Share Your Videos / 5D mk iii & Arri Alexa videos
April 12, 2014, 09:53:57 AM
Hi

i just wanted to share 2 videos i shot few weeks ago.
The footage comes from Arri Alexa XT (prores 422 -rec709 colorspace) and 5d mk iii mlv raw video converted in After Effects with DNxHD 185 mbits codec. The footage from DNxHD codec has  less detail in the blacks .I guess is the codec .
Most footage from 5d mk iii was shot with nikkor ais lenses

any comments are welcome

Sorry about the stupid question.
How do you activate card spanning mode ?

As far as i know ,the hdmi out of Canon eos cameras is 4-2-0 so there is no 4-2-2 .
There is no way to record raw video onto external video recorders yet.

Hi

For the singers shots i would not use wide lens. It's better to use short or tele lenses (85-200mm)

Hardware and Accessories / Re: RAW VIDEO ON SSD ?
May 14, 2013, 08:03:46 AM
what i suggested is something like the hard disk adapter for the sony pmw ex1. not a  wireless adapter.
the card is inserted into the slot and the cable is connected  to the hard disk.maybe the camera has to have a usb host capability

Hardware and Accessories / RAW VIDEO ON SSD ?
May 13, 2013, 06:53:07 PM
HELLO

THANKS TO ALL THE MAGIC LANTERN DEVELOPERS FOR THE RAW VIDEO CAPABILITY ON 5D MK III.

I WAS WONDERING IF IT IS POSSIBLE  TO BUILD AN ADAPTER ( CF CARD TO SERIAL ATA) IN ORDER TO USE AN SSD HARD DISK  INSTEAD OF COMPACT FLASH CARDS.THE DISK NEEDS EXTERNAL POWER BUT IT'S A MINOR ISSUE.
PERHAPS THE SIDE DOOR OF 5D MK III HAS TO BE REMOVED COMPLETELY
http://www.amazon.com/Bootable-Compact-Flash-Converter-Adapter/dp/B0030D3T16,

I JUST HAD THIS CARZY IDEA ,BUT 1 YEAR AGO NOBODY COULD BELIEVE THAT RAW VIDEO COULD BE  AFFORDABLE TO SO MANY PEOPLE !

Feature Requests / Re: Running two cameras in sync?

Using the two camera concept above just made me realize the perfect bypass for the size/time limitation, without a loss of frame or sound.

1) Is it possible to have Cam1 (master) synch Cam2 (slave) to all coding, frame rates, shutter, etc. ?
2) Make timecodes synched, filenames synched but add in an additional marker to denote the second camera.
3) Make the 2 camera switch to where camera1 is on and cam2 is off.  On the automatic switchover, have camera 1 continue to record for perhaps 2 or 3 additional seconds as Cam2 is coming online. On switchback, same occurs with Cam2 to Cam1
4) With timecodes synched on the videos and similar filenames, aligning in editor would be a breeze.

Hi
it would be cool if two or more cameras such as 5d mk iii could be synced through usb.i mean that one camera would be "master" and the other would be "slave".not only timecode, but all camera settings such as:white balance, iso setting, picture profile, shutter speed, etc
maybe the new EOS 6D with built in wi-fi is closer to this

General Help Q&A / Re: Audio bit rate
December 19, 2012, 07:54:11 AM
Hi
this is my first post in the forum.
24bit audio would be  usefull when recording speech in a "noisy" enviroment or in a "live" music stage.
hard disk recorders such as :(hyperdeck shuttle 2, ki pro mini , pix 240i) record 24bit/48kHz audio through the hdmi .i know that these recorders use higher bit rates than the codec used by canon.i have the 5d mkiii and i will buy one of these recorders as soon as the "clean hdmi" is enabled, but i wish i could "calibrate" the audio meters to 24bits audio because there will be different meter readings between 16bits and 24 bits
