate was like 85- 89 megabytes per second.  I figured that's about 25 minutes on the 128gb card.  I just want to know if my estimate is correct or if I've messed up somehow and I'm way off, I've not been able to do any tests myself.  I'm looking to buy a cf card and how long you can record is a big factor in which one I choose.  Thanks for the help.

An idea struck me because I read that you cannot review what you've shot in raw (Makes sense as it's not a video, just raw stills).  I own a  Ninja 2 and for a while I figured that it may be redundant if you are recording raw but then I thought you could use the Ninja to monitor while you shoot raw and also record the HDMI signal so that you can playback what you got in raw.  I know the quality of the HDMI out would not be close to the quality of the raw footage but if you were recording a performance you could at least playback what you shot to see if it was a good take.  Another thing, the ninja 2 has an audio input which you could then use the Ninja footage + audio to sync audio to the raw footage.

tl;dr

When shooting raw you can use the Ninja recorder to
*Monitor what you shoot
*Playback different takes
*Record Audio
*Back up in case the RAW video has problems

Sorry, it just dawned on me the current build doesn't work with the clean HDMI firmware, does it?  Still, if it does eventually work does this accurate or is there a problem I didn't think of?

Sorry about my grammar, I'm really tired.

I'm pretty much a lamen, but it looks like you guys are figuring out how to retain the quality of RAW but save on space? This is such wonderful news.  So this means we may have longer record times and if the frames are a smaller size, fewer dropped frames?

Thanks to everyone involved, it's always exciting to see what people are achieving here.

General Help Q&A / Re: Changing bitrate for HDMI out
February 05, 2013, 08:42:46 PM
The update on canon's website says that in april the firmware update will make it so "When shooting video, HDMI Output makes possible the recording of high-definition uncompressed video data (YCbCr 4:2:2, 8 bit) "

So even with the update to uncompressed HDMI out the 5d mk3 will still be operating in 8bit.  I was wondering if it will be possible to increase that.

General Help Q&A / Changing bitrate for HDMI out
February 04, 2013, 06:17:57 PM
I've got what is hopefully a good question.  The 5D Mark III is getting uncompressed HDMI out in April with a firmware update and I intend on getting the atomos ninja 2 external recorder at that time.  I'm guessing that with subsequent updates the 5D mk III may be able to have it's bitrate changed.  The ninja 2 can handle up to 10-bit 4:2:2, so I'm wondering if anyone knows whether or not it will be feasible to get a 10 bit signal out of the camera through HDMI to the recorder?  I know this is hypothetical but I think that would be a really exciting development, thanks.
