Edit: I go here http://www.pel.hu/eoscard/ and it's stay for ever for enter in the web site...
Working fine for me.

I don't know if Pelican has already fixed the problem but the download is ok for me, tried right now.
#3
For me is highly unlikely that Canon will modify EOS Utility in order to download/install an alternative/not official firmware, but never say never.
#4
maybe because the 90% of users here are not developers nor contributors, the only people that you seems to consider as per your original post.
#5
no raw video yet, as per previous messages.

Hey dudes! Was gonna split this thread as it's all getting a bit all over the place in here but it's so all over the place it's gonna be a pain to split so for now I have started a new thread here which you can continue the discussion of getting started and shooting raw on your lovely 7D :)

This thread should now continue to be used for general 7D development discussion.

If you wish to find more info on installing then Pileot has started a nice little guide to help get you started here:

http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=7503.new#new

Any assistance in (politely) directing people to the new thread would be appreciated.

Cheers  8)
Hello noisyboy, both links point to your thread, the 2nd link should point to Pileot's one?

There's another user with a problem while using a CF adapter, after he moved to a CF card no problem at all so it seems that CF adapters are not a good choice when used with ML.

I disagree. Until there's a proper subset of ML that works perfectly (probably including the Raw video) and the devs decide to release the next version of ML for 7D (Alpha 3 or Beta 1) the thread should be kept to minimal. We're still talking about alpha 2 here, albeit with autorun now. It's confusing enough to hunt different modules etc across different threads. We don't need a new one to complicate that further.
I disagree too, as we're talking about all but the alpha 2, at least referring to the last 6/7 pages.
Anyway, no problem...

A1ex, can you please split this thread in order to close the discussion about alpha 2 and open a new, clean thread about the new configuration?
I still think that the new thread should be opened by Britom using the 1st post as repository for instructions and all the links we do need, updated every time something change... I think he deserve this.

I think that this treat should be update with the new version of ML for the 7D and maybe also putting the explanation of britom for better achievement.

What ML community think?
I think that this thread, as per his title, should be closed and a new one should be opened, now the topic is (almost) totally different than the original one.
I'd suggest that the new thread should be opened by Britom and then put sticky.

I have to send my 7d off to canon as it is refusing to talk to any of the batteries I have. quite a common fault apparently! annoyingly it stops me doing a firmware update  >:(
its out of warranty so I have to pay myself but I wonder if they will be able to tell its done some above and beyond photography?
Try to pull out the little round battery for at least one hour... just a try...

They have written that It will be nearly impossible. It is written. You can read. Then, they don't need to come here to tell "nothing new" "nothing new"....
It is not the same problem that ML on 7D... They can not access to the 2 DIGICs for the RAW stream. They have managed to "enter", to hack the 7D but the problem is not that.

Then, they have written that if it is to difficult, there won't be any update for the 7D. The ML 2.3a2 may be the last one.

But I hope too... I have a 7D.
"Nearly impossible" is not the same as "It's impossible".
They have written that's difficult and there're no reason not to believe them, only a fool can believe that's is simple to (re)write a firmware... again, "difficult" is not the same as 'it's impossible", so no reason to believe that the 2.3a2 could/would/will be the last one.

They don't write anything here, on this topic... no news....
That doesn't mean this:

... When I read what the developpers have said, I think we will never see an update of the ML2.3 α2....
The fact they don't write anything here doesn't mean that they aren't working to the code, no need to loose time writing something here until they'll have really something to say.
Maybe you forgot that months ago there was no chance to have ML working on the 7D and probably no one would have make a bet on it, but then they found the trick and now we're enjoying it.
You all know that they must understand how to use/program the dual processors system, after that they probably will be able to upgrade ML with a lot of new features.
Right now we must let them work on it without any kind of pressure, asking the very same questions a lot of times is not useful for anyone.

Since the beginning I noticed that the most of people are here to talk about video, very few of us talk about photographs and I wonder why: no interest about still images or what?

He is not the only one. Try using older EOSUtility versions like 2.10.x.

Ciao, Walter
Tests were did with 2.9 and 2.10 versions, if not even older, as 2.11 was not available at that time, no luck.
But we're off topic here.

I repeat, that is not correct, I did it a few times without any problem (from 2.x.x to 1.x.x).
This sound very strange, myself and all the people I know that tried many times to downgrade the 7d from 2.x to 1.x were unable to do so, there was a test that we did whitin a photography forum and all owners got the same result.
You're the very first one I hear that was able to do that...

Maybe there is something, but I did so many fw upgrade in the last three years so I should reach that limit but I didn't.
I can imagine for example a failed fw upgrade counter, but I don't believe if there is a limit for the normal fw upgrades.
Maybe, but only Canon knows for sure.
Anyway let's go ahead with Alpha 2 testing!  8)

That's not correct, you can downgrade with EOS Utility.
No, you can't, at least not changing the version.
If you've upgraded to 2.x you're no longer able to downgrade to 1.x, sure not with EOS Utility, checked it time ago.
You can only downgrade whitin the same version, for example you can downgrade from 2.0.3 to 2.0.1.
About the number of firmware upgrades I remember I've read on Magic Lantern site, months ago, that they did too many firmware upgrades on the 7D, used for test/development, and suddenly the camera refused to do other upgrades so maybe there's really a maximun number of firmware upgrades (probably higher than needed for standard users waiting only for official updates but not so higher for developers).
